It came from JP Finlay. I'd be more inclined to believe him. I doubt he'd put that out there if he didn't have a reliable source.

A Carson Wentz trade to the WFT wouldn't make much sense for either team.
Well.. Eagles traded McNabb to us and Eagle easily benefitted from it. Perhaps, this is a second round?
Yeah I'm torn on Darnold. He was considered by many to be the most complete QB coming out of College in his draft class - projected to be a top tier NFL QB. Either the predictions were way off, or he is simply a victim of terrible circumstances and coaching in New York.

If he could be had for a 2nd or 3rd round pick, I might take a chance on him. I mean I think he's better than Mac Jones / Kyle Trask at this point, right?

I'm not sure the Jets are ready to part with him though.
Either one of our thirds, maybe then still try for someone like Mariota and draft someone in the third or fourth. Get enough guys for a competition and someone has to break out. Right?

I'd be ok with Darnold if we didn't have to give up a first. Just not a big fan of him overall though. I don't think he would solve the QB problem.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

Sit back at 19 and wait to see if Lawrence, Fields, Wilson, Lance, or Jones falls to us. I'm officially joining the Mac Jones can be picked here too.

If none are available, trade back and get some extra picks. Can then use 1 on a mid-round QB and still have plenty of picks left to fill out the rest of the roster.

To me Darnold would be like having a rookie QB. And yeah, I wouldn't give up a first rounder for him.

Fine with sitting at 19. Not trading back. Take the best mother fucker on the board who doesn’t play d line there. Should be a damn good tackle available.

This draft is shaking out to be quite deep at positions we need: T, WR, LB.

I'd be completely fine standing pat as well, but I like trading back, get some more bullets.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

I'm with most of the opinions in this thread on Darnold.

Definitely not a 1st round pick for him. Or even a 2nd.

For a 3rd though? And throw in a later round pick? Sure, pull the trigger.

Maybe he's Tannehill part 2, and blossoms once he's no longer saddled with shitty ass coaching from Adam Gase. If that's true, then you have a top 3 drafted pick, with talent (and underrated mobility), finally getting a chance to shine.

But if he still sucks?? You haven't lost much at all.

Use free agency, and the draft, to fill in the other pieces, and give us some depth. Positioning us for finding our QB next year, if Darnold is a bust. Something tells me he isn't going to be though.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

Darnold is like a pre-packaged sandwich at a grocery store. Doesn't excite you at all but is OK in a pinch if needed.

I'd offer a 4th and a 7th for him.

He's the opposite of Mac Jones. We have to compare the talent surrounding him to see if he really is that good. And for Darnold is he that bad, or just being associated with Gase is an anchor to any QB.

Depends on who's there when the pick comes up and what your tiers are. If a guy that you've got in the top 12 or so on your board is still there at 19, you grab him and don't look back. If the draft has pretty much followed your board and the top available guys are pretty much in the same tier, you trade back to get an extra pick or 2 and get a later first round pick that gets you a player that is comparable to the guy you would get at 19 - or maybe even the same guy.

Yeah it's definitely a case by case basis when the pick actually comes.

Much of this is just speaking in generalizations.

Stafford was worth a 1st and 3rd.

I would pay 3 first rounders for Watson. By the time you have a first rounder again, he'll only be 28/29 years old.

And would give whatever Seattle wants for Russ in my fantasy world where he's available for a trade.

Watson is every bit the player as Russ. If he were in Seattle all these years he would have one championship just like Russ and probably more. Nothing against Russ. He is awesome. You are underestimating Watson though.

I probably would too. Id be happy as fuck with either of them. I think Russ gets more acclaim mainly because he has had a really good staff and team around him unlike Watson. Also because of his stature. Russ is small and so it seems amazing that he does what he does. It is but at the end of the day Watson could do all the same things if he had the team and staff around him to do it.

Let the Heinicke fever continue!

@RapSheet
The Washington Football Team has agreed to terms on a 2-year extension for QB Taylor Heinicke, sources say, worth $8.75M. There are also incentives depending on how many games he starts. Real security for their resilient QB who started and impressed in the playoff game.

I generally agree with your Darnold take. The big issue, of course, is that if he's good you have to pay him immediately.

Which is the allure of rookie QBs. I personally don't like either of the QBs that may be available at 19 (Lance/Jones), and I sure as hell don't want to trade up for Fields (Not a fan. At all). If we could somehow get up to get Wilson I'd be thrilled, but I can't see how they'd be able to do that.

My preferences would be:

A. Trade the farm for Watson (unlikely)
B. Trade up for Wilson (unlikely)
C. Trade a 3rd for Darnold (?)
D. Sit tight and pick off the scrap heap for this year (likely)

Good move, absolutely no reason to let him go. Who knows maybe he gets a legit chance to play if all else fails. Those 5 quarters earned him a nice pay bump.

Your 2021 starter folks. If you don’t like it, get over it! 😉

Rationale: we aren’t going to bet the farm on a top tier QB. We will settle for signing/trading for a mid tier vet QB who will be in competition for the starting job. Because of Heinicke’s familiarity with the system, he is ultimately going to win the starting QB competition.

that is my biggest concern with him . . . i think he can play, as long as he can stay on the field and be playing close to 100%, not playing injured all the time or missing games.

I love the move. I hope he gets a shot (barring Watson/Wilson surprise) I don't think any other qb out there deserves the automatic starting nod anymore than he does.

Well said President.

Seriously, solid move, would be stupid not to give him a shot, and at the very least keep him as a good back up.
Plus, when you're trying to build a culture, you keep guys that earned it. Especially when it doesn't hurt you cap wise.

Love that shirt. Heinicke reminds me of Gus Frerotte in the sense of being the overriding fan favorite.

That said, I think it's unfair to label him as a qb who lost a playoff game. The Bucs defense was legit, and Heinicke moved the team effectively. It was definitely the lack of pressure that lost the game. Add in the fact that he was only on the team 4 weeks, and I think the t-shirt is a right fair play. My birthday is in June if anyone feels the same ;)
