Re: Thank You Kirk Cousins Thread

We're literally never moving on from Kirk Cousins.

I'm about to start a Shane Matthews thread.

The old qb either had a thin skin, or was in desparate need of outside approval (see his twitter post asking fans to help him decide where to go).

Note, he still hasn't actually signed with Minnesota, and insisted on being wined and dined last night like a diva.

Call me old fashioned but I don’t see what’s wrong with actually meeting your new employer and seeing where you’ll be working the next 3 years before you sign. Same for the Vikings actually getting to sit down with a guy they’re going to pay $84m to.

Granted it’s all a formality more than anything, but some would argue the Texans wish they had met with Osweiler before they signed him, they may have went in a different direction if they had.

I get that, and I don't think it's particularly egregious in fact we did it with Norman, and probably DJax. It counts towards being "wanted".

By the same token, you can't hammer - imo - the FO for not wining and dining a 4th round pick who eventually won the job because the vaunted draft pick became a bust.

Research what happened to Alex Smith in San Francisco if you don't know all the details. Alex Smith had about as bad a time as any highly drafted QB could have had, yet never uttered an unkind word and was the perfect teammate and team player. Alex Smith has very thick skin and is the exception to the rule. Unlike Alex I believe Kirk is either normal or a little thin skinned. I admire Alex, but hold no grudge against Kirk.

You kind of make my point. The NFL is a business, AS has every reason to feel slighted by his previous teams' FO, and didn't hold either hostage or play dumb about how the split ups went down. The old qb, not so much.

I heard a bit. It sounded like he was given a softball question to praise the OL and didn't. Seems like at the least he could have mentioned Trent Williams. C'est la guerre.

Re: Thank You Kirk Cousins Thread

It's time to turn the page on Cousins. But I'll say this. He got his guaranteed $. Now the pressure is really on to perform. The bar is NFC Championship for the Vikings. We'll see if Cousins is up for that challenge, and if he'll be able to handle things if he starts slowly.

Re: Thank You Kirk Cousins Thread

i watched the entire conference. Yes Kirk could have said more praise to his old team, but people have to remember that he was doing his first press conference as a Viking, so anyone expecting him to go on for a few minutes about how great we (The redskins) are, that's just silly. I do think he was classy with his goodbye tweet about his time in Washington, and thanked the organization.

I thought most of Cousins' answers were handled very well, and he was very politically correct.

One thing i took away that I find noteworthy; Kirk was asked directly to describe what it was like "getting here" (In Minnesota), and he said directly; "It's been a 2 1/2 year process for my agent and I". Whether he means it took 2 1/2 years for him to sign his first LTD as a starter, or if he meant it too 2 1/2 years to get out of Washington, we may never know.

I believe that it was the latter, i think this confirms the theory that some had here that he wanted out following the 2015 season when he was lowballed initially...
