Free Agency News - McNair kicked out of team facility (4/3/06)

Titans | McNair booted from team facility
Mon, 3 Apr 2006 20:19:24 -0700

ESPNews reports the Tennessee Titans have asked QB Steve McNair to leave the Titans facilities.

Titans | More on McNair

Mon, 3 Apr 2006 20:19:42 -0700

Updating previous reports, ESPN.com reports Tennessee Titans QB Steve McNair was told by a team trainer that he would not be allowed to work out until his contract status was resolved, according to his agent James Cook. Cook said there was no warning to the team's position and added, "Steve was told that until he got his contract straightened out, he wasn't welcome at the facility. Heck, he's got his contract already straightened out and now he's trying to fulfill it by reporting for the offseason." Titans sources said Titans owner Bud Adams made the decision out of fear any offseason injury would make him liable for McNair's current contract. Titans head coach Jeff Fisher said, "Things got blown out of proportion. ... We'll get it straightened out."

Titans | McNair's days with team probably numbered
Mon, 3 Apr 2006 20:41:11 -0700

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans QB Steve McNair's days with the team are probably numbered after the team told him he was not welcome at Baptist Sports Park, where the team is working out. McNair's agent, James "Bus" Cook, said, "A month ago they say he needs to be there to get familiar with the young guys, and now they tell him to get out? I have never seen anything like that in my life. They can sugarcoat it any way they want to, but when you throw your starting quarterback off the property, an MVP, Pro Bowl guy who led them to the Super Bowl and one of the greatest players in the history of the team. To just to throw him out? After this, I don't think Steve would want to go back any more." The Titans are concerned about McNair getting injured while working out, which would make the team liable for his $9 million in base salary for 2006.

I really think this has more to do with his $23mill cap number this year and trying not to get stuck with it (mcnair does have a history of injuries). The agent is really overplaying the insult angle... the titans could afford to lose mcnair with volek in tow and a #3 pick, but i'm not so sure they're going to (it costs them a lot to cut or keep him right now, hence the need for a new contract).

Texans | Team could land Moulds by Tuesday
Mon, 3 Apr 2006 21:59:33 -0700

FOXSports.com reports the Houston Texans could land Buffalo Bills WR Eric Moulds by Tuesday, April 4. Mark Berman, of KRIV-TV, says Moulds arrived in Houston Monday, April 3, in anticipation of the Bills trading him to the Texans. Berman expects a deal to happen during the next 24 hours. Moulds is more than willing to join the Texans, saying, "It would be great. It's extremely important for all the guys to be here for the off-season conditioning (program). I would like to get with the team, get to know the new players if things go well. Hopefully we can get it done. Hopefully I can get started and just play football, what I have been doing the last 10 years."

Dolphins | R. Williams back in Florida
Mon, 3 Apr 2006 19:48:40 -0700

Armando Salguero and Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, report Miami Dolphins RB Ricky Williams returned to South Florida Monday, April 3. He arrived on request from Dolphins head coach Nick Saban. He will join the team's offseason program as he awaits his hearing with the league to be held Monday, April 10. "Nick wanted him to get back into the mix of the offseason program the last time we talked," agent Leigh Steinberg said. "That was last Tuesday. He was headed back to South Florida and I was headed out, but he just asked if Ricky would return." The Dolphins' offense isn't expected to change significantly in 2006 but new offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey is trying to become familiar with his players.

Saban is terrible with the media, but he seems to be thorough and really good at handling "needy" players and sticking up for his guys... I think Miami picked a winner.

NFL | Collins to retire?

Adam Schefter, of NFL.com, reports free agent QB Kerry Collins (Raiders) is seriously considering retirement, according to people close to him. The Baltimore Ravens was the only team that spoke with Collins about playing in 2005. However, the Ravens were not offering Collins enough money to make it worth his while.

that's surprising, but I guess 20 TDs with the skill players he had is underachieving, though he was working for norv. I wonder if he'd be a backup? He's got a weak arm at times... Randy made it blatantly obvious every time he went deep.

good price/performance signings on all counts. All are good backups/decent starter types.

Who wouldn't want an old, immoblile, turnover proned, washed up, overpriced QB? Especially a prolific offensive machine like the Ravens.

Broncos | Team intersted in Gillespie?
Mon, 3 Apr 2006 11:03:11 -0700

Brian Murphy, of the Star Courier, reports the Denver Broncos may have some interest in semi-pro OL Ralph Gillespie. He will get a shot at performing in front of several NFL scouts (and scouts from the Arena Football League and other leagues) Saturday, April 8, during the Casino Bowl, an All-Star game for semipro football players. Gillespie played half of a season at left guard for the Mid-State Steel semipro team in Peoria, Illinois. "I'm not expecting to be signed by anybody, but if somebody wants to offer me a trip to training camp or something like that, I'm not going to turn it down," Gillespie said. Gillespie is not sure if the rumors of Denver's interest are true, but he feels he can be a good fit for their offensive style of play.

Kinda funny to here someone be so honest. Them training camp paychecks are awfully nice when you're not making 400k a year . Anyone know if the Casino Bowl is televised?
