Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Basically, I think they already know that they're planning on upping their offer eventually, they're just trying to wait the 49ers out and watch them make a move at QB.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Yeah but do they value him as a top 5 QB? That's the Q

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
If a trade happens, it's going to happen soon, obviously. I would think in the next couple of weeks. If it hasn't happened by the start of free agency, I think the 49ers will take a quarterback in free agency, even if he's a one year stop gap.
I'm just thinking one of two things will happen. Cousins is either traded or he signs a long term deal. I just don't think he plays 2017 under the tag.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
That's really not the question because the contract inflation rate for NFL QB's is astronomical. The contracts of the top QB's would somehow need to be converted into today's NFL QB contract dollars to make a comparison of their contracts with Kirk's projected contract numbers.
In addition, the Skins bucked convention by not negotiating a long-term contract with Kirk before he proved himself over more than one season. I can hardly blame Skins management for that because they must have been appalled by the big deals signed by unproven QB's turned turds like Kaepernick and Osweiler. Nevertheless, they could have had Kirk at a more reasonable price if they had signed him to a long-term deal prior to last season. My primary point here is that the Skins have waited longer to sign Kirk to a long-term deal than others have done in the past and so, due to runaway inflation in the cost of NFL QB's, they necessarily opened themselves up to having to pay Kirk much more than they would have if they had taken the conventional approach. They had to know he would cost more this season and they must have decided that it was worth the cost of waiting to find out for certain whether or not Kirk was the right QB to lead this team into the future. If Kirk had signed a long-term contract last season, how reasonable would that deal look right now, a year from now, two years from now? |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
LOL!! So, I was trolling the 49ers' forum and I love the attitude:
"Sounds like the Redskins have screwed this up royally with Cousins. They're going to pay a fortune tagging him 2 years in a row, only to probably lose him next year in Free Agency. Either they trade him, or they lose him next year and only get a 3rd Rd comp pick in 2019. If their demands are bogus, no problem, just wait until next off-season to sign him. No reason to include the 2nd overall in this. Cousins and the 49ers have more leverage than the Redskins do. We can sweeten the pot slightly so they get more than the 3rd rd comp pick they would get in 2019, but not by much. They can take it or leave it. " It's interesting to read the different perspectives among other team's fans. The 49er fans really seem to want Kirk Cousins, and feel they're getting him whether it be this year or next year. AND, they feel they can get him for something just a bit more than a ham sandwich.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Yeah, they pretty much feel they can offer a ham sandwich this year and if the 'skins don't take it, they'll just take Cousins next year without giving anything up (besides money of course.) I'd say if the 'skins were truly open to trade, they should trade with the Patriots for Jimmy G and a couple 2nd round picks just to cool the jets on 49er fans. This, of course, if there was not going to be a long term contract in the works. Otherwise, if San Fran truly wants Cousins, make them pull the trigger this year.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
It wouldn't happen anyway. Honestly, I don't believe San Fran is as likely as people like to think either. Cousins would regress behind their offensive line.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Let me start by saying I like Kirk and I hope like hell we keep him. However, this is a good article addressing why the team might be hesitating.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
It's all speculation because Redskins ownership is not communicating with the media. If they are forced to do a trade which one would you want them to take?
Option 1: SF Redskins gets: #2 pick, #34 pick and Eric Reid SF gets: #17 pick and KC Option 2: Rams Redskins Get: Jared Goff, 2018 2nd round pick Rams get: KC Option 3 Jets Redskins get: #6, #38, Sheldon Richardson Jets Get: KC, #17, #49 Option 4: Browns Redskins Get #12, #33, #65 and Josh Gordon Browns Get: KC #235

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
That's interesting... Please tell me an offer that you think that the redskins could get.
