So knowing that he has at least two good years left, I really hope he brings a first round pick in return.
Lol. A side of rice pilaf is more likely.

The Shanahan's really screwed this situation up, but I'm glad a good player and good guy gets to move on, and I'm glad we're getting something more than rice pilaf for him.

It's a shame it didn't work out. I would have been fun to have McNabb playing at a high level for us for a few years.

Nonetheless, I wonder if he is tempted to draw this out for a while just to see the Shanahans twist in the wind a bit...

Wish I could read his mind now - - and Mike Shanahan's too if the Vikes/McNabb negotiations extend out over a couple of days...
Somebody brought it up in the other thread that he was willing to buy his way out of Washington, so don't see why he'd do that. However, we could **** him just as badly. We could wait till the end of pre-season and then drop him.

And yeah, a 5 and a 7 for McNabb's contract is a bargain. It's not that friendly of a deal to the team that is acquiring it, unlike Haynesworth's. Which is why this hasn't gone through yet.
How much did Jacksonville give us to move up 6 spots in the first? A 2nd and what else? Maybe if we threw in our 3rd and Oakland's 4th. Either way all this trading of our players for picks will only give us more ammo in next year's draft, which is a good thing.

Just the two.

Even if we were able to move up from 10 to 7, we still couldn't position ourselves to get a quarterback unless he was falling, and we already saw the falling QB scenario play out with Gabbert, and that we passed on him because taking him would have been counterproductive to rebuilding. Even though the value and need were more than there at no. 10.

The insanity of this whole thing is that all McNabb received when he and Fletcher Smith totally gave up his freedom to choose where he finished his career was a $3.5 million signing bonus. I'm not sure I buy the "he's willing to buy his freedom" card. His agent just sold it at a bargain basement price.

Wait I said he was willing to buy his way out?

Anyhow, latest speculation has a conditional 3rd in 2013 coming to us, but I don't know if that's in addition to the 2012 picks, in addition to one of them, or instead of them

It was in an interview earlier this year.

For the record, it's not official that he's going to Minnesota. There are other options still in play (namely Miami, but I suppose there are other options as well) Minnesota is the favorite, and would seem to be the place for which he'd be most amenable to restructuring his contract.

If he was traded to the Vikings and knowing the contract issues they face with Bernard Berrian and Chad Greenway, would you want either of those guys?

If that's their line of thinking I'm digging that. And also add whatever we might get for Haynesworth.

As far as sources for the 5th and 7th that I'm hearing, I just got that from SS's post in the Skins free agent thread.
No one in their right mind is going to take all those mid to low round picks and move up in the first round to take one of the top QB's next year.

I don't understand Minnesota's front office. They're willing to part w/ draft picks for an old QB past his prime that's about to get cut? Why not wait til he's released? It's not like there's a large bidding war for McNabb's services.

Even if we threw enough of them in? As long as the value matched up, or even if we threw a player in to sweeten the deal, there's no reason it couldn't happen. Doubtful but with all the crazy moves that happen in the NFL is it not possible altogether? I'm not saying we'd give them a 5th and a 7th to move up in the first, but it would certainly be reasonable to think they could make up part of the pot.
