Re: Cap sheet update - 11/23
I think this is the only board that provides this type of information.
The first thing that jumps out at me is the [release fee] / [cap savings] ratio (if there is such a metric) of some aging veterans on defense, including: Shawn Springs 2.48m / 8.48 m Marcus Washington 2m / 6.5m Jason Taylor 0m / 8.5m Cornelius Griffin 2.5m / 6.1m Just spit-balling here but let's say that Taylor, Washington and Springs are cut. This means we open up about 23.5 of cap room, which you have to think they are gearing up for in what promises to be an incredibly strong free agent off-season that includes some young lineman like Julius Peppers, Albert Haynesworth, Will Smith and Tommie Harris. You have to think that they are going to be targeting at least one marquee free agent defensive lineman and possibly a linebacker and offensive lineman as well (Guard is a definite possibility with Kendall on the way out). |

Then again, with our front office we'll probably go after TO and Lee Evans.

And I give the Skins credit for these contracts. Looks like they timed them properly in terms of release fees. On the flip side it looks like we'll be stuck with Jansen ($3.4M Hit/$6.2M RelFee) for another year, although he could be a June 1 cut option. Other choices to consider: Rabach ($3.65M Hit/$1.3M RF) Daniels ($2.4M Hit/$100K RF) |

They will need a lot of cap space to sign Campbell, Rogers and possibly Hall if he behaves.

We invested a 2nd round pick for Jason Taylor. I am not Snyderatto's ego will allow them to cut him.

Rogers is locked in through 2011.

Re: Cap sheet update - 11/23
Taylor has to go and if Springs wants to stay he must restructure at terms more favorable to the team (and probably agree to play FS). I'll be very sad to see Washington and Grif go if it's their destiny. I think Washington still plays a big role in this defense - part of the reason we're struggling to stop the run now - he never avoids contact so offenses have to put at least one blocker on him. And we're still a better defense w/ Grif on the field but... we need to upgrade the d-line and still retain some of the guys. How likely is it we keep an aging horse and drop one of the younger guys?

Re: Cap sheet update - 11/23
2010, absent a new CBA agreement only, and even then, "locked in" gets subjected to a year of RFA and the poison pill agreements that happen there.
With that said, he's under contract through next year, so an extension will not be an issue.

Re: Cap sheet update - 11/23
I thought Griff was gone two seasons ago, but looks like he's done good enough to stick around. I'd be shocked if he made the roster next year.
I think Marcus is on the bubble too. He's never been quite the same since that elbow injury a couple of years ago. He's been solid, but nothing special. |

Re: Cap sheet update - 11/23
I think Griffin, Springs and Washington might all be given opportunities to renegotiate their contracts down.
They are all pretty solid veterans and bring something in terms of the locker room dynamic however I don't think any of them can be counted on for an entire season at this point in their careers. I think Daniels is finished simply due to physical reasons. I honestly wonder if at this point in his career he can rebound from a serious knee injury. |

also calling julius peppers young might be a bit of a stretch. I'd love haynesworth though, and, of course, campbell and hall (not big money). I'll have to look up the upcoming FA list to see what's available... pretty sure haynesworth won't be available though (new deal in ten or franchised). |

Imo Springs and MW are done here, Springs cant be counted on and MW has been constantly injured and less productive for 3 years now.

Re: Cap sheet update - 11/23
I would keep Springs one more year if he restructures and switches to Safety, Marcus Washington needs to be upgraded. Actually we need to draft 2 LB's a DE and some OL.
