Re: Where was the blocking today?
Fabini and Wade are just a disaster. I had some hope when Heyer came in for a play or two, but Wade was determined to suck and came back in the game. It was the o-line's worst game of the season.
They are. I was at the game and to watch it in person, I just couldn't see anywhere to run. I feel for CP. He's the one that catches the heat. No holes whatsoever. Injuries or not, you've got to do a better job that that. Our backups are not young, developing, talented players they are older castoff's and cuts that are hanging on. We have a severe lack of depth in alot of places but especially on our oline. |
If we don't have the players then there is not much anyone can do. That's on the front office. Wade, Fabini and Heyer are not full time starters and they all got manhandled yesterday. Kendall got pushed around too. It might get real ugly on Thurs. The coaches had better adjust and go to a max protection scheme. Yesterday it looked like we wre trying to get 4-5 guys out in the patterns.
To be fair they weren't intended to be. They were brought in as depth, not starters. Nobody could have predicted we would have had so many injuries up front. If anything it's amazing that they've held together as well as they have. |
Re: Where was the blocking today?
I think up front is where we might have seen the effects of the incredibly mentally draining week.
The OL looked out of gas from the start and the breakdowns in protection seemed to me to signal a lack of focus. We should have been able to pound it on them all day long.
I fully concur. MOre than any other unit, the O line needs to practice & look at film & get coaching to learn the other team's tendencies. They looked like they didn't have any idea where the blitzes were coming from. I would think that their study time this past week was seriously less than usual. The coaches probably didn't get to put together much of a game plan for them as well. NOt to mention, they couldn't blow anybody off the line to give cp some holes. |
Well I'll throw out what I've been laughed at for (by a few here, I'm keeping a list :) ) the past three years here.
What about moving Shawn Springs to safety...a la Rod Woodson.
That doens't sound all that far fetched...I believe it was even talked about by the coaching staff some wasn't it?... I think he'd make a great safety and would do excellent in deep coverage, which seems to be Doughty's biggest weak point... |

Now the next question is can we hang on to him?... I understand there was a little bit of bad blood between him and the FO over his refusal to renegotiate his contract. Any chance that the way the team stood by him with all he's been through this year with his dad etc. might have helped heal a few wounds? |
Re: Where was the blocking today?
Sorry but I think there's a good chance that Springs is gone after this year. His release fee would be under $5M and I think if we can swing it he'll be gone.

Well that's certainly a possibility. I hope he comes back because he's one of the best players we've had in years. BUt he needs to look out for himself and his father's situation first and foremost. And, from the Redskins perspective, it is a business. I sure would hate to lose him though. |

That's a distinct possibility, but don't you think it might leave us vulnerable? Rogers might not be back to 100% until the end of next season, Landry is still young, that would force Leigh Torrence into the nickel spot (barring offseason acquisitions at CB), and although it's hard to root against Doughty I'm not sure he'll cut it. |
Re: Where was the blocking today?
We have all of our draft picks next year, right? I think what we need to do is to build the OL and DL. those two areas seem to be exactly what we have lacked as far as depth in Gibbs second tenure. We need young, fast blockers, not just big bodies in front of the QB.
