oh yeah, we signed the best UDFA OT as well. it's not like we didn't do anything. we actually got a lot of bodies with what we had to work with.
A LOT of bodies. I don't know the official number, but don't we have somewhere around 15 offensive lineman? That's plenty. |

Yes, and several of them slated to be back-ups with starting experience. |
Re: Draft wrap-up 2013
we all know the whole point of zone blocking is that it let's you go cheap on the OL right? you take small faster guys that other teams pass over, giving you higher talent in lower rounds (than average) without needing to use high picks or big money on a ton of OL guys.
the 3-4 let's you shift the expense (picks and money) of your DE's onto your pass rushing OLBs instead (though they're harder to find, DEs make more per sack than OLBs in general, so 3-4 pass rushing OLBs end up at around what a 4-3 DEs would cost due to rarity). we've got the people for our systems now. our RT sucks, but everyone else is fine. last year we had some bad injuries on the pass rushing front, but we signed merling, tapp, and drafted a guy to help with that rotation (and a bunch of OL guys). we didn't have much in the way of money to sign guys, and we had more pressing issues in the draft. I don't think a 3rd round OT or 7th round OG would have helped us any. the OLB and rambo were picked WAY below value, so you can't swap those out. thomas was below value too, as was the TE we got (which is the only pick that really could have been spent differently. Maybe amerson wasn't the DB of choice, but all the good corners were going to be gone by our pick in round 3, so it was a now or never choice).
awesome post, says it all. I'm also betting Nixon ends up being a gem. can't wait for next year with an extra $30-40 million to play with. we could be dangerous. |

Nice break down and explanation why David Amerson is a good pick for Redskins. I actually feel better about him after reading the article.

Best thing to remember about Rambo, Thomas and Amerson is dont expect these guys to be probowlers when they step on the field. I imagine outside of QB, secondary is probably the hardest position to learn from college to NFL. If somehow they even start it would be a miracle because I dont think Hasslet or Shanny are going to put someone back there with veterans like Reed, Merriweather, Hall, and Wilson on the team. Experience > potential right now imo |
Re: Draft wrap-up 2013
^ Nice video, HailGreen. The first one they interviewed cracked me up the most. And then the Cowpoke's "fan" at 1:09. :laughing-

The redskins fan, other than the last gmen fan, was the smartest.
ANYONE is better than Madieu Williams. So true. Even a non existent player. |

You know how many other CBs coming out are great at watching film? A lot more than just Amerson. I'm still putting this guy down on the totem poll and waiting for him to impress me until otherwise. |
Re: Draft wrap-up 2013
I don't know if they are trying to turn a positive spin on this, I think they are just making the point that the majority of his deficiencies (i.e. his backpeddling) are nonissues given how we use our CBs. They're basically saying he is a really solid scheme match, and not necessarily the lockdown corner we were all hoping for. I thought it was a good article.

I agree. Also, a frequent knock against Amerson is that he gets beat by double moves. That is a fixable problem. |

Such a debbie downer, aren't you? I had same thought as mbedner did, we all wanted a shut down corner, but obviously Redskins coaches aren't looking for that kind of corner, they wanted a corner who can play the schemes and Amerson seem to be a good pick. The truth is we all cannot decide if Amerson is a good or bad pick now, all we can do is wait until end of the season then we can decide. Or few years later. |

True on all accounts. If you (or others here) haven't realized, I like to be negative as a prove me wrong mentality in ultimate hopes that the good outcome occurs; and hey if my negativity was right, well then I was right about something. There is no losing in this thought process for me. |
