Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
If they overrate Stafford it is pretty much the entire league that overrates him. At his age the starting point in trades appears to be a 1st and a 3rd. It is going to go up from there.
So now he's Barry Sanders level?
Anyway, I think people wildly overrate Stafford. Let someone else make the mistake. Back problems scare the hell out of me since I have them myself. I know they're not all the same of course, but I would pass on Stafford at the price that's being talked about.
You didn't read what I wrote. If you measure Staffords success by the Lions results, then you'd have to measure Sanders in the same way. Put either in a better organisation and they would breed a winning team. Yes we've been dysfunctional for ages, but this year has shown that with the right approach and Snyder keeping his hands off, we can contend. A QB of his level on this team and that's at least 3-4 more wins last season, let alone next year with more holes filled. Put it another way. Look around the NFC East. Possibly with the exception of Dak, would you take Stafford over any other QB in the division? I doubt you say no. |
Let those other teams piss away a high pick on an injury-prone 33 year old. With back problems no less.
That's just false. In Stafford's last 10 seasons, only one did he not play all 16 games. 2011 - 16 games 2012 - 16 games 2013 - 16 games 2014 - 16 games 2015 - 16 games 2016 - 16 games 2017 - 16 games 2018 - 16 games 2019 - 8 games 2020 - 16 games Look for yourself: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/StafMa00.htm And in the last 7 seasons, the most INTs he's thrown is 13. Any team could use a QB that durable and that efficient with the football. |
Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
I’m going to repeat myself for the benefit of simbosargos. Since 2011, no QB has more game winning drives than Stafford.
Matt Stafford is tied for 7th all time, with John Elway, for 4th quarter comebacks. |
Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
It's starting to look like WFT isn't an option for Stafford

Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
If we somehow land Stafford, I hope it isn't because we overpaid.
We have a crap ton of needs. Stafford would be excellent, but not after a bidding war for his services. |

Stafford has 38 in 12 years, Carr 24 in 7 years. In the last 3 years, Carr has 11, Stafford 7. Same with 4th quarter come-backs. Stafford 31 in 12 years, Carr 21 in 7 years. Both have displayed this ability, but somehow Carr has been overlooked. Yeah, I'd like to see us get Stafford, but Carr wouldn't be a bad get at all, especially considering the likely trade-cost difference. |

Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
With so many holes we are not in a position to overpay for Stafford.

This board is all over the place in one thread we are mourning the fact that our uber talented draft guru left after 3 of the best drafts in the NFL where he was only overruled on the QB. In another thread people argue we have so many holes we can't afford to overpay for Stafford. The truth is we are in a pretty damn good place. We have holes, but KS did a good job of finding players through the draft and the holes we have are manageable. Our cap, even with losing a QB early in his contract, is in the top 10 of the league, and we have a lot of young players to watch. We won't keep them all, but we should have a strong nucleus to watch and enjoy for years. Thank Goodness!! |
Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
Seems like the Rams and SF rumors may have been smoke to try and raise the bidding. Maybe one of them finalizes the trade but SF for sure could have had the deal reviewed and done if they were committed to an at any cost trade.
