So, why was the thread started by Gabe1984 locked down immediately? The link pokes fun of Gibbs vocabulary. Its a legitimate thread, and anyone defending Gibbs could have posted, so why was it locked down in Chuck Woolery time? Where am I wrong here?
Because SS best judgement told him that it was going to create a clusterfudge of crap of a thread.

It's locked so we don't get a huge argument over it. The link is still there...

So if mod speculates and thinks a thread is going to create a debate that is already being discussed he or she can shut it down immediately? I was told if I started the "I hate Kool Aid Drinkers" thread, that it would not be shut down (see postings above). What's the difference?

Well for one thing you'd clearly be starting the "I Hate Kool Aid Drinkers" thread to incite, not necessarily to debate right? Particularly with that title.

However, I locked it (as I and Tripp have pointed out) to try to keep the site clean by minimizing the number of essentially duplicate threads.

Re: Warpath Myth vs. Reality

i post very rarely but the threads are getting ridiculouls. i have learned to only pabuty attention to who posts the threads. there are alot of post whores here but i really like taking a look at all opinions. i had a very bitter dispute with someone a while ago and they were banned for asking my address to kick my ass and that is out of like for a difference of opinion. i have also been on long enouph to know banned peeps are only out for being vulgar or atacking members. that's the only reason you will be kicked so if you are not vulgar or attacking fellow skins why does it affect you?

The thread poked fun at Gibbs for his vocabulary. Many threads debated whether or not Gibbs has been a good coach or made good personnel moves, but this one merely made fun of the man's press conferences, so why wasn't it unique?

I anticipated what it would inevitably segue into. It was a judgment call, but sometimes mods have to make judgement calls.

I'd like to think that I have more often than not made good judgement calls

The link is still there for all to see. With all the Gibbs stuff flying around, it's just not necessary to have another 100 posts on a new thread. I personally think it's a funny link, but not worth it's own thread, at least not this week. Any other week when the Gibbs subject matter around here isn't so volatile and my guess is the thread wouldn't have been closed. It's SS call to make, and it's the right one.

Well I reopened it. Quite honestly I'd be pleasantly surprised if it stays on topic, but I'll give it a shot.

Still think the assumption that I locked it because it's negative is pretty ignorant but whatever

I agree. Repetitive, not negative.

@paulskinsfan:

Just so you know, you would have CERTAINLY been banned for AT LEAST 2 weeks if you questioned the mods' decisions on that Tampa Bay board, like you have with the Gibbs Vocab thread. It could have even been a 3 month ban -- they hand 'em out like candy. Just the simple fact that you can have the discussion with the mods about that thread, and why it was locked, speaks volumes about their leniency and fairness. And, they even re-opened it! What does that tell you?

Re: Warpath Myth vs. Reality

This is a great skins site. Kudos to the mods for a fantastic job running it. There are fans as well as fanatics on here. I don't post on here often, and when I do post, I often disagree/argue with mods and fanatics alike. Love the kool aid vs anti kool aid perspectives and banter that goes on.

I initially didn't see the need for this "put things in perspective" thread, but it does serve a huge purpose. We're all at our cantankerous best after a loss, especially a loss in a season following a losing season, and especially in a season following a losing season that in turn followed a playoff season. No matter how much we regard/disregard individuals that play, coach, or manage the organization, we're all linked by our desire to see the Skins be great again.

Fuck the Tampa Bay Bucs site and the mods that run it and I resent the fact that The Warpath was ever mentioned in the same breath.

I agree with you Ghetto. Although Ive knocked heads many many times with SS and Matt, they have always allowed different voices to be heard as long as there is at least some rational thought behind the voices. I must admit, when the thread was reopened, and I saw the first few responses, I thought that SS was going to be right. It looked like it would just turn into a Gibbs debate again, and in fact there were anti and pro Gibbs posts. I was just about to PM SS as well as post here and ask SS to re-lock, and admit I was wrong. Luckily, several others saw the spirit of the thread, and I think its back on track. Im actually looking forward to the Gibbs press conference win or lose to get some more quotes. Of course if they win, Im outta here for 2 weeks per my bet with SS.

I did that because I felt ultra dissappointed and I didn't want my negativity and irrationality to compound the current ridiculous dichotomy between the kings of kool aid and the haterade heroes.

The break accomplished 2 things:

One, I gained perspective. In the two days since our loss, the following have, statistically speaking, happened- 3,000 people have died from cancer, 731,520 babies were born into this world and 14,000 deer have died at the hands of LadyBrave. Splitting our series with the Eagles isn't that bad.

The second thing it accomplished was to make me appreciate how much I enjoy discussing the redskins on this site. I waste an inordinate amount of time here. And generally enjoy every second. But when people start to talk less about the team and more about how worthless each other's viewpoints are, I feel like the experience is lessened.

Here's what I don't get concerning all of the bitching and moaning: Mods run the site. If they really wanted to unfairly censor those with differing points of view, they'd just ban you and that would be the end of it. Forget namecalling, we'd all just forget there ever was an Offis or a Paulskinsfan or whoever, because they'd cease to exist on this site. Consequently so would a lot of valuable discussion that makes this site so great.

I'm not trying to kiss anyone's ass or anything but I believe that by and large this group of mods does everything it can to maintain and improve the quality of fan interaction on this site. That's not to say that the Mods aren't human. If they care enough about the team to spend whatever ungodly amount of hours it takes to maintain this forum, then obviously they are going to get a little bit annoyed with 14 "Fire Gibbs" threads immediately after a loss. Especially when we have a winning record and at least a puncher's chance to make the playoffs. Believe it or not they probably roll their eyes to the same extent when there are 15 "We are the greatest team since Michael and the archangels took on the Egyptian Firstborns" threads.

What I'm getting at is, take a second to think before you post. Ask yourself- "is what I have to say going to add to the overall quality of the discussion going on right now?" "Am I just venting?" "What am I hoping to accomplish?" "Do I honestly believe what I'm posting or am i just so dissappointed right now that I'm trying to take it out on everone else?" If the answer to any of those is yes, then it's probably best to take a porn break. Come back when you're relaxed.

I have to admit, I am slanted towards taking a positive look at the Redskins if at all possible. (not the easiest when Westbrook runs through the middle of our D for 58 yards and the go ahead score) I'd rather talk about ways we can get better as opposed to ways we suck. If that's not you, that's cool. But I just have to question the fanhood of anyone experiencing schadenfreude over their own team losing just so they can go online and say "I told you so..."

Mods are great and obviously this site would be an absolute disaster without them but I think we can all do our part (especially the ones who've been around for awhile, lurkers and posters alike) to police ourselves. I suggest taking a short break, realizing what makes this site such a great place to waste the workday on and then come back refreshed.

Just a thought...
Perfectly stated, Burgandy.

Reading this post just made me realize that of all the time I spend online, and all the hobbies and interests I have and spend time on, this is the only online forum in which I participate.

I've tried others but just lost interest. The conversation wasn't stimulating or sufficient or the place was poorly run. I can honestly say that in a good 15+ years of watching and observing online forums, this is the only one to which I keep coming back.

That all may seem minor, but for me it's a real testament to how well this place is run. A good discussion forum is good because it's well run from the top down.

Yeah we all disagree from time to time, or on a regular basis, but how fun would this place be if everyone was agreeing and saying the same thing the whole time? I've learned more from arguing my point with people than I would by just having people nod and agree.

In short, I love this place, and I love all you guys. ::sniff::

(yes, I suppose I even love offiss and irish too)
