Is anyone old enough to remember the Dana Stubblefield and Dan Wilkinson signing years ago?...Don't get too excited for Haynesworth yet because he has yet to show what he can do in OUR system. We got two stallwort DT's with Stubby and Wilkinson and their effect on our defense was minimal. Haynesworth is one person and subject to the scheme that he plays in. Let's have some tempered realism with our expectations.[/quote] Fair point, but free agent DTs Dave Butz, Tim Johnson, and Cornelius Griffin did pretty well for us when we signed them |

lol, yeah it might be but let's see what Vinny does about shoring up our biggest need...the offensive line. It's been known for the last 2-3 years that our line needed upgrading, big time and they just kept ignoring it and when Vinny said that he doesn't draft for need, that was the nail in his coffin for me. So far so good though and it's still early in the FA market. Hopefully Vinny WILL draft for need this year and get the offensive line fixed. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
A good point was just introduced on ESPN in DC re: AH. He is the number one pick in the FA market. Highly sought by several other teams. The FA big money busts in the past have all been in the.......twilight of their careers, and not especially coveted by the other teams. Not so in this case
|
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Wow... Well, we'll see! I worry about motivation, but he's clearly got the talent.
This is pretty much a make or break move for Vinny, IMO. And that's good as well. |

Huh? Yeah the Browns as a team were a bust last year but Rogers was a pure beast for them and was in the Pro Bowl. |

The Jets didn't make the playoff because Brett Favre threw a whole bunch of interceptions at the end of the season. I think they fielded a decent defense, given how competitive the AFC East was this past season. Shawn Rogers was not necessarily a bust, and just like us, the Browns had their offensive issues as well (remember Braylon Edwards dropping all those passes?). And I think the 49ers were giving up on their coach this year, yet don't forget that they were a few games away from being the AZ Cardinals. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
I would have rather grabbed Canty...re-signed Hall...then get Dockery. From a locker room standpoint...is London Fletcher still going to be able to be a leader...or are Hall and AH going to be like F off old man we get paid more. Same thing with Chris Samuels and all those other guys that restructured. They broke their you know whats for this franchise...took pay cuts...then watch two punks...(and they are punks lets not beat around the bush here) get paid more than they have ever seen. I thought we were on the right path last year by building through the draft and grabbing small pieces in FA to enhance the team. Here we go again.

Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
I havent read all 6 pages here, but on ESPN980 this morning, Cerrato said Haynesworth took less money to come here than he was being offered by another team (presumably Tampa Bay.) Now, we can't necessarily beleive this because, of course, Cerrato wants to give fans the impression we got a great player and at a "bargain." However, if Cerrato can be beleived, then it gives me hope that Hyanesworth is not all about the money. He's getting a ton of money, but he wanted to come somewhere:
1) In the spotlight. Haynesworth certainly wouldnt want to be in the spotlight if he had the intention of being a lazy SOB who didnt try. 2) Where he feels he has a chance to win. Perhaps Haynesworth will play at - or above - the level he did in Tennessee for the next 2-3 years. It certainly sounds like we plan on using him sparingly. Cerrato said he anticipated Haynesworth to participate in 55-60% of the plays here, and that we plan to move him all over the line. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
i,m alright with the signing of haynesworth but the money is another story...again we do nat..eed a stud at DT this is our answer to that..
wait and see.. |

haynesworth should open up weaknesses in the opposing o-lines for griffen, taylor and carter to all exploit. he should improve all of their performances. good signing, kinda scared of the contract but we got a great player no doubt

Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
I honestly dont know how we are fitting he and Hall under the cap. Allegedly, we are playing Haynesworth 32M over the first 13 months of the contract. The league will undoubtably have to approve the contract today. Since there is no salary cap in 2010 as of this point, they league has no reason to reject the contract.
However, what if a new CBA is reached between now and the start of free agency next year? What if this contract (along with others) puts the skins over the cap and there is no way for us to get under, even by cutting players, because of the cap hit? Does this mean we would lose 2010 picks, or would there be some other penalty? I guess no one can answer that question, because the new CBA would have to determine the terms for violating the cap. Its just something ive been thinking about. |

Not always of course (though Plax and Pierce didn't hurt the Giants), but not doing anything doesn't seem to translate into wins either. |

Yup, heres a link to the podcast, i think this must have been done at 6AM or something. Last off-season we were in a situation where we unexpectedly had to search for a new coach, none of the free agents really appealed to us, and we had a heavy dosage of draft picks. This year, unless we are able to pull off trades (anyone else hearing that Springs is going to Houston for the Texans' 4th rounder they just from Minnesota? Got a weak source on that one) we have to look at free agency. |

Yes, but you were criticizing the defensive players on those teams, and my point that the defensive players were not the reason those teams lost. And well Favre was sort of a FA acquisition, but you were not talking about him or any offensive players. |

If true, that would be a great deal for a number of reasons: 1) We would be getting a much needed draft pick at a round certain to yield us a good special teams player at minimum. 2) If we couldnt trade him, we'd have to cut him and get nothing in return. 3) I get the pleasure of knowing we screwed Springs over by making him play for the sorry texans. 4) The Texans get a player who would never in a million years come to them of his own free will 5) There arent as many stiff breezes in Houston, so theres less of a chance a 1 MPH wind will result in Springs being injured and inactive on gameday. 6) Springs will be much closer to his father and will have a shorter flight to visit him on the weeks he schedules his calf injuries. 7) Springs will be just a hop, skip, and jump away from his BFF Terrell Owens house. Instead of flying, he can just drive over to T.O.s crib and they can watch the playoffs together again. |

Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Well I don't know a bunch about these contracts but only 40 some million is guaranteed so he has to ern the rest if I'm reading that right. These guy's have ego's and most of these big deals never pay out close to what they sign for. I guess we will have to wait to see what the contract really is before coming to the conclusion about if we paid too much. It looks like we pay the bulk in the first couple of years so when his motor starts to run out we can get rid of him without a hugh hit.

He had 8.0 and 7.5 sacks in his first two years with us, actually up from his previous career average. Then he fell off to 3.5 and 4, but he did have 23 sacks in 4 years and even scored a TD for us. He was never brought in with the expectation of being the top defensive lineman in the game like Haynesworth, neither was the aging Stubblefield even though he was paid nicely from Snyder. Haynesworth is still young and can have many productive years with us. Also, we've watched Snyder actually learn and become a smarter signer of players over the years. He actually addresses needs now rather than just paying for the best free agents he can get and trying to out-talent other teams. He's a much more competent owner than early in his career, I believe Joe Gibbs taught him a lot. I trust him now. Back in the "Stubblefield" days, he was a reckless check writer. Now, the Redskins actually have a vision for the future instead of "just win now". |

Danny is still the same ol dumbass he always was. 154 mil for 2 players. One of whom can't make it through a season without injuries. What a boob. I can only hope that the economy crushes his finances and forces him to sell of the team. Time to break out the 'FireDanSnyder.com" t-shirt I guess.
