Re: U.S. Vacation Spots

DC has a lot of great museums covering various subjects, there are also a lot of historic sights to tour in the area. Driving in DC is a PITA, parking is scare and usually expensive but the Metro Rail system covers most of the DC area. It is under repair and should be up and running soon.

As for vacationing in Cali, it is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. I lived there for 50 years, ha,ha. For those that have never been the varied topography is what is the most amazing. I lived a couple years in Lake Arrowhead, over 5,000 feet in elevation, it was less than 10 miles from a couple ski resorts and many a late fall and winter snow stayed on the ground with iced over roads for weeks at a time. Go in a different direction 30 miles and you were in the high desert that could hit 110 degrees in summer time. A 70 mile trip another direction got you to Pacific Ocean beaches or the same distance could get you into the Los Angeles area if crowded big cities are your thing.

The downside to Cali is there are a lot of areas that are gang infested and have very high crime rates. A lot of areas of towns look like 3rd world countries. It is hard to travel any distance without encountering gang graffiti, poorly maintained roads, heavy traffic and illegal dumping sites.

Asheville NC will cover all your bases. Beers? It is beer city and awesome. Sports? You have mountain biking, rock climbing, white water rafting, hiking and in the winter local snow resorts and there is history. Tons of good music and food too. Personally I like Burlington Vermont too. Lots of sports to participate in and good beer and food.

I've been to Ashville. Went with my parents when they were thinking about moving there. It's an interesting place. Definitely a sweet location. Time flies though, that was like 10+ years ago. I liked Raleigh too. Went there on same trip.

Nashville is freaking awesome. If I move out of CA that's definitely one of the top 2 or 3 places I would think about moving to. I like Charleston, SC too.

I am from Chucktown. Used to be great now it is too crowded and too much traffic. To many Yankees from VA, DC, NJ and NY moving there. The hospitality we had is gone. oh well.

I went to Nashville for a couple of nights and my buddy got us all hangover treatments every morning. It actually worked.
