Chester and Porter released

FYI

This deserves it's own thread

Add $6 million in cap space... there will be opportunities to use this money

Re: Chester released

Most poorly executed breaking news thread in history, bro. Gotta include a link or who you're quoting.

Here rotoworld is reporting it.

Re: Chester released

I'm interested to hear more on this. It could be a sign that Jay likes what he's seeing from the other Gs and that Chester doesn't fit what they're doing now. It could also just be that Chester has some sort of ailment and the team just doesn't want to deal with it. Or it could be truly just cap motivated.

Could also mean that an extension for one of our big players (Trent, Kerrigan) is imminent.

Either way I take it as a good opportunity for the young Gs to step up and develop.

He didn't perform and was not an asset, but we're Redskins fans so the term terrible signing should be reserved for things that have destroyed our salary cap.

Haynesworth was a terrible signing. Porter was merely an unsuccessful one.

Re: Chester released

To be fair, Chester had a decent season or two. They were also playing in the wrong type of scheme, so decent early on was probably an aberration.

Yes, I am a fan of Chris Chester and what he did for us.

At the tail end of his career and contract, he just didnt fit our new scheme and seemed to lose his physical attributes.

Guard and running back seem like the easiest positions to find good production with a small cap hit. The ravens just draft guards mid-late, develop into probowl and use them for 4-6 years, then cut/let walk and allow their new mid round guard to take over, develop into probowl .. rinse wash repeat.

ben grubbs = marshal yanda = next man up
