According to Sat Washington Post it's 6 million due Portis,in my opinion....he's traded on draft day for more picks,or to move up.
Some of you guys make it sound like Portis, Johnson, and Parker are washed up and done. We're talking about a group that's barely 30 years of age. One could argue that Johnson has the least wear and tear of the bunch. The point isn't which one will be great by himself, but the possibility of them being great together.

If we can get 1,800 yards combined out from this combo, it was well worth not drafting a big name running back this time around. As far as Parker goes, he's a true change of pace back for the Skins, and I'd take him over Rock or Betts any day of the week.

We are very quietly having a solid off season.
Agreed.

LJ + Willie > Betts + Rock

Portis is not washed up, he was having a decent year last year until the concussion and what not. He averaged 4.0 YPC last year. LJ showed promise with the Bengals and under Shanahan i believe he can be even more productive. Willie is the only true wild card for me as far as production goes, but he's better than Rock and with LJ and Clinton we don't need him to be a pro bowl runner.

I think the reason people expect this backfield to fail is because their expectations are too high. We don't need them to all be the pro-bowl runners they once were. Their past history is in a sense haunting them, and people would see them not all reaching 1000 yards a failure. People need to lower their expectations and realize that they are a backfield by commitee now, not three superstars.

You are right. I think there was a half a million workout bonus but the rest of his 10+ million cap number is guaranteed. (roughly 3 mill in SB and 6 million in salary)

His agent did a good job for him.

He still has some miles left,I think his price makes him expendable.

My point about the financial incentives was that Portis doesn't have stat related incentives. I don't know this for a fact, but all in all, this backfield looks very capable ASSUMING nfl caliber line play. I really want to see how BA/MS address the line. The backs will all prove themselves.

You are right. The only incentive he has here is a workout bonus... lol

I think MS/BA make him expendable, they have done a solid job RB wise.

That would be a bitter pill to swallow to owe him 6.4 million and then let him go to potentially face you later in the season.

Can you IR someone if they don't have a season ending injury? They did it with Brennan last year, right?

If we are paying him that much, I wouldn't want someone else to be able to pick him up.

I think you have to have a doctor say it is season ending, I don't know the intricacies but Brennan's injury got played up so that they could IR him.

I hope he does come back and has a big year, but if MS isn't seeing what he wants to see, then I imagine he will cut him quickly. He has nothing invested personally in any of the players yet. I am sure someone would pick him up if we let him go, but I doubt it would be anyone in our division, so not a huge problem for me if they do.

Imagine sending Portis back to Denver in a package for Marshall; since McDaniels is doing the whole power block/run game out there.

KC Joyner
Parker can still be productive
"The key to gauging a running back's production is to see how he does on plays where he receives good blocking. The study showed that top-tier running backs will post a good blocking YPA of 6 or more yards, average running backs will tally between 5-6 yards and subpar backs will fall below the five-yard mark. ... Parker also graded out well in this category by gaining 301 yards on the 51 carries where the Steelers' blockers won all of their POA blocks. That equates to a 5.9 yards per attempt total, which is more than adequate and indicates he would be a quality pickup if the Washington Redskins decide to go down the veteran player path one more time."
Who will trade for his $6 million+ guaranteed contract?

I 100% agree. One of these 3 will be shown the door after the last preseason game.

That really is the 6 million dollar question. Id love to package Portis with our 5th rounder for a 3rd round pick.

Re: Willie Parker a Skin

I also think they signed Johnson/Parker to replace Portis. If they cut him this year, then next year there will be no cap hit. I believe they will draft a RB in the 4-5th round. I expect several draft-week trades, even for mid-late round picks.
