No, he's ****ing points his finger at everywhere else but himself. He's a McNabb-lite in that regard. Now, Rex Grossman may not be a true leader(we really can't tell from our vantagepoint), but he at least takes care of his own business and doesn't rub guys the wrong way. Not to mention that Garrard folds against tough defenses like a paper pyramid.

If I were Cincy I would offer him a one year deal, just in case Dalton falls hard.
So was there some type of beef between Garrard and the team. Because that's a bit of an FU move to release him right before the start of the season.
Probably had something to do with performance and $$ according to Del Rio.
Quoting him: “I had met with him a couple of weeks ago and brought him in and said, ‘Hey, listen, you’re my guy. I need you to get it going.’ He was given every opportunity. He was somewhat apologetic that he wasn’t able to deliver.” shocker nontheless.

Re: Jaguars Release David Garrard

I'll say this: of all the quarterbacks who were available at any point during this offseason, Garrard is the best.

I don't see a specific fit here, other than the obvious part where he would be our best quarterback. But to be fair, we just made a difficult move in a direction away from that type of quarterback. And to be clear, by that type, I don't mean "black", I mean the specific style of passer (the Rob Johnson type) who gets the job done by holding the ball and relying on athleticism to avoid sacks and move the chains rather than beating a defense with a quick release or vertical passing game off of play action.

Garrard plays very much in the mold of McNabb and Campbell, guys who got absolutely victimized by an offensive line that could not win at the point of attack. He's really, really good at what he does, though. Some team will find a spot for him.

We've already got a QB controversy with two guys that have at least one full season of this system under their belts. Throw in a QB who's more talented than Beck or Rex but is lacking in experience in the system... Talk about a shit storm. No thank you.
maybe the guy was tired of getting obliterated?

I'd say so. Part of the reason that Blaine started that first preseason game was because David was dealing with back issues. I can't imagine getting sacked and hit and beat up for three games wouldn't get frustrating.

What really sucks is that Mercedes Lewis is my starting tight end in fantasy football and I have no idea who to replace him with.

That's balls.

Lewis could still be a good option. A QBs best friend is a big TE especially in the red zone.

Possibly, but I doubt he has much value as a quarterback to them considering they have Yo Gabba Gabbert waiting in the wings as their qb of the future. Unless of course they're sick of Gabbert already lol.

As I said before, this is more of a step towards moving the team to LA.

How so?

Jaguars lease with Jacksonville is going to make them moving a very tough move

I didn't know about the lease. I guess with the Tebow theory, they would need to bring in a coach that wants Tebow as his QB (McD?). Because I don't see Del Rio staying put unless they make the playoffs, which I doubt would happen with McKown or Gabbert.

Insurance if they don't get Tebow? They want two young QBs? They're not interested in Tebow as their everydown starting QB, but are interested in him anyway (both on and off the field)?

Kind of messed up how the Jaguars had Garrard attend a luncheon to help sell Jags tickets...and then released him immediately afterward. Guess he got free lunch at least

I think the Jags are headed for some serious dissarray this year and that, yes, Del Rio is out at the end. They remind me of Carolina's last season with J. Fox.

Six wins for them will be a major accomplishment.

Yeah, that's really low. This whole situation shows a serious lack of professionalism from the Jags FO.

They can say all they want about it being strictly a football choice, but how can this not be about money? Why wait until after cut day, just days before your first game? Bizarre.

Haha. I'd be pretty surprised if that happens. I think Urban will be the HC at Ohio State next fall.

VegasSkinsFan 09-07-2011 12:00 PM

Did I miss the part where this guy is a really good qb? I can think of at least 20 guys I would rather have. This isn't the colts dropping manning or the pats letting go of Brady. He'll it isn't even the browns getting rid of McCoy.

Does this have anthing to do with money and the new CBA rules??? The Cowboys kinda did Andre Gurode the same way and JJ said it was a money issue as well. Just currious if this is going to be commonplace from now on in the NFL.

It's tough to bring someone in this late. At this point they probably are better off with what they've got.

I just can't believe that they would do this to someone that's been their starter the past several years. Amazing.

Agree completely...

The only real shocker is that Plan B for the Jags is Josh McCown or maybe Luke McCown or maybe Cade McNown or maybe Bozo the Clown...

If that is Plan B, please keep Plan C a deep dark secret!
