LOL I saw it too. And it was good entertainment to listen as they tried to rationalize the Cousins pick.

I think it signals Rex' days are numbered. Obviously the team went BPA w/ this pick, which I can appreciate.

Cousins may be a decent player but Griffin is, strictly based on how much the Skins gave up for him, clearly THE guy that Shanahan wanted and should be afforded the chance to develop without another young drafted QB around. It's an inconsistent message to not only Griffin but to the team and the fans.

If Cousins is some sort of a Griffin injury hedge--well then Rex or some other veteran could have done that role. And we would have applied the pick towards a greater need.

If Shanahan really wanted another young Qb to develop--best to not waste a pick and get an undrafted free agent. That would have not only saved a pick but also not created any drama vis-a-vis Griffin.
The Giants had Kurt Warner be the backup. Hence, drafting a backup was not needed as much.

UDFA QBs are more than likely hopeless, with the a low ceiling in the case they don't bust.

The plan is obvious. Cousins is a "shadow" first round pick to be. Let him look pretty in preseason, and some QB-starved team would pay big assets to get him. That's the plan. That's far more than a sleeper pick at any other position would net.

And if Cousins has good character and a leader, then that further stablizes the locker room because you've got two QBs to set an example about preparation and putting in the work.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

How is it possible this could ever be considered a bad pick. Who gives a rats ass what message he's sending to the media/fan base? Its about competition and surrounding Griffin with some one who's book smarts and work ethic are as high (maybe higher?) than his. Cousins has got talent and can help push RG3 and his superior physical gifts to its limits. Cousins is a film junkie, I havent heard that about Griffin and it will rub off on him as they progress together. The media can scream controversy until its blue in the face, but this move keeps Griffin dedicated, and focused. A cerebal QB with high upside is exactly what the doctor recommended. Future draft picks five years from now, only makes this seem that much sweeter...

The biggest worry with a mobile quarterback like griffin is that he'll get hurt.

This is my favorite pick from days 2 and 3 of the draft because it means that if Griffin goes down, Rex or beck won't be going in, we can lose griffin and still have a chance. love this pick

Plus they might improve each other by pointing out what the other does not see.

Griffin graduated with a 3.67 GPA at Baylor. I doubt studying film will be much of a problem for him.

People point out that Griffin was in the media spotlight more then Luck. Well after this weekend it should be painfully obvious why he was. Griffin is extremely charismatic and well spoken, ie media savy. As one of the beat writers reported he had one interview after another and every one sounded different.

Luck meanwhile, despite being very smart and probably a very nice guy isn't exactly the best interview.

The media loves a sexy headline, and they're certainly trying their best to turn this into something it's not. I just laughed when ESPN said "Is RG3 being challenged already?"

I mean please.

Kirk being drafted means Rex's days are truly numbered as being even a #2 QB. I don't see Cousins as trade bait. The guy could have been a first rounder if a couple more teams were in dire straits at QB.

Draft review: Shanahan says he couldn't pass up Cousins

Apparently, there was a Shanaboner in the war room.

Rex and the now departed Beck suck monkey balls!!!!!! Cousins isn't RG III, but he would be a dependable backup, and could wins some games for us in the future if need be. Beck just sucks ass, who came from a BYU team that at the time had come down a notch or two in terms of being a national power. Cousins was a very solid QB for a very good Spartan team, which plays in one of the premier NCAA football conferences. This move was probably part of the plan, which means Rex is probably out in a year or two.

Well, he has been with even the "dirtiest" of QBs, like Beck and Grossman, so he knows his way around. :FIREdevil

Luck is the epitome of how appearances can deceive. Sounds stupid, looks ugly, but a damn fine athlete and a top quarterback.
