Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
I think it’s at least a first rounder. I think a 1 and a 3 is fair and gets it done.
The fact that Watson might be on the trade market helps from a supply/demand standpoint. But it’s possible two teams, like Indy and WFT, end up in a bidding war.
Watson is the #1 QB on some QB sites, depending on which stat you use. He’s #1 for yds this season - over 4800! The bidding will be insane for him. I’m starting to think we DON’T have the juice for that. Watson has the right of refusal and the WFT wasn’t on his top 2 list. Trading up into the top 3 QB draft positions will also cost a lot. I could see the possibility for big trades to go for the best QB but the history is that the loser teams keep their spot to get the QB that they want. Stafford lists around # 10 in the NFL. Part of that is just because he’s on “the Lions”. I have no doubt that Turner can get a lot more out of Stafford. I think the other big WFT FA hire will be for a big-name WR like: Galloway or Robinson. McLaurin, Galloway (possible FA pickup), Cam Sims, Harmon and a medium WR FA pickup. FA for the WFT: high-end WR and a medium WR pickup. I think Rivera will draft for the OL. Maybe more than just one pick. We need more talent and youth and depth in the OL. Rivera will be working to fix and upgrade the offense and a couple defensive problem areas: FA for WR(s) & TE &. LB; draft for OL(s) & CB & S. That’s GREAT news for a QB coming to the WFT. High draft picks and youth and talent are planned for the OL, bring in top and middle talented FA WR, a TE to supplement Thomas. That’s what they’ll tell Stanford’s agent. So why go for a QB who is in the top third of the passers in the NFL? Perhaps Rivera believes he can be IMPROVED with Turner’s offense. Definitely! Fix the WR, OL and TE. Stafford stats go up next season. Stafford gives us 5 seasons of top, clutch, QB play. We would INSTANTLY become a playoff team for the five years. Plus, if Stafford falters we have Heinicke as the backup! I think Stafford will have a decent bidding competition but the trading required to get Watson will be INSANE! I also think it will take more than a 1st and a third to get Stafford. Too much competition, for him. I’m changing my prediction - I think Stafford may take a First in 2021 AND perhaps a Second in either 2021 or 2022. I think the insane TRADE price for Watson will be TOO MUCH for the WFT. I don’t think the best draft picks will trade out - those teams want one of the best QB draft picks. That leaves us drafting the fifth or even sixth QB at 19. So I think that Stafford makes the MOST SENSE for the WFT. I think the team will go for him. It just depends on what the other teams, who want Stafford, will bid for him. Probably right, 1st and THIRD, would be what he costs. NORMALLY. But I think the bidding will bring him up higher than that. Two 1st round picks to seal the deal. Maybe I’m overthinking this but still think the bidding will go higher!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I am so curious to see what the end price ends up being.
Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Exactly. The price is what makes this difficult. You easily go get Stafford IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT. You easily avoid Stafford, if the price is wrong. I wouldn't be upset if the Colts found another QB somewhere. They seem to be in the best position with their cap to compete with us for him. |
Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
I'm torn.
As the VP of Global Operations of Heinickeee's Fan Club I've been advocating for a low key vet, to bring in for a legit starting QB competition. But I've always thought Stafford is one of the most underrated players in the league, so if the price is right I wouldn't be opposed to it. Envoyé de mon SM-J320FN en utilisant Tapatalk |

If we get into a bidding war - hard pass. This team is not a qb away from contending, it's a qb, wr, 2nd TE, LB, and maybe a safety (if they want to do better than Jeremy Reaves at FS) away from contention. |

Yeah, but you can find all that in one offseason IMO. |
Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
These 2 teams are going to treat this like a Ufa would. Neither team is going to want to budge because it would set the mark for the other. The lions and Texans hold all the cards, I think. I'm excited to see how this all plays out, honestly. I want a qb for us, obviously...but the unbiased fan of sports side of me is incredibly interested to see how this all plays out across the league. Worst case scenario, we keep all our picks, (hopefully) have a good draft and improve other positions. See what Allen Allen Heineken have and maybe get a rookie playing behind someone who has been in the system.
Speaking of system....I'm not too familiar, so pardon the ignorance, but would Stafford fit our system? I think he's the choice Ron will make. Watson is a long shot, and will likely require more than we should part with...as well as him wanting to leave a terrible front office situation....I'm sure he doesn't want to come here with our history of bullshit. Wouldnt make any sense. And Matt ryan....just....no. So Stafford seems like the de facto choice. I wouldn't mind having him if the price is right, and makes sense for both teams...no kings ransom, though. Please don't reach |

Totally is. But others are right too ... we still need a lot to fill out our roster. I know I have read the list (probably several times in various places) of true free agent QB's ... is there any like Stafford on that list? I know it's a "have your cake and eat it to" kinda deal, but it'd be great to have a QB WITHOUT giving up draft picks. |

I say we offer a second and an autographed Riggins jersey.
I know that would be enough for me.... |
No that’s too much. I agree
that was all i was saying. i want a legit qb on our roster, but i dont want to give up the farm to get them. we have a lot of holes to fill (phrasing). so if we dont get "the guy" right now, i think the team can still benefit filling other areas of need. id love to see stafford on the squad next year, but i also want to see other areas improved if detroit demands too much.....which they very well may. regardless, though...its going to be an interesting off season (league wide), i think. |
Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
Another candidate for the Stafford Derby, the Saints if Brees does not return. They would probably be very attractive to Stafford because the Saints could literally be a championship caliber team in search of a QB.

Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
Is it ok if I secretly hope that A-Rod is still pissed about the Packers drafting Jordan Love enough for him to retire, then we lose the bidding war for Stafford and plan on going into the season with Heinicke as QB1, then after the draft is over Rodgers gets the itch to play again and pulls a Favre to get out of his deal and signs with us as a free agent? I can still dream that right?

Ok, let me ask, we won 7 games this year with basically garbage at QB, Stafford would probably take 3 of those close losses (Giants x2, just about any of the Haskins performances) and potentially make them wins, which would get us to 10 wins. Do you think a WR, TE, LB, and S could be found in the draft and FA?? If it ends up being a 1st a 3rd and like Landon Collins or something would you be in on that?? |

Look who is in the superbowl this year. That said a 1 and 3 this year possibly a conditional next year isn't giving up the farm. We have 2 3s i believe, this year's first is almost certainly going for some qb somewhere, and our cap room isn't restrictive. Get a WR in FA, qb in Stafford and extend him, and use the 2nd round for the best lb on the board and then fill the remaining slots bpa. That team likely wins the division convincingly next season. I'm just saying that you can't get all gaga about winning the division this year, and somehow that makes this team soooo close. You have to look at the circumstances that played into this team winning the division. Chances are they won't be as fortunate next year with their opponents. I've said that a 1 and 3 is my ceiling for Stafford. I'm not interested in giving up more than that. |

But if the price was in the same neighborhood as RG3's price - the answer is no. We can't pull a Saints and mortgage the future to win now - look at how screwed they are for next year minimum with no qb and 100 mil over the cap. Yes we can fix the holes this offseason but it's not guaranteed. Also LOL at Landon Collins and any of you thinking he's worth something in a trade because he hasn't exactly been all-pro worthy since signing with us. Also my faith in Rivera's plan will go down if his solution is throwing big money out in FA. |

A first, and a 3rd for Stafford seems fine enough for me seeing that I dont see a QB available at 19 that is better than him and will come in immediately and produce at his level. |

This article sums up how I feel about the Stafford sweepstakes (and Watson for that matter). I'm torn, because I'm not sure it's a great idea to give away assets when there are still so many needs. Especially if you can get a quality QB in free agency (I still think that is the way to go). I guess I would do a first and third if that will get it done, and would still allow them to make some moves in free agency, sign Scherff, etc. But I'm not ok with throwing in any players, and I'm not ok with giving away any more draft picks. |

The names I’ve seen are pretty blah unless a surprise or two happens. That’s why I think they may do a trade even if it might me too much (hopefully not too much), strike while you can because of FA is a bust you’re stuck with Allen and Heinicke, which I consider less than ideal. |

I'ma get the F out then if go big means giving away more than #19 and #74. You can have a Matthew Stafford in the building, but if you don't have enough pieces around him, it won't matter.
Just sayin - Jimmy G was 5 minutes away from winning the SB last year, because he had a SB caliber cast around him. I'm not suggesting they go get him, but in my opinion, they shouldn't go big at the expense of the rest of the roster. |
