Re: Washington Football Team Salary Cap Status 2021

This assume a 198.4M cap .. which would be a slight increase from this years 198.2M cap. Ive read articles there is now optimism the cap wont shrink that much (195M) ... certainly not the floor of 175M. They normally set the cap in December but I read they (owners and NFLPA) will decide in late February or March.

175M would unfairly cripple some teams but I would like to see the cap as low as possible bc I think that would benefit us.

I think it’s quite likely that, if the math said the cap needs to be something low like $175M, then the owners will come together and make a deal to borrow some from the future so the cap doesn’t have to sit at $175M and hurt so many teams.

It’s not in the best interests of the NFL to have 20 teams in a position where they have to cut productive veterans. They’ll strike a deal to work around that.

The thought of losing those draft picks scare me, even though it would be for a solid player. As long as we repeat as division champs next year, I would be okay with taking a tier II QB in FA and using our picks to build the base for seasons to come.

LT Villanueva 15M
LB David 14
CB Darby 10
WR K. Cole 6
LB KPL 2

45M right there .. without resigning Brandon Scherff. Of course it doesnt take into account of structuring contracts so theres a smaller hit in 2021 so those players are probably more like 38M in cap hit for 2021.

Would you be ok with paying Dak $35M?

That article predicts that we will sign Safety Anthony Harris, WR Corey Davis, QB Tyrod Taylor, and resign Darby and Scherff. I'd be all on board with that. Then get a Tackle with #19, LB / TE / CB in rounds 2-3.

I honestly dont know. Ive had difficulty figuring out who he is. Ive seen him throw guys open with anticipation and also just throw an inaccurate ball other times. Seems to read a defense well enough but not elite. Does he control safeties with his eyes? idk.

I think scrambling and extending plays is the next big "need" for a QB and I think RR values that skill. That is one trait I dont have to question about Dak, he has the ability to extend plays and keep his eyes down field. He has the ability to scramble for 5 yards on a busted 3rd and 4.

Hes a winner imo. A poor man Russell Wilson and thats a huge compliment.

Yeah id be on board with that as well.

I had Simmons or Harris on my list but then saw I was well beyond the 45M range I was going for. Our secondary played better than expected last year and with Collins, Curl, Everett and a low end FA coverage safety .. I dont think S is as big of a need at 14M cap hit vs signing Villanueva or David at the same price.
