At this point in Rattay's career if he was such a hidden gem I find it hard to believe that nobody would have picked up on it.

He is what he is. A career backup who's had some decent games here and there (but so has a guy like Joey Harrington), but he's certainly nothing to write home about especially in the circumstance that he's in right now being forced into starting duty after a week with the team.

I think the real question here is is Rattay capable of having a break out game? Of course, he is. But looking at it his overall career to this point, it's unlikely and would be downright surprising.

I think Rattay is decent, and that is why he has been in the league for a while (backup, or not). I always thought he was going to do well for the Bucs after he left San Fran. I guess I was wrong.

I do believe he can beat us (any given Sunday, blah, blah, blah), but the odds are so low it's not even worth considering. It takes a while to pickup a new offense, and Rattay was signed last week. The way our defense has played against much better QBs (and better offenses overall), I am not worried about beating the Cardinals.

An 80.3 rating funny enough puts a QB in the Joey Harrington range, which would be the 21st ranked QB in the league.

Why is this the [I]Ramsey [/I]treatment? Ramsey wasn't the only player to ever get the short end of the stick, in fact I thought he got a relatively decent shot to show improvement here.

It's my hope that with a top 5 passing defense we can shut the Cards down, and should logically be able to.

But this year we've played a 38 year old Trent Green, McNabb, Eli, Kitna, and a 38 year old Favre.

Rattay is certainly better than elderly Green and Kitna, and based on what McNabb has done this year...him too. The only QB we struggled with was Eli, so Rattay's probably not good enough to toss 350 and 6 TD's on us, but its a good signing by Arizona, and it is another challenge for us.

We have shut down good QBs this year, but this arugment that we should have [B]no problem[/B] [B]whatsoever[/B] this week is a little bit blind faith and very much uninformed. At the end of the day, we are still 4th in total defense, but are you expecting this to be a season in which we set many defensive records. Eli showed that we could be had by a QB who was not elite...so I would ask us not to get too overconfident, even if there is good reason to feel safe.

Exactly. We aren't losing games because of our defense.

Adrian Wilson and Roderick Hood are who we need to be nervous about, no one their offense though. Sure Edge is having a great year and their WRs are pretty good, but nothing our boys on D can't shut down completely. :)

80.3 is solid, but I wouldn't call it good. If he were a starter at this point in the season, he'd be the 19th-20th rated passer. And I'm not saying that he completely sucks, but being thrown into the mix with a week to build some kind of chemistry with the receivers AND prepare for the Redskins defense should definitely be considered, Advantage: Redskins.

Joey Harrington has a career rating of 69.1. His rating this year is 80.3, but thats over 6 games and you can't just use that number as if its [I]classic[/I] Joey Harrington. Classic Harrington is 69.1, way worse than 80.3.

It's also a very pass happy year for quarterbacks, so 80.1 this year is not as good as 80.1 career is. So that may rank 21st in the league, but chances are that given 6 games, Rattay would likely be between 85-90 in QB rating based on in-year adjustments.

Which, again is good. Not great, good.

What exactly did Arizona pick up on?? C'mon they were desperate and he was the best name out there.

I called it the Ramsey treatment because some like to think that he's still this hidden gem that only needs a chance to prove himself, when in reality he's had his chances and has failed to do so and that's why he's a backup.

Hey I agree that Rattay is a decent backup, I just argue that the fact that he's "good" but again it depends on your definition of that word relative to a QB.

GT, so what is the crux of this argument? That Rattay is better than we think or that he's underated?

This is an average Joe with some respectable stats - that's it. Like I said earlier, he's capable of playing like Peyton Manning this Sunday, but it's certainly not anything anyone should be expecting at this point. The guy was at home watching NFL Network two weeks ago, and he get's called near the mid point of the season. And I'll bet the longer he plays this year, the lower that QB rating drops. At this point, he what he is.
