Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release

I wouldn't rush to judgement concerning the man's character. Just because he blew up about his contract doesn't mean he's bad for the culture. Let him calm down and then see what happens.

Also, as a practical matter, if RR were to make an example out of someone and summarily fire him I sincerely doubt that it would be his best cornerback. Maybe someone who is on the taxi squad.

As for what Gibbs said about trading players who didn't want to be there. What would Gibbs have said if Russ Grimm had raised his hand? I'll tell you. He would have said "Put your hand down Grimm. You're not going anywhere". That is probably what RR will tell Dunbar.

Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release

Would be a tough loss, he is our CB1 and has been one of the best man guys over the last 2 years

Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release

Gibbs nearly traded Riggo and Williams so I wouldn’t say he was above moving anyone who wanted out.

I’d have concerns with paying Dunbar given his injury history. I’m guessing he’s getting the same vibe from the team.

He has leverage because he knows we need him, so we'll see what happens. I'd love Okudah but man I really want Chase

Yeah i dont think you can commit a Norman size deal for a guy who shows talent but can’t keep on the field. I would not be opposed to a modest per year deal, but committing 10+ million per year is a tough sell.

He’s above average but not great, Kyle Smith will find someone in the draft. Dunbar is always hurt, if he doesn’t want to be here, get rid of him.

I'm going to stop having favorite players. McLaurin is going to be my last favorite player.

Trade Dunbar and sign Bradberry. And draft a minimum of 1 CB and most likely 2.

Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release

If RR sits with Dunbar and they figure out a way for him to stay that makes them both happy I'm fine with it...
But hell for now it sure makes Dunbar looks stupid: because they don't know each other and he wants a new contract... he wants to be traded to a new team that he doesn't know either, before knowing for sure if the new regime here is ready to extend him or not...

Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release

Sucks but you gotta oblige him. Obviously Dunbar wants to be paid in case something like the Foster situation happens with him, and I'm guessing the Redskins don't want to commit too much money to a guy who has trouble staying on the field.

Nothing personal, just business. We only want people who want to be here.

Re: Dunbar demanding trade or release

No one is paying him top corner money when he's always in the cold tub. He's the best corner on a bad defense. I think Dunbar is a good player but he is not an elite player. He can be replaced. I'd draw a line in the sand, play or stay home.

Bradberry isn't as good as QD and he's certainly not a #1 Corner so we would still need to replace Dunny

yeah...so the danger is overpaying a much less Corner in Free Agency which IMO is way worse than giving Dunbar a bump in pay. Then you have an over paid bad to avg Corner...at least when Dunbar is on the field he makes the defense better.

Go to pro reference.com...his stats the last 2 years on the field are certainly legit. Profootball focus confirms his "ratings" vs others corners. Dunbar is a quality player.

I state this...Dunbar may have to go if he wants 10+ mill per year but paying Bradberry 10+ mill isn't the solution. Byron Jones price seems to be rising as well...which I would pass on too if it gets to Norman level. Maybe bringing a Vet, experience CB short term may be the better option.

Would Dunbar take a deal 8 Mil per - 3-4 year deal which is essentially a 2-3 year deal? I wouldn't be opposed to that for a quality starting CB.

I’d say talk to him and find out what he wants...a reasonable extension...ok. If he truly wants to leave then make it happen.

I’ll echo a concern that Sheehan did a couple weeks ago...Ron hasn’t spoke to TW. Has Ron spoke to Dunny, or will he now? Kinda hard to get a sense of team without talking to your better players, Trent and Dunbar. It’s early tho...SB was a week ago.
I'm with you - I hope Redskins will work it out with Dunbar. I wouldn't feel comfortable if we go into the season with Moreau and whoever else on our current roster as our #1 and #2 CB. Even if we let Dunbar go and sign a FA CB. This will hurt us.

I'd much rather keep Dunbar but if he doesn't want to be here, he's gotta go. We will need to replace him but we also need an upgrade at CB2. Bradberry can be that guy.

Assuming we draft Chase Young, gonna be hard to find a legit CB1 in the draft and the more elite FA's are gonna be expensive. Might have to hope for major internal improvements and draft a guy that can absolutely contribute right away. Secondary is a major concern right now.

Rivera and Smith need to knock it out of the park in that area this offseason.
