Re: Would Skins Have Taken Jones?

My personal opinion to answer the question asked...

Yes, if Haskins had not fallen into the Redskins lap, then the Redskins would have taken Daniel Jones, and I would have be totally fine with that.

I think the good thing is, we don't necessarily need to start Haskins this year. In fact, I believe if the 'skins are even decent with Keenum starting, then he might sit next year as well (although unlikely.) Maybe work him in for a play here and there, but as long as Snyder is willing to give Gruden a longer leash, we don't have to rush him into anything - which will give him every chance to succeed.

Then again, Gruden might be announcing he's the starting QB by training camp.

Re: Would Skins Have Taken Jones?

If Haskins was gone and Jones was there at 15, we most likely would have traded back. Gettleman panicked and screwed up. He wouldn't have had to deal with this, had he drafted Sam Darnold last year. But oh well.

Yes , it's been well known for a while the Allen and Snyder wanted Haskins and the other in the FO and Gruden wanted Jones , as did Denver.

Re: Would Skins Have Taken Jones?

Maybe the skins leaked they liked jones... there is a lot of poker being played for sure! I don’t believe we would have taken Jones at 15 .. maybe later .. and maybe we would have landed Rosen.. but I’m the end it worked out great!! I have a feeling that Keenum is going to be better than a lot of folks thought and he starts the season and plays well... It will be nice to have some stability at that position and Haskins can sit and learn !

Re: Would Skins Have Taken Jones?

This hit me the day after round 1 but I don't think I mentioned it in here yet. Eli is not going to help this poor fucker AT ALL.

He might even go out of his way to fuck him over and that makes it that much sweeter.

Re: Would Skins Have Taken Jones?

The Giants taking Jones as their future franchise QB means that we'll be facing Eli Manning for the next two years. Jones will be a draft bust and the Giants will admit to it when Manning keeps his QB spot, and while he keeps playing below average football. It's good to see another team in the NFC East blow their draft and get pummeled by the press for doing so.

Ummm, you do know Daniel Jones has a very close and personal relationship with Eli and Peyton Manning, right? He was also coached by the same guy who coached the Mannings.

Makes it even spicier. Eli is such a prick and he wants to keep his job.

Maybe I'm wrong but I can't see Eli doing anything that would help a competitor, friend or not, threaten his livelihood.

Exactly. He'll be with Jones this season and that's it. I can't see him sticking around as a backup and mentor to Jones.

Jones isn't good enough to win the job from Eli and Eli is not going to just give him the position. Now if the Giants say Jones will be the starter regardless of how they do in training camp, then Eli will help mentor him and then watch while he crashes and burns.

So you have two QB's that need to learn a new system.

The NFL teams generally put in the new QB and let him learn by doing. There's a difference between watching Eli Manning, who has won two SB, and seeing Colt McCoy or Keenum play.
