It makes me a little nervous he's playing, but I tend to think it wasn't really a concussion in the first place anyway.

So, let me make sure I am clear on your position. You don't feel comfortable that he is playing, although an independent doctor says it's ok, AND you don't really believe it was a concussion even though an independent doctor says it was.

Got it.

My dad treats doctors EXACTLY the same way, so I know where you are coming from. D*** med schools don't teach nobody nothing nohow.

Not trying to confuse the issue I promise. If RG3 suffered a concussion I really don't think he should play, but given he's not showing any of the signs it doesn't sound like it was a concussion to begin with. You hear the term mild concussion, but my doc said that was bologna i.e. if you have bruising/swelling to the brain it's a concussion and the dangers of another impact too soon are really high.

My question is to those of you who had/thought you had concussions, what were your symptoms. I don't remember the first one very well because I was eight or so. Just that I couldn't walk for a few days from dizziness and nauseau. The 2nd one at age 29 was several days of nauseau, fogginess and generally not feeling like my feet were under me. I guess what I'm getting at is with a real concussion you're not going to be able to do much. I think some people take a shot to the head and feel a little dazed, then call it a concussion. They're worlds apart.

Re: Week 6 Washington Redskins vs Minnesota Vikings Pregame Thread

just leave it to rgiii and don't push him to decide one way or the other.

looks to me like he'll be out there, and as long as he's okay with it (since, you know, he's the one that's going to live with it post football), i'm okay with it.

it's kind of a non-story as far as the "should he play" stuff... we don't have the results, we're not making the decisions, and i'd assume most of us aren't crunching concussion study data or getting medical degrees in our spare time.

I agree. I think we should just go ahead and put him on IR for the remainder of the year.

Your sarcasm was better than mine. Kudos.

I would see a new Doc. A simple google search shows there are multiple grades to concussions (and multiple ways to classify them) the least severe causing disorientation and few or quickly resolved post-concussive problems. The more severe causing serious post-concussive symptoms.

Doesn't look like you read my post, which addressed the risk of further trauma (as in shots to the head) after a concussion. What you raised is a whole nuther topic i.e. are the the long term effects different for severe vs "mild" concussions. Again, I can only repeat what the doc said. Brain swelling/bruising is a concussion, and even after two (real) concussions there's evidence of causality for deteriorating brain function later in life.

I have no idea why he would lie to me but you of course are free to believe what you like.

Then why play football? Running backs and line backers are basically in car crashes every play.

The thing about doctors is, they don't know everything. You'll find that some will give out bad advice or advice that is outdated. I work at a school of medicine so I can assure you on this. Hell, even my own doctor has given improper advice in terms of weight training vs cardio. My friend is a doctor and prescribes people to a 5 bite diet. I could go on and on... Also, this is why they normally send you to a specialist. Because its generally something they don't concentrate or continue educating on it.

Understand MD. 44ever?

LOL Season over after 5 games.... We win this week, we will most likely be playing for 1st in the NFCE next week..Yes, the season is over!!!!
I never said the season was over. But if you actually think the Skins are playing for 1st place , maybe you have the concussion...

Skins are going nowhere this season, maybe 2-3 years, maybe.
