Darrell Green was a great future hall-of-famer CB, but really he wasn't necessarily a "shut down" CB. I think we can get away without having Champ, but we need to have a great RB, and we also need to fill the gaps on the defensive line..and apparently now the LB position...

more than anything, Darrell was a true redskin. I read somewhere where he said he could have left the redskins and gone to a lot of other places for more money, but he had more money than he'd ever need in his life. what was important to him was loyalty...

That's what Chump lacks, he's a greedy SOB, who isn't loyal to the skins, so he can hit the road.

I freaking loved Green, I really hope Smoot become's the second coming of Green, it seems like he will be a true redskin, I guess we'll find out next offseason.

I don't know if anyone else has brought this up but it's been reported that the deal will go through even without Washington and Portis agreeing on a new deal. so for all we know we could be trading away a player we could get atleast a couple draft picks for and one of our own 3 draft picks for a player who may hold out. I know he's a good player but you know that if this deal goes through tommorrow(officially next week), we WILL trade our first round picks for several picks and even then maybe trading some of those picks for more picks. As much as I'd love to see Taylor in a skins uniform next, especially with as good of a player as he's looked to be, it's more than a 50% chance that we probably won't be picking in the top 15.

we can't afford to pay champ, but we can afford to pay a guy we consider to have more value than champ, and he's being traded because he's threating to sit out because he doesn't feel like honoring the agreement he signed 2 years ago, this deal has the potential to really blow up in our face's.

If Pat Bowlen can ask players to take pay cuts even while their agreement is currently in place then why shouldn't Portis ask to have his contract redone as well? Or is it only ok restructure a contract when it means a pay cut?

I don't think it will be any problem re-signing Portis. For every one who was upset about Davis leaving well now we've got Portis! Yeah giving up a 2nd round pick sort of sucks, but I'd much rather get Portis for Champ then some unproven commodity like a draft pick. Brunell/Ramsey, Portis, Coles, that's as good as any threesome in the NFC
