You know what's just as funny. Ummm I mean crappy........."HailRedskins.com" will/should haved to change their name also. LOL. What about other companies that use part of the team name....like say......"The Washington Post." LOL. "The Washington Times." LOL. I know I know I'm going overboard but it would be nice to see someone stick it to the Post. LOL.

I wonder if you can call the site the "Washington Warpath" this way anyone who googles will find anything related to Washington which would include "The Warpath"?

I want to change the name of the forum to the "Ultimate Redskins Coca-Cola and Pepsi Forum for Redskin Fans that Eat Frito Lays and Trade Stocks on E-Bay so one day they can drive BMW's if they don't already, in which case they can get a Honda Warpath"

I remember my marketing teacher telling me that one time a kid working at KFC got sued by Pepsi because when an "undercover" person working for Pepsi ordered a Coke the kid didn't correct him.

Re: Important site news please read

This is ridiculous. I don't see a reason for the NFL, Redskins, or anyone else to say that this site would/could be a detriment to either of the two. It's stupid to me that they would look at the NFL's whole world, all of the things that are wrong with it and pick out fan sites. Fan sites ? A bunch of men, women, boys, and girls who MUST be fans. Pretty dedicated fans I'd say. Either I'm reading something here or I'm posting. Mostly reading but the feelings that fans have for this game and this team resonated throughout this site. Extremeskins, to their credit are I guess you can say the "official" site but so what ? There can be only one ? What the hell is this freaking Highlander ?

The site will be fine. It's a blower because there are so many hoops that Matty will have to jump through just so we can have a place such as this to talk about the NFL, the Redskins, Grand Theft Auto IV, Lavar, Ramsey, or the cult like Question 3 ! Whatever must be done can, and will be done. If the site name must be changed then we can make sure that we search for it either through yahoo or google on a regular basis. I spend a lot of my work day here. My wife found this site one day when looking for a place to find me something for Christmas a couple of years ago. I've loved it since. I've tried to share my time between here and extremeskins but it's a tad difficult to sort through. Or maybe I just got spoiled here.

To all of those who work on this site be it running it, posting, trolling, making duplicate threads lol, reading the threads, ot spreading the world. Keep on doing what you're doing. You can change the name but you cannot change the content. You can't change the soul of this place which is our love for the game of football, more specifically the Washington Redskins. Oh yeah and you who are fans of other teams in the league......we'll give you time to get your life right ! Back to my point. Keep on what you're doing, we'll still be here with you guys !

Hail To The Warpath !

Hail Matty K

And to the NFL

You can all, go, to hell !

Come on everybody let's sing along !

I certainly understand the legal problems behind the IP and trademark issues, but man talk about shitting on the little guy.

"Hey, let's go find some of the most diehard, loyal NFL fans around, the guys who sit around and talk about their team all day long...let's find them, and force them to take anything NFL-related down!"

Brilliant plan. Way to encourage the fan base that made you all billionaires.

I would have given them links to any Dallas, Eagles, and Giant sites that you knew of just to get at them a little. Heck, I didn't even see this until today.

Matty,

I am sure this is not an easy time. I agree with not giving up a domain you own. If they want to purchase it, then... that is a different story. Of course, they are within their rights to stop us from using their logo's. Just stupid overall though.

Can I petition to change my user name so I don't get sued by the NFL?

What if I called Chris Gordon over at NBC 4 and "bring this up". Or do you think that would cause too much of a stink?

Eeesh. This sucks. Oh well, they can't change the quality of the posters and the discussions we have, and ultimately I guess that's all that matters. I suppose rather than embedding youtube videos we could just post links, right? I would think in that case the NFL would have to take it up with youtube and not us....

Sorry you had to deal with this, Matty. Thanks for taking the time to make the proper corrections and keeping us all in the loop.

yeah thanks for everything Matty. I am sure the site quality will not go down. the NFL is being a huge douche right now but what can you do? I cant even get Redskins checks because I live in TX and Bank of America only supports the Cowboys. The way this is being handled only makes this site better IMO.

It's all my fault, fellas. I tore one of those mattress labels off my mattress--a very serious crime. Then I was busted for jaywalking. And finally, I drank beer as a minor. The feds had me in a bind, so I gave up all the crazy illegal stuff going on here. Look, I just can't do time. I am just too pretty. I wouldn't last an hour in there. My bad.

What a crock of horse shit. Yet another way to pay back the loyal fans.

Let us know if you need anything to help keep the site going, Matty. Do we need a legal defense fund?

Could the solution be as simple as removing the "s" from Redskins? They only have the word Redskins trademarked right?

The reason I ask is because the guys a RedskinRoadtrips made it a point to leave out the "s" to avoid the trademark issue when they named their site.

Yeah we've discussed (among the mods) several possible alternatives, exactly like the one you mentioned. Our current position is simply to comply with their request and remain inconspicuous for the indefinite future. We don't want to draw more attention at the moment.

Best thing everyone can do is continue to provide quality posts and contribute to intelligent discussion. People will find this site. They key is to encourage them to want to stay once they get here.

And some word of mouth advertising doesn't hurt either, to fellow fans that you know and think would make good additions to the site.

Just don't run your mouth on ES. Last thing we need is their rejects, well unless you outline the fact that you won't be able to create threads on obscure topics just because your post in the main thread happened to fall on the bottom of a page and become replaced by a new totally.......no stupid threads.
Alright here's the scoop folks.

So again, the major change is with the domain name. The NFL will be taking ownership of redskinswarpath.com in the next few days so that domain will no longer point here. We'll back to thewarpath.net as our main domain name, so be ready. I'll give the site a heads up before the change goes through.

Thanks.
How much for a lawyer I would be willing to throw in a donation, A consultation should not cost too much to find out if the NFL has a right to the domain name. 10, 20 dollars a member should be way more than enough. Seems to me this team is called the washington redskins. Not the redskinswarpath. How can a judge rule for the nfl on that one. I would stall for a few days and find out about your rights. If you are willing to give to the cause then someone start a new thread and get some volunteers. We need to go quickly.

I tell all my B&G friends, and few get motivated to visit. I'm not sure why. This forum has seemed like family for more than four or five years now for me. When I got the error message, I felt like I had lost many hundreds of friends with no way to re-connect.

Intelligent discussion is great, but sometimes I just enjoy bringing a little humor to the discussion.

It's great you are able to bring the site back, but I'm sorry about the circumstances that brought this about.

I think I will go in and change my User CP, or thread subscription or something. I echo an earlier comment about some sort of e-mail system for members about any other drastic shutdowns should help ease our worry.

One thing we could do is utilize the visitor messages to welcome new people when they sign up. We don't have a hospitality section where people can introduce themselves, so that might be a good way to make people feel at ease and encourage them to join the discussions.

This is the lamest thing I have ever heard. I work in online and personally, think that this approach of sending a cease-and-desist over trademark / IP infringement is such an archaic and old school approach.

It makes me sick. Sicker than the Redskins picking three receivers in round 2.

Archaic and old school, businesses use their branding more today then ever before and I can understand why they asked for us not to use their logo's. For all they know Matty is making money off this site while using their logo's so that makes sense. The domain name is what I don't get. They do not have a trade mark on the word redskin rather they have a trade mark on the way the logo is done. Like how the "R" is designed and associated with the NFL and the Redskins.

Re: Important site news please read

I have a hard time understanding why the NFL is coming down on fan message boards. In my opinion, they would be better served to work with message boards. This would only promote the NFL and create tons of goodwill.

They should be able to see that there isn’t a monthly charge or any fees to be a member. The Warpath, like most all message boards, give you the chance to make contributions to defray the cost of running the site.

I understand copyrights and such, but most message boards are created by fans for fans. Instead of trying to have games all over the world, work with your real fan base. Help us to develop better sites to promote their product.

Re: Important site news please read

Perhaps you should no longer take advertising of NFL Licensed products?

All jokes aside (yes, that was a joke)... While they are being petty, they are within their rights about the logo's. I would not give them the domain without financial considerations. You can always tell them you plan to give the domain to a Native American Casino.
