Re: The Bad News Thread
Its been interesting to hear a lot of peoples perspective about the subject in general...most like me kinda asking why and what were the signs. I think his core group of friends feel a lot of guilt...and I think that's the wrong approach, looking for blame and trying to reason it...you will go crazy b4 you find an answer. Especially when he was close to family, financially doing ok...and generally a good dude, humble, no ego. Ive heard explanations of a lost sense of purpose, drinking/drugs, depressed, and the very Trump-like "weak minded" dropped by my dad of course. I think none of those can properly explain it...even though I think a lost sense of purpose is closest.
Sorry for your loss Chico. I think everybody knows somebody who has done it or attempted to, I've had 2 friends who successfully did it. Everybody has their method of dealing with it, personally I don't try to analyze why they did it, just hope they found the peace they seek. Moreso feel bad for the family they left behind, one of my buddies left behind a wife and two kids that were absolutely stunned by it. Looking for blame doesn't solve anything and I'm not sure trying to figure what you could've done better helps either because it's hard to answer that question. |
Ive never known anyone to commit suicide up until yesterday afternoon. Very brutal feeling of just unanswered questions...he was a close friend of my brother in law...who come to the pool parties, the kids b-day parties, we come out and grab a drink with friends, etc.
If you know someone who needs help don't be afraid to take that step, could save a life
WOW. Sorry to hear that. I can't imagine what his family is going through. |

Eff pancreatic cancer. A month ago, a coworker that I worked intertwined at the hip with was a normal healthy mid-60's guy with a year left until retirement. He died this morning after being diag'd two weeks ago. Worked 30+ years only to die before he reached the finish line.

on a side note, even with the stay at home order, hiking at maryland state parks (as long as you abide by CDC social distancing rules) is still allowed. Md Dept of Natural Resources - Stay at Home Guidance
Anyone engaging in outdoor activity needs to follow social distancing and other CDC guidelines and state regulations. The department website includes a guide to social distancing and safe outdoor activity. Some key guidelines include: Only individuals, immediate family members, and people who reside together should engage in outdoor activities — these groups should be limited to 10 people or fewer, and distance of at least six feet from others should be maintained. Extra soap or hand sanitizer should be packed for any activity. Anyone who is sick or has been sick the past two weeks should stay home. The department has been proactive in protecting public and employee health since Governor Hogan first declared a state of emergency on March 5, 2020. DNR has closed its offices and licensing centers and canceled public meetings and special events. State beaches, campgrounds, pavilions, playgrounds, and other facilities have been closed to prevent potential spread of the virus.
|

He said it so vague he is having trouble understanding the rule and said if no one complained he wouldn't bother us. I think they issued the same basic order in Md DC and VA on Monday |
Re: The Bad News Thread
Cops aren’t likely to bother any unless they have to. It’s not like there are road blocks everywhere

I just looked it up, you are correct. Strange it wasn't mentioned on the local news I watched last night. Cops stop people here for petty crap that most places let slide. For a rural sparsely populated area we have a lot of county sheriffs. Sometimes just a 15 mile round trip to the dump or Food Lion and I will see up to 4 of them. They actually have set up road blocks here to check inspection stickers, registration, driver's license, etc. I haven't seen one of those in a while, they are usually on weekends with nice weather. |

There still are kids that like playing the actual game instead of the video version of it. I don't see how anyone can expect an active kid to stay cooped up in an apartment or house all day long. I bet there are plenty of cooped up kids driving their parents nuts. |

My son is 12 he plays hockey and lacrosse; a normal week between the too he is at practice or a game 6 days a week. He loves it! the busy schedule helps with his sleep and his mild ADHD. Now that this has basically shut all this down he has his training at home but not nearly the same as going to the real thing and competing with his buddies. He is fairly miserable and in return making us miserable. One positive i don't miss the youth sport mama drama!!! =) |

Also, that is such a Boomer comment, today I see more kids involved in youth sports more then ever. Are all of them super athletic, no but they get out there and play. BOOMER SEES KID ON VIDEO GAME: "These kids now a days never play outside ever!" The only difference between kids today and of yesterdays is the video games exist if they exist back then you been playing them too instead of Marbles Go Fish and Old Maid. Kids schedules now a days are insane I don't know one parent that isn't running crazy. |

Since all media is biased one way or another I weight what I see with my own two eyes above what I read on news sites or see on the news. Of course I am a middle aged conservative white male, the most hated species in the USA. |

Wife and two daughters are all school teachers and know as fact the the only times some of their students get outside time is at school. 3) Wrong there were video games back then ...I know I bought "Pong" for my Dad and hooked it up to his "tube "TV. All my kids grew up on Nintendo and Mario and they are 39,36 and 32 respectively 4) Yes, you're right .Yet it was that way when my wife and I had our three kids and we both worked it's called sacrifice and you find ways to make it work for the best of the kids. |
