Should we have traded Patrick Ramsey?

If we know Patrick Ramsey is not going to be the future here, why didn't we trade him. How desperate where the Jets? Its Early in the season and they still have a shot only 4 weeks in. whats a comporable trade?

Re: Should we have traded Patrick Ramsey?

maybe because mark brunell hasn't shown he can complete a full season healthy, and joe gibbs doesn't want jason campbell to be the backup?

No we may need him at some point this season. What if we are 9 and 3 and Brunell goes down I don't think we want a rookie with no experence playing. Now if were 4 and 8 it would have benn a good idea because Campbell would come in so the coaches could get a look at him.

Ya keep Ramsey incase Brunell goes down. Campbell will hopefully be a great QB one day, but he's got a long way to go.

I like the idea of bringing along campbell slowly.

I think it will work out well for us.

I think we should've. When the offseason comes around teams will be looking to build through the draft and with our track record, teams interested in Ramsey will call our bluff as they have done. They will wait for his release or negotiate for a low draft pick. Campbell probably isn't getting alot of reps right now and who knows if Brunell will play every game here on out?

No, we are going to need him before this season is over. I've got a feeling that once he gets back behind center it will be hard to take him out again.

But for now, I hope that Mark and the offense continue to improve!

I think you are right. But, what will happen is brunell will win the super bowl for us, then ramsey will stay here for the last year of his contract and take over for brunell at some point next season (early) and he will go on to win the super bowl, then we'll franchise tag ramsey and get two first round picks for him and then in turn that will be the help that we will need to help campbell win the super bowl. When it is all said and done gibbs will have again won three super bowls with three more QB's to go down in history as the greatest coach ever!!!!

Re: Should we have traded Patrick Ramsey?

I like Ramsey too. I do believe he will be a solid QB in this league. However, as much as it pains me to say, it wont be with the Redskins. he is not "Gibbs guy" and never will be. If we dont trade him before week 6, then we get nothing for him. We should have probably taken the draft, 3rd round, and traded him. Now when the season is over, he is a free agent and we NOTHING! I think with our D, we could have gotton by with Campbell and maybe won some games. Maybe even enough to get to the playoffs. Gibbs offense, as we all have seen, doesn't seem to be very difficult. Very few audibles or changes at the line. Give to Portis, give to Portis, and give to Portis some more. Campbell showed in the preseason he is capable of making all the throws and looked very comfortable in the pocket. this is my opinion, but you know what everybody says about those.

Other than hopefully getting something in a trade, nothing. Trading or cutting a player has the same effect on the salary cap. In either case, any signing bonus is accelerated.

In support of Ramsey and given the recent QB situation in NY, I dont think we can just "give it to Portis" and win football games. Defenses can stop Portis if they know we are incapable of a 10 yard pass. Look at the first 54 minutes of the Cowboys game. I think it is well worth the money to have 2 QB's that are starter-quality and 1 star-potential QB develop. QB is the most important position on the team, and it is worth it to have that kind of depth.
