Yes, Reed is a great example of "What could have been". In the end he was injury prone and not dependable. He was great for the 4 or 5 games a year that you get him, but that is not enough to be a difference maker. I wonder what anyone would trade for him, if anything?

Thank goodness the FO signed Vernon Davis to a modest contract. At least he posts come gametime, and he's probably our best deep threat this season.

He is certainly a candidate to restructure and makes sense that he would to create some cap space to sign a #1 wr.

That's a good thing, he just wasn't right this season. Let him rest and recouperate. He'll be back next year. guaranteed

Reed played in 6 games and in 2 of those didn't even see 35% of the snaps. Solid season.

Time to get a Donnie Warren, block-first TE. There isn't a TE on the roster that can block, which is a HUGE liability in the run game. Asking Reed and Davis to block is like asking a pig to recite Shakespeare. As Cooley has said all year, our TE's avoid contact.

I'd want a TE that can do both. If you have a strictly run blocking TE you are basically giving a sign to the D that you plan to run. That's why prime TE's that can do both are so valuable.

I should have clarified, there is still a place for a receiving TE in 2 tight end sets. But as long as Jay doesn't utilize a FB in his offense, he needs a blocking TE to seal the edge. We don't have one of those on the current roster.

He'll be back to do what? Get hurt again? His body can't take the rigors of pro football.

Re: #86 Jordan Reed

Reed is worth bringing back just as long as there’s contingency plan. I like VD and Sprinkle but we should still look to add to the TE group in the draft.
