A QB who's only manage to throw over 20 TDs in a season three times during his 13 year tenure. His max TDs thrown was 26. Keep trying.
Ha ... you said this: "...that went on to become anything worth a shit in the NFL?" Alex Smith is more successful than any QB the Skins have had in the past 25 years, Kirk Cousins included. That may be a low bar, but it certainly qualifies as "anything worth a shit in the NFL". You fail bro. Nice try though. |
Re: Dwayne Haskins
Like I've said, I was pretty meh on the Haskins pick, but I'm fine to be in a wait and see mode for him. I guess I'm not the genius QB scout some people here seem to be.
I'm fine with it since we didn't trade up nor did we do a gaffe like the Giants. |
Re: Dwayne Haskins
Also pretty much everyone is in shotgun coming out of college. There are really only a few offenses in college that don't run spread.
Which is why you see a shit ton of the QBs being terrible as fuck. They need to be sitting the bench for 2-3 years to adjust. |
Re: Dwayne Haskins
If we are lucky, Haskins doesn't see the field this year. That's the only reason I didn't want a QB picked. Because it means we don't have a stud that can help right away...but we did end up with a stud EDGE that can help right away. And we have our QB of the future.

Hopefully he'll sit to learn and adjust to being under center. We needed a QB and really there weren't any I fancied in this draft to begin with. Hell, I think the Cardinals made a bigger mistake with Murray. |

Who still needs a QB that won't address it with someone in rd 2 or 3 rather than trade? I can only see the Bengals, Lions, Broncos and Raiders looking for fresh talent/ready for the future backups, and they all passed in rd1 so I can't see them trading value picks for a QB that's a loose end on the Cards. Maybe one of them sees enough in him to risk it, but I reckon he could be gotten for a 3rd next year or maybe just a 4th, if he's not traded for by Sunday. |
I hope he's not the second coming of Heath Shuler or JaMarcus Russell.
I think the rookie contracts may have eliminated some of the Jamarcus Russell types from the NFL. As for my thoughts on Haskins I am fine with him. A few experts call him the best QB in the draft. Also the Redskins didn't trade up to get him. Another win to me is not trading for Rosen, he will turn out to be a dud. |
Re: Dwayne Haskins
When was the last time we had tow 1st round picks? LaVAr and Chris S. ?
I was so happy after that draft. I am happy today, been a long time since I have smiled about this team. |
Not like this, they were great this year. Paris Campbell and the other guy will go 2nd and 3rd round this year.
Dude you don't know football he is not going to be a brady or Manning or a Brees but he is Good with a extremely high ceiling and you can say that about a lot of good players that come out of high-profile programs that are loaded with potential other big-time players around them just because he doesn't move well in a pocket doesn't mean he's not a good quarterback Allen the bills quarterback doesn't move on the pocket Donald who was a very good quarterback with high ceiling potential doesn't move on the pocket either so you have to understand what you're looking at obviously you don't you like The flash and dash |
Re: Dwayne Haskins
Look I know we all are doubters of the QB position but haskins is for real and he's hungry. He wasn't happy Dan Jones went ahead. I like the chip on his shoulder

Re: Dwayne Haskins
I like the Haskins pick....he's a pure natural pocket passer......and he's already better than Keenum and McCoy.....the Redskins need to draft his backup in the middle rounds in order to get younger at the position.

Re: Dwayne Haskins
Trying to look at this completely objectively - I'm not entirely sold that Haskins will succeed and become a top 10/15 type QB in the NFL. Chico's points about his surrounding cast at OSU are fair. At the same time, dude knows when to put touch on the ball and when to gun it.
But if I had no questions about him then Haskins have been the first overall or 2nd overall pick. So that's why I like this - the price we paid makes it worth the shot. We didn't trade away multiple picks to get him. Instead we get a rookie QB on a rookie QB contract for four years (plus an option) who by all accounts has a decent chance to be a top 10 type QB. You have to take that shot because the rookie QB contract is the holy grail of team building. He gives us a chance to pay players at other spots and make a run in 2020-2022 before Haskins himself needs to be paid. It's hard to talk about the Redskins and a Super Bowl window without chuckling, but that's what the rookie QB contract gives you. Alex comes off the books after 2020 when we release him, and if Haskins looks legit, then we pay up at other spots and push the chips in for 2020-2022. That's what this pick gives you, it's worth taking the shot. |
Re: Dwayne Haskins
So nc skins who the hell do you like them because 85 to 90% of the college game is spread offense with spread quarterbacksthere are very few college quarterbacks that are under center more than 60 to 70% of the time now so to say you don't like spread quarterbacks it's really not a justifiable statement for not liking Haskins

Re: Dwayne Haskins
Pocket Passers win football games, I don't want a guy that runs around all the time. We had that before and he couldn't last a yr. Most here wanted Rosen, as did I but what's the true difference between the 2? Not much honestly.

Re: Dwayne Haskins
He looks bit hefty to me like Big Ben, chubby cheeks, if he ends up playing like Ben that would be great. He also only had one full solid year. I am somewhat skeptical until I see a solid sample size.
|
Re: Dwayne Haskins
He's the one I wanted, I only hoped he would be there at 15. I didn't actually believe it.

Re: Dwayne Haskins
Every single QB drafted has some bad plays. Haskins is no different from Jones, Murray or Lock. They all have negative plays.
I was just thinking the same thing. After Murray, this QB class didn't have any consensus #2. They all had some desirable/undesirable traits. Haskins has as good a shot as any of them to succeed. |
Re: Dwayne Haskins
I can't believe what I am reading. All the haters. I'm telling you guys, you got your guy. Said it before, Haskins is the best QB in this draft. Have any of you watch Ohio State games? Haskins has mobility, he can make throws on the run and out of the pocket. The guy passed for over 4000 yards and 50 TDs last year to only 8 interceptions.
The one who is screwed is Murray. What the hell does he have around him in AZ? Murray is from my home state and what I know is he has always been surrounded by superior talent. Especially on the offense line. His high school team, 3 of the 5 linemen all got full scholarships to Div 1 programs. At Okla, that offensive line is one of the best in the country. I feel bad for Murray, he is going to get killed in Arizona. Haskins will have a solid running game around him. Guice and AD. And that is a rookie QBs best friend. Next few years are going to wicked in the NFC East. Haskins, Jones, Wentz, Prescott. I am stoked. I applaud the pick of Haskins. |

It's just little things about him that rub me the wrong way, he's chunky, he seems very cocky, legit concerns about pocket presence, and like others said...I just think he had it pretty easy in that OSU offense and he's in for a very rude awakening here...but these are just my opinions which mean nothing. I hope I'm wrong and he turns out to be great. I did like the fact when asked if he would wear #7 he said he would have to ask Mr. Theismann first...and I'm sure Theismann will be fine with it but again, selfishly I hope he picks another number. |
Re: Dwayne Haskins
I think Sandtrap is probably right, we got the best QB in the draft, or at least a guy who's tied for best with Murray. The question is whether there are ANY QBs in this draft who are capable of joining the top 10 at the position. It might just be a weak class.
At the same time, you point to a lot of positives. Haskins has more mobility than he gets credit for. He has performed in crunch moments, I watched the PSU game where he brought them back from the dead on his back to win that game. And where 247 sees a guy who looks chunky, I see a guy who looks like Big Ben and may have the same ability to shake tacklers off to extend plays. His performance will be limited if we can't get him some weapons. Same with Alex, same with Colt, same with Case, same with anybody. But we're not going to solve that this year - we need talented WRs. Haskins gives you enough reasons to feel good about taking a shot without having to trade up. |

Love to see this board if we had passed on Haskins last night. If memory serves me correctly; just before the pick MEl K. had Haskins as his #1 BPA at that time in the draft. So we picked by Mel's opinion the BPA and filled one of our largest positions of need. Really can't see why you could be salty today as a Skins fan. |

no, think I posted it before they traded it. So 3rd round...but there is a lot of depth at WR. |

Re: Dwayne Haskins
The biggest thing I'm excited for is having youth at the QB position again. We haven't had that since RGIII.
We needed an identity on offense and hopefully Haskins can spark that. Our defense can be stout, and we have Guice and AP in the backfield to ease Haskins in. HTTR! P.S. Has anybody else noticed Dwayne has "Skins" in his name? HaSkins! |

Since he is not mobile he is going to have to improve his performance against the blitz to be successful at the NFL level. You know coordinators are going to blitz heavy if the tape shows that’s a weakness for him. |
Re: Dwayne Haskins
Let's just keep in mind who he's going to be throwing the ball to this season.
We should cut him A LOT of slack, throwing to perennial all-pros Doctson and Richardson. |

Sweat helped ease my pain over Haskins. I'm not a huge fan of his game but maybe we just lucked into a franchise QB, who knows. I'll support him until he proves otherwise. At the very least I'm happy we didn't trade up to get him.

My thinking is they roll Keenum out to start the year as he has starting experience. If they don’t cut Alex he will be a good sideline mentor. Best scenario, Haskins starts next year. Less exciting scenario, Keenum struggles and Haskins starts by week 6 or 8. Worst case scenario, “Haskins wins the starting job” week 1. |

Look, another report Colt had a setback in his recovery...I would move on from Colt and set the QB room with Alex Smith, Haskins and Keenam. Id attach Smith at the hip of Haskins with the plan of giving Keenam the first opportunity at the job. Then let the competition begin...let Jay make the call right before season, but we shouldn't rush it. |
