Around the NFL - Week 12

You probably can pencil this guy in for DPOY again.

This is what I was talking about in the other thread. These are the game changers you pay (or even overpay) big money for. If you gave me the option of having him and McCoy as your starting QB for 26 mil (23+3) in cap figure or one Alex Smith for 23 million. It's a no brainer. Not even fucking remotely close. Why overpay for marginal talent? Teams need to stop overpaying for average, and set aside the big money for real game changers.

Re: Around the NFL - Week 12

The market for QBs set the pay rate. QB is the most important position on the field and there aren't that many good ones to go around. As for your man above a stud pass rusher is almost in the same class as an elite QB. They make the whole defense better. What Alex Smith was paid isn't even considered big money for a QB anymore.

I realize his pay isn't in the higher echelon of QB pay but it's close and it really shouldn't be. I would not pay it. Not when I can get about the same amount of production from a journey man or stop gap QB. Teams are finding out fast that overpaying QBs isn't the way to go. Texans, Jaguars, Bears to name a couple right off the back that have immediately regretted the contracts they signed. The market is set by bad owners and general managers. There should be a huge pay gap between an elite QB (or any other position) and an average one. Guys like Alex Smith should be paid what he was in KC. About 17mil/yr. which is something close to what Bortles is getting. Bortles shouldn't even be getting the average pay.

Add Khalil Mack and the Bears into this. They put a solid team around Mitch Trubisky and it's working out.

You just gotta make sure the guy you get is truly a game breaker.

I just read someone say Brock Osweiler was "Outstanding" in Denver.
Von Miller took them to the Superbowl that year.
Denver was smart to pay him.

That is all well in good but wouldn't Colt want starter $ when his contract is up? Eventually we would have to pay someone starter money.

We have him locked up till the 2020 season.
Hopefully a second year QB will be ready to start when that time comes.

He can void the 2nd year based on playing time.

Is that still part of his current deal though? All I can find is that applied to his last deal

Well that would be short term right? Eventually that rookie contract will come to the end then do we have another back up in waiting, draft another qb or sign that qb for continuity? What is being suggested seems like a short term fix and not viable long term.

Re: Around the NFL - Week 12

Couple of games with playoff implications for the Skins. Seattle (5-5) at Carolina (6-4). We own tie breaker over Carolina not sure about Seattle. GB (4-5-1) at Minnesota (5-4-1). We own tie breaker over GB, but that tie makes that irrelevant right now.
