Tank season for a pick would be a horrible decision.. if you were a player and knew this was the plan would you risk injury or a year of your skill to play for a team that did this?? If skins do this I’m done ! they need to do whatever it takes to try and win! Now with that being said I would not reach for a QB in draft nor would I make a stupid trade .. I would cut sanchez bring in another vet like bridewater to compete with colt as starter and if a qb fell to you in draft and he was on par with the pick then take him!

The more I watch of Kyler Murray, the more I am impressed by him. He has a great pocket presence, he senses pressure, something that is underrated in Qb's these days.
You can see him run through his progressions and he has a great arm. Very accurate. He is smart QB on the field.
I don't give a fuck about his height. He is a football player.
I hope the other teams fixate on his height and hand size so he falls to us at 15. Rumors are the Giants and Raiders like Kyler. They pick ahead of us.
IF Kyler Murray is gone I would want either a killer Left Guard or a solid pass rushing OLB to complete our front 7.

Rumor out there now is the Steelers trade Brown to the Cards for Rosen and the Cards #2 which means they draft Murray

Let us use the term "rebuilding" instead of tanking. Spending what even a lower level veteran starter makes these days on a QB makes no sense considering the shape the rest of the offense is in and Alex Smith's contract. The O-line needs addressed, Petersen is 33 and who knows how long he will last, Guice is coming off a torn ACL. The receiving core is among the worst in the NFL. This is a team that finished up the year 1-6. Spending $10 mil a year on a QB isn't going to improve that a whole lot, not worth the risk to try to win 6 games.

DJ Swearinger and Brown on the same team? Wonder who acts out first?

Re: What’s your plan for the Quarterback position?

Been a while since I posted on here but this one intrigued me. Not least because virtually every post is ignoring the FA situation aside from QB.

For me, my handicap is that I don't see much college ball at all (NFL on Sky here in the UK and a few odd games here and there online. As such I can't comment on the guys coming out in this years draft, but from what I've seen if you build a team around a guy like Murray, you could replicate what Seattle did.

But we have to see how FA works out for us in other positions. Smith's contract is like the sword of Damocles hanging over the franchise, so we have limited wiggle room for FA. That means we may have to fill a lot of gaps through the draft this year, so can we afford a 1st round pick on a QB? If the right guy is still there at 15 I say yes, but if not, I agree with the idea of looking for a diamond, or at least a serviceable player lower down. If Smith does come back late next season/next year, and can play, we don't want a QB controversy, so we need a kid that may be better in 2-3 years than a day 1 starter; that's all dependent on Smith coming back and us not being better off cutting him or injury settling before his final year - anyone confirm what happens if we cut him after next season?

For me I'd see whether we think the OL and Guice can generate enough ground game to overcome a mediocre QB and draft lower if we can't get the right guy at 15. Get LB's and DB's to fill gaps on D, maybe a WR (if our current crop come back strong we only need to draft a true deep threat, else I'd draft 2 WR's to be sure), and for hells sake 2-3 OL hopefully including a LG and C with starter potential. With that I'd ride McCoy with the rookie as backup and then see how the whole situation pans out. We could get lucky with a rookie diamond in the rough and compete next year, McCoy could prove the doubters wrong or we tank and have a high pick for a QB next year. That approach worked eventually for the Browns didn't it?

Re: What’s your plan for the Quarterback position?

1. Colt

2. Fitz (can learn system til Colt goes down, he is smart and Gruden is a system coach) or,

3. Drafted rookie, if Smith and Gruden really like who is available when we pick. Can start when Colt goes down if he has made enough progress to pass Fitz on the depth chart.

Full proof don't screw up 2020 plan.

There has been talk of Rosen being dealt. I'd give up our first for him if the Cards take the midget.

This makes no sense. Ben may play 3 or 4 more years.

Per PFF... this is where they deserve to be picked

Murray top 5 pick
Haskins top 10 pick
Lock late first round
Jones 3rd round

Translation, Bruce will move up in the first for Jones.

Nobody knows how college QBs will transition to the NFL.

Exactly, for every Tom Brady picked in late rounds there is a Jim Druckenmiller taken in the first. Many GMs and coaches considered great at the draft have picked QBs high that have went bust.
