Re: "Jason Campbell struggles against the Steelers"

So lets take odds on when Chase Daniel becomes our Matt Ryan. I say 2:1 week 3.

How many more excuses can Zorn and Campbell come with for their poor performances on the field. Why can't Zorn just tell everyone like it is. Zorn, should say "I can't call plays" and Campbell should say "I can't quarter back". I'm starting to feel like others. Maybe we should gone with another QB. Because tonight was not on the offense line, but on Campbell himself.

Still, the only way JC gets love is if he wins games. Full stop. No point in trying to over-analyze, especially at this point.

On the plus side, the line looked very good, both on pass pro and run blocking, pretty much all night. Given that was the biggest worry going in, ya gotta feel a bit better about things.
very well said.

It's the kind of thing where if the defense follows the flow and doesn't go after the passer, there's no in play adjustment that can be made. You just abort and try again. If it's third down, you punt.
True, look at most of our offensive production from last year, a lot of it was from screen passes, and small stuff to the RB's to let them try and gain the yards. They should have known that stuff was coming.
This was a very high-caliber D that we faced. We drove down the field, JC stayed clean and Clinton ran well. Overall, I'm happy. I would have liked to see some more passes, but I'm happy. I think our D will keep us in most of our games though. We have a long way to go still, but I'm really liking what I see.

You sure you didn't watch last year's game instead? We won yesterday.

JC isnt doing much to show DS he was wrong in trying to trade him. You would think this guy would come out like gangbusters and try to make a statement. Look at the other good QB's like Manning and Rodgers, came out and lead their team to scores and called it a night. Yes its preseason. but you would still like to see some spark from this guy and have him show that he has improved.

Batch is also the Steelers #2 QB, and he was going up against our first team D. JC looked worse than any QB that took the field last night, but I guess if he's getting time to throw and all the WRs are healthy, we have to find other excuses for him (rain). The long balls were especially ugly. Batch converted back to back 3rd and longs against our first team D. The thought that went through my mind when I saw that - JC couldn't have done that. But alas, it's only pre-season.

Yep. Might not be all Campbell. Zorn may just be a sucky coach and play caller. That's what happens when the FO hires an unproven QBs coach to run the offense. He's got no resume that warrants getting the benefit of the doubt.

Zorn's not going to give JC even the slightest amount of criticism, because

A) Campbell is fragile, especially after the off-season he had and

B) If the team struggles this year, Zorn is gone.

Re: "Jason Campbell struggles against the Steelers"

i don't think Campbell was all that bad last night. with that out of the way, the days of making excuses for him is over. sooner or later, he just going to have to do it. those screen plays, against that caliber of defense, is just plain bad play calling. he did the right thing both times

Re: "Jason Campbell struggles against the Steelers"

I see alot excuses being made...bottom line JC has not looked good at all so far...O-line has been solid for him...zorn play calling is vanilla as its the preseason....but the bottom line is JC has not looked good so far...

The starters need to play 2 1/2 - 3 quarters next week.
