Shanny isnt going to say anything negative about CP and scare off any potential takers. The Skins need to be done with this over-paid under performer and move on.
THIS ^^^^ No disrespect to anyone, but if we've learned anything from NFL coaches this year, it's that they lie and can't be trusted. Andy Reid: "No Question about it, KEVIN KOLB will be our QB, there is no controversy". Tom Cable: "Jason Campbell is the unquestioned starter". It's not like Shanahan is going to say; "Well, with the money that we guaranteed Portis, we basically had to play him, because he was best friends with the owner, and the owner told me under no uncertain terms that Portis would play no matter what. I'm kind of relieved now because the RB position has been held hostage for a number of years now. I'm hoping we can finally move on". Unless Portis agrees to a MASSSSIVE pay reduction, then there is no way he will be back. |

Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
I think he will be back next year in a limited role b/c Danny loves him .. and you know what, he has been 100% heart and effort in every play .. i personally love CP .. I know he had a rough few past seasons but he was our work horse for a couple nice playoff runs and winning streaks ... greatest RB blocker I have seen in my lifetime ... Swagga of a true "U" guy and there was something special about Moss, Portis, Taylor ... it's amazing to think what could have been when thinking of those 3 a few years ago ... hope ya heal up well CP ... YouTube - Clinton Portis first run as Redskins I thought my head was going to pop I was screaming so loud
Yep...one of my favorite Skins memories. It was the perfect start to a great Redskins career. I hope he can come back for one more year somehow...my favorite Redskin (only jersey I own right now). He was also one good game away from 10,000 career yards (77 yards away). I was really pulling for him to break Riggo's record this season. He played GREAT when he was able to, even in his last game. Amazing how RBs consistently hit that wall right around age 30. |

What you see is that it's not so much their age, as the total number of carries. When they hit a certain number of carries, it's all downhill from there. Earl Campbell was the only guy who was the exception on that chart, but you can see the other greats. Its why Ricky Williams is still so productive, because he hasnt hit that career number of carries. Unfortunatley, Portis hit that number of carries i believe 2 seasons ago, so what we saw is pretty much right on the money according to that chart. If somebody can find it for me, that would be great. It really is a great learning tool. |
Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
i also think there is a chance portis is wearing the B n G next year. None of the money on his contract next year is guaranteed so they will cut him, then hopefully sign him to a cheap/modest year by year contract.
he ran with purpose and looked better than years past this season. he took TC and MS seriously, his comments this year have been one of a guy who knows the big pay days are over. i just wonder if he just decides to hang them up vs going thru a rigorous offseason for 2-4 mil. not to piss on CPs corn flakes, but kiwanuka didnt see portis coming for that block. there are alot better examples of portis blowing big boys up when they see him stepping up to block. idk, i dont put much stock in blind side hits as much as i do when 2 players see each other coming then 1 gets blown up. thats always more impressive to me. |

It seems like he still believes in himself so I don't see him hanging them up As far as the Kiwanuka hit/block, it was the way CP timed it that made it amazing. I don't see any reason to wait for the guy to look you in the eye. Perfectly played IMO. HTTR! |

For comparison with other current HOF candidates (rush stats): Jerome Bettis: 13,662 yds, 71 TDs in 13 years Tiki Barber: 10,449 yds, 55 TDs in 10 years Curtis Martin: 14,101 yds, 90 TDs in 11 years Roger Craig: 8,189 yds, 56 TDs in 11 years Terrell Davis: 7,607 yds, 60 TDs in 7 years Marshall Faulk: 12,279 yds, 100 TDs in 12 years I believe Curtis Martin and Marshall Faulk SHOULD be the first in. And the man he was chasing for the Redskins rushing record, HOFer John Riggins (Skins + Jets stats): 11,352 yds, 104 TDs in 14 years. CP was not far behind in yards...with 5 fewer seasons. He'll definitely be in the HOF discussion. If Tiki Barber and Terrell Davis are...Portis will be. His stats are even better than Roger Craig, who many people feel should be in already. If Portis were able to play the 12 and 13 years some of these other players had...his numbers would likely be better. But of course, we have to look at the actual totals...not what "pace" he was on that never materialized. I really hope he's able to come back one more season to get the Skins rushing record and hit the 10,000-yard mark for his career. That will really boost his HOF chances. |
Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
I don't care if Kiwanuka was looking or not, still a nice block. Most backs simply don't sell out like that on chip blocks. CP goes head hunting every chance he gets, love him for that.

Of course, this was before the trip to IR...but with a full offseason to heal...he could come back for 600 more yards and the record. |

Yep...as great of a runner as he was/is...CP is an even better blocker. Probably the best non-lineman blocker in the NFL over the past decade. |

As long as he comes back, stays healthy, and works hard, there's no reason we need to seek an upgrade for next season. Sure his salary is a little high but we need to see what happens with the CBA before we do anything about that. |
Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
Come on guys Portis is a hard worker, and i commend him for that. But he has hit the wall age wise, and he has had alot of bad injuries. He cannot be counted on anymore to be an everydown, all season runner.
If the skins don't get a new running back, if nothing else to split carries with Portis, they will be fools. Portis went down AGAIN this year with a major injury, and we had no one behind him. We at least need to draft a RB...even if Portis comes back... |
Re: Portis Officially Done for Season-Placed on IR
I don't think anyone wants to bring him back as the full time feature back. He's clearly done in that regard. But as a 3rd down role player type though? I would take him.

I agree with this too. If he would agree to a reduced salary, then it is a match made in heaven. |
