Re: Mewelde Moore/Cedric Benson/Joseph Addai
Eh this is better than another Haynesworth thread or a stupid "tanking" thread.

If there isn't an agreement next week, I'm sure someone will come up with one of these.

RB is not a need.

Re: Mewelde Moore/Cedric Benson/Joseph Addai
Agreed. I was listening to Kevin Sheehan on ESPN 980 and I actually agreed with what he said about our offensive needs. He said that he didn't expect for the team to get a RB in FA. He also didn't think we would go for a big time WR, maybe Jacoby Jones.
I would rather have the team put their efforts on getting a guard (D. Joseph) and a RT if Brown is not signed.

Re: Mewelde Moore/Cedric Benson/Joseph Addai
This is the same mentality that I am hoping this organization gets away from. We have several young running backs that need to play for us to see if we have something. The elite teams in this league give the young guys and chance to play, and that is something that we haven't been doing for a number of years. We drafted some quality college guys and I honestly feel most of them can earn positions and play this year. Going back to the running back situation, I dont get where we need to bring in a veteran. Ryan Turain played really really well last year. Granted he has some injury concerns, but who knows he may be healty for the entire season and never have a problem again. We have to start letting these young guys go out and play instead of bringing in free agents all the time. This goes for the corner position too. We dont really need to pay Asugma(sp) when we have Carlos, who I think is a pretty good cover guy. This is what we have famously been known for for many years. Never taken care of our guys, bringing in FA that never pan out to be as good as the money we give them.

Re: Mewelde Moore/Cedric Benson/Joseph Addai
I just heard that they are planning on signing Joey Galloway when the lockout ends and moving him to running back. SUPER BOWL!

Re: Mewelde Moore/Cedric Benson/Joseph Addai
Thank you. I can't believe this thread went four pages before his name was mentioned. He's a perfect one-cut-and-go RB for Shanahan's system. I'm really high on him. I've seen James Davis' name mentioned a few times in this thread... I don't think he makes the team.

Re: Mewelde Moore/Cedric Benson/Joseph Addai
The running back position is the one position the field that REALLY doesn't get better with age.
Ryan Torain Keiland Williams Evan Royster Roy Helu James Davis Chad Simpson Andre Brown Shawnbrey McNeal Between ALL THOSE CHOICES, PLUS undrafted free agents, we should find one running back that's able to start. Quote:
"Breakaway" speed be damned, I'd settle for one running back that can stay healthy for sixteen games. |

Re: Mewelde Moore/Cedric Benson/Joseph Addai
No way are we going to pick up any FA RB this offseason. The emphasis is going to be good fits at perceived impact positions in our system. Cullen Jenkins will be signed because of how he can help the redskins defense work properly through his knowledge of the system and the physical tools he brings.
We signed Atogwe because FS was a huge hole in our D last year. Haslett seems to value the front 7 over Corners, and the front 7 is where the big money will be spent (Jenkins and maybe an ILB...Fletch is in his last year, and Rocky is gonezo), but we will be forced to sign some corners due to the lack of players/talent on our roster. I'm betting phillip buchanon is re-signed as well as possibly one more guy that isn't going to command a huge contract but isn't complete garbage. On offense, I doubt we will sign a new QB because I doubt they feel that a new QB will be able to execute their offense better than one that was on the roster last season (I'm betting Grossman will start). Our O-line needs a large talent upgrade. Shanny will go for guys that fit his system. I'd say the talent of targets here would be one (maybe two) average starter in the NFL (Probably Ryan Harris.) mixed in with guys that Shanny just believes will be able to execute his system. I bet we sign one WR to a lucrative(ish) contract, just to stay competitive this season. There is a big chance it will be Moss. But we can't sign two large contracts after drafting 3 WRs and having so many needs. |

Re: Mewelde Moore/Cedric Benson/Joseph Addai
NONE OF THE ABOVE.
We're deep at RB assuming the rookies play somewhere close to their potential or at least do not get hurt. Torain and Keiland Williams have proven themselves. Helu and Royster have some serious potential. There have been predictions that one of them could overtake Torain as starter for Week 1. Even James Davis as a 5th RB in Mike Shanahan's zone blocking scheme can produce. RB is not a position we need to waste time in FA on, especially on one of these old, broken-down players.

NO/NO/NO.
Royster, Helu, Torain, Keiland Williams is all I have to say.
