RI: Redskins Make A Big Hire

(This is gonna read like a print edition news story, cuz, well, it is. Pressed for time to get this in the first edition of the paper. Will blog more on it Tues and Wed, but I hear nothing but good things about Morocco Brown, and this could be someone groomed for even bigger things down the road. Okay, here's the story)

Re: RI: Redskins Make A Big Hire

Anyone named Morocco must be cool

This is my favorite part of it all

"The Redskins called a meeting and Mr. Snyder came to address the entire organization," Brown told WolfpackChicago.com . " They said there were two people doing an excellent job...Morocco and the janitor."

Re: RI: Redskins Make A Big Hire

wow. congrats to the Brown family. I went to Hampton U. when his brother Milan was playing baskeball for Howard. His mother was my Spanish teacher and I know his dad pretty well as well. His family has outstanding work ethic and character and he appears to have made a good name for himself with the Bears. My only concern would be he is pretty young for such a high ranking position with the skins. I wish him the best of luck in more ways than one now. Great hire Dan for giving him a chance.

Okay, so Scott Campbell is director of player personnel, and now Morocco Brown is director of pro personnel. So what's the huge difference? To me the titles suggest that Campbell's scope is all personnel issues including college players, while Morocco handles all personnel issues related to pros only. Is there really that big of a difference? Do all clubs have both of these positions, and if so, what is so different between the two? I would think you'd have a team of scouts who would thoroughly evaluate college players, then another guy(s) for pros. I don't get it.

You've pretty much got it. Many teams (though not all) have a similar structure in some way, shape, or form. But yeah it seems that Brown will oversee trades/free agency, in-season pickups/AFL/CFL/practice squad personnel while Campbell will be his boss and continue with overseeing the college scouting.

Morroco Brown........Wasn't that the name of a movie starring Richard Roundtree, Ron O'neal, Rudy Ray Moore, Pam Grier and Bernie Casey?

Re: RI: Redskins Make A Big Hire

Good to see they hired a young, local guy & that all the front office people are in place to get ready for camp & looking at vets around the nfl to sign for depth. Brown is a former LB & we need some depth there. Coincidence or not, I wouldn't be surprised if the first free agent we get this summer is a LB. There's a couple big names still unsigned I believe; spikes & Colvin to name a couple.

Re: RI: Redskins Make A Big Hire

I have long been a critic of Cerrato because I saw him as nothing more than Snyder's football fantasy yes man.

I am beginning to change my opinion. It appears to me that Cerrato is hiring (in Campbell and Brown) men who are young and highly regarded in the talent aquisition field. Further, it seems that several of the recent missteps (e.g. Lloyd & Arch) were coach driven and, as I understand it, were opposed by Cerrato. Further, this season demonstrated a shift in emphasis to the draft (C. Johnson excepted) and a deemphasis on trading away the future.

While it is only one year, I think the Brown hiring and promotion of Campbell over Riddick may be an indication that "slow but steady" wins the race on a consistent basis.

Snyder said that Gibbs taught him patience - Maybe he was on the level.

Bottom line - it appears that the Skins are looking for talent in the talent aquisition side of the business. That's a good thing.

Small world indeed. I went to Mount Saint Mary's or "Mount U" as we called it.
