The Titans owner? That's very interesting and ties into another fairly substantial rumor I'd heard
Is it involving Hasselbeck? Or Locker? |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Maybe we could get Hasselbeck to back up Griffin.

Nice idea. A quality veteran backing up a young quarterback is what we want. But because of Grossman's familiarity with K. Shanahan's offense, I think he will be re-signed. But I would think Matt Hasselback is still under contract with the Titans. But with the Titans having Jake Locker, they would have him playing every down at QB since he was their 1st round pick a year ago. But if the Titans traded Hassleback to Washington, what would the Redskins be willing to give up? Maybe a veteran/role player? |

I was thinking of it this way: 1) Titans sign Manning 2) Titans keep Locker ergo 3) Titans cut Hasselbeck and we can sign him without a trade |
So what would that do to Tebow? I would imagine he wouldn't be thrilled with going back to 2nd string or being a wildcat/option specialist.
If God's plan is for him to be a backup, I doubt you'll hear anything out of him. |

Please I know the Tim Tebow playbook like the back of my hand. He'll go with the "You never want to be a backup blah blah blah" and here's the key, he'll go into some shtick about how he's competitive. Then he'll give some plug to the SEC to lock up his college analyst job at the ESPeN. |

I imagine his comment would be something along the lines of,"You always want to be the starter, but if this is the path chosen for me by my lord and savior Jesus Christ, I will accept it." |

God's plan only comes into effect after a big loss where he gets to play, not when he looses the starting job. |

Hasselbeck. Rumor has been Bud's not the biggest fan and he might be a surprise cut. But it wasn't supposed to happen until later in the year after Locker got some more practice in |

Thats odd. Few guys in the NFL are as nice as Hasselbeck and few guys would be willing to take a rookie under their wing like Locker has with Hasselbeck. All the talk and hypotheticals of veterans teaching rookies at QB, Hasselbeck is one of the few good QB's thats actually willing to do that. |

How are the cards even considering PM being that they are nearly 17 million over the cap?
How are the cards even considering PM being that they are nearly 17 million over the cap?
Levi Brown is 14.1 million (base salary) of that. Stewart Bradley more than $5 million. They've yet to restructure any veterans.
Getting under the cap with enough to sign Manning should be easy enough, but it should be a consideration of the Manning camp that the Cards likely can't use the FA market to get additional help. |

Yeah who knows why. I don't know Matt Hasselbeck but from all I've heard he's a great and humble guy. He's what you'd think his brother would be considering Tim's talent level. |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Honestly, I'd take Tebow as a backup to Griffin. I think our offense could fit him well, possibly better than any other offense in the league because of the strong run game and constant play actions and rollouts on passing plays. I'd never want him to be our #1 option but as a backup and even a gimmick player with him and RG3 on the field...heck, Brandon Banks too, imagine that explosive trickery...double reverses with RG3, Tebow and Banks...who can all throw the ball! Ha...
I'd take Tebow over Grossman or Beck as our backup in a heartbeat. Emphasis on backup. |

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Jacksonville makes the most sense for Tebow, but I'm not sure about Jacksonville. Yeah, Gabbert turned out to be a disaster (great call Allen/Shanahan), but do they want to replace a mediocre 1st-round pick with another?
They need to sell tickets to stay in town though, so if that's their objective more than winning games, they can go there. Tebow would certainly have the running game with MJD and if they keep their current NFL-worst WR corps...hey, they wouldn't have to upgrade that position with Tebow's 10 attempts a game coming in. They can focus on defense, which they'll need to do with Tebow running the offense. I guess I could see Tebow on the Jags, but it wouldn't be any huge step forward for that team...they'll still be bad. Denver is a much better base than Jacksonville, so Tebow probably wouldn't "just win" with the Jags. |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I was thinking that as big as the price was to get RG3, we could trade with Cleveland right now and get their three number 1's and a number two. Maybe even more, because they will be more than desperate if Miami does not get Manning. Then Flynn becomes a long shot. I am not suggesting we do it, I am just pointing out that right now, we probably could get more thatn we gave for it. So its really not that bad of a deal.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I am predicting Arizona, with Denver coming in second.
Miami will get left out, will get Matt Flynn. Deciding factors: *Arizona's climate for an aging player vs. Denver's winters *Dome vs. Mile High Stadium in the winter *Better chance to succeed with Cards than other teams *Larry Fitzgerald vs. nobody in Denver and Marshall in Miami..Fitzgerald wins *Good, young D in Arizona |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I'm gonna throw a wild prediction out there and guess that Peyton, after deciding all his potential suitors suck, will retire and go into the broadcast booth.

Despite my name on here, I am currently in Colorado (and the locals LOVE the skins because of MS) and the Denver fanbase is pretty chill so I would love to see Manning come here. Tebow is a joke!

The last part talks about trading with the Texans so they can get Peyton. I like Shaub, and he would be way more of an asset than Grossman for working with RG3 on our offense. Plus, Shaub could jump right in and give RG3 a redshirt season if needed. The only problem is, if Shaub sucks our coach is unemployed because our fans want to win NOW. Its probably a stretch too because what could we give to get Shaub since we have given up so much to get the 2nd pick? Its probably nothing, but its for sure something to think about. |

Exactly. I'm saying we do not need him as a real QB. If RG3 goes down, our first franchise QB in 20 years, maybe since Theismann if you don't consider Rypien a franchise QB...the season is over anyway. We won't have a replacement QB that can play at his level. I'd rather lose having fun with Tebow than suffer through Rex again. |

Plus Tebow is a HUGE distraction that our rookie QB, who's facing enough pressure as is, doesn't need. And when I say huge distraction I don't mean like Tebow going out of his way to get in front of the cameras but he does draw media attention like moths to a flame. |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
I can think of quite a few QB's - Henne, Orton, Hasselbeck (if Tenn. signs Manning) who would make a better #2 than Tebow.
|
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Maybe it would take away from the distractions for RG3...the cameras would be following Tebow and leaving RG3 alone, or at least giving him smaller mobs.
RG3 is going to have a media circus...if a tiny market like Charlotte can create a giant media storm around Cam Newton, just wait until the nation's capital has a QB just as talented, if not more talented. DC has been starving for a QB like Griffin. I hope he adjusts to the attention quickly, because even with winning the Heisman Trophy, he hasn't seen anything yet, |

Tebow will bring his mania anywhere he goes. I think we'll have our hands full as it is with RG3 mania. Except our guy can throw! ;)
