Re: Redskins 2011 Salary Cap Status

that's a TON of deadcap, but if 7mill is the biggest deal, that's not bad.

Some cap information...

Redskins have plenty of cap space after trading Albert Haynesworth, cutting veterans - The Insider - The Washington Post

Re: Redskins 2011 Salary Cap Status

Okay, I figured out the discrepancy. The WP Insider article isn't including the rookie cap yet, and they calculated the deadcap hits of those four released wrong.

Our numbers about the "start of day" cap total are in agreement.

So $17 million of free money is the number. That's after we sign all the rookies. But the WP is kind of right that we could sign $30 million in player salary, and then get in salary cap compliance later.

Re: Redskins 2011 Salary Cap Status

Okay, some of the $37 of deadcap we have accrued today is actually going on the books in 2012.

So we have more than $17 mil remaining in 2011 cap room, but some of that $37 mil is going to hurt us in 2012. So it's deceptive. If we spend to the limit, we'll be in cap hell next year. So basically, they're not spending to the limit. They're probably done in terms of big money.

Your a Redskins fan. Haven't you learned after all these years that we will never be in cap hell?

Are you referring to the Redskins being recognized in the past as being the Champions of the off season/Free Agency and of the cap but a failure on the field? Where it matters most.
This is not something I am really proud of or like to bring up.

Re: Redskins 2011 Salary Cap Status

I did a preliminary update to my cap sheets (8/3), should be up in the near future.

Right now I have 20 players with existing contracts prior to the lockout. For the rest I have assumed the minimum salary based on years of service.

I have our deadcap at $8.2M which includes only Haynesworth, Rabach, and Kemoeatu. According to this article, any deadcap for guys cut prior to March 2011 is wiped off the books. That means no deadcap for Portis, Carter, and Dockery. According to my numbers this saved us $20M in deadcap, but the article implies that the Jets were the big winners with $8M in savings, so I could be off.

salary cap :All Things Pats

I have factored in the Rule of 51. I have not allocated a rookie pool besides the min salaries mentioned above.

I have us at $54M in cap room, but considering we've made a bunch of signings since the lockout, the $34M number mentioned here seems to make sense:

I'll add more updates in the coming days.

As I mentioned in my post above, this is a preliminary update. Wanted to get the right names up there and clean up the sheet for 2011. More updates will be added on an ongoing basis.

The best way to get the latest status of our cap situation, is to check the posts and articles in this thread.
