Re: Release Him!!!
I'd go w/ Thrash first...we save a bit on cap and to boot he's basically been replaced already. I'll be very surprised if he makes the final roster. But if it's an actual starter we're talking about...Rabach. He sucks hard, cutting him saves a bit on cap room and we should be able to find a replacement.
I agree with you Goat, it James Thrash. He is a solid locker room guy and pro but we have better WR and enough special teams players that can replace him. Rock can play RB and is a solid return guy that dosent turn the ball over. So Thrash is not going to be on the 53 man roster this season. |
Re: Release Him!!!
How are we going to release Rabach when he is our only proven center on the roster. Sure let Jansen get some reps at center and if he shows he be a capable backup center that gives us depth at that position. The UDFA out of Maryland Williams will hopefully get a shot in camp but he maybe a practice squad player this year. The center is the QB of the offensive line they make the calls for the line. Not easy to replace him.

Re: Release Him!!!
I would have to go with Carlos Rogers. Everytime I see him line up 10 yards off the LOS, I wanna scream. Especially when the LOS is inside the 5 yardlne. Are you serious 'Los? You are lining up IN THE ENDZONE? Great.
Not to mention his lack of hands. How many times does the ball hit him RIGHT IN THE HANDS & then he drops the ball. Then there's his coverage which often times draws penalties because he's usually looking at the receiver, not the ball. IMO, he's a bust & it's time to give him the boot. Hopefully, DeAngelo Hall will give us reason give him the ultimate boot. |

Rogers is certainly better than Smoot (the ultimate cushion-giver). Hall is still TBD as a Redskin, and Barnes hasn't played a down yet. If we give Rogers the boot, a starting caliber CB becomes an immediate priority. Ideally Hall returns to pro-bowl form, Rogers played like he did during the first half of '08, and Barnes steps right in and challenges Smoot for the 3rd corner (which I think is already happening). Welcome to board btw. I'm always missin 21. |

I think at this point, we can't release him because we are too close to mini-camps & training camp, but early in the offseason, this is a move I would go with. Because of all the things I mentioned. I like Smoot for his energy, but you are right about giving more cushion then Rogers. So like I said, about who to replace Rogers, I simply don't know. I would not want to throw caution to the wind, as this FO has done so often in the past & put some un-tested CB back there...too many things can go wrong there. At this point, I guess we wait it out & HOPE that things go better for him this year. That being said, this is the "Release Him!' thread, not the "replace him thread" so you caught me off guard with that. LOL |

Nothing in this thread says you have to name a replacement for the guy you want to release. Common sense just says it's naturally the next question. |
Re: Release Him!!!
id have to say Randle EL. for the money he is getting he certainly isnt delivering what he should be.

You are absolutely right. I just hadn't thought that far, that's all. If I had my choice, I would replace him with Ed Reed. |

As a WR, I like him. He's been good in that position for us. As a PR, I agree. He hasn't done anything there & quite honestly, I get tired of watching him go sideline to sideline trying to make a play & only gaining a yard, when he should be running north/south. Take the hit or don't return punts. Plain & simple. |
Re: Release Him!!!
Like others have said in this thread id cut ARE if we didnt have to take the cap hit. Id much rather just have Moss, Thomas, and Kelly catching passes at WR. ARE is a slot WR at best and he is a terrible returner. Hes not worth what we are paying him. For the years he has played and the amount we have spent he is the worst FA signing the Skins have ever had since Snyder has been here. Some would say others like Arch but at least we got rid of him after one year via trade and drafted LaRon Landry. Randle El has been here since 2006 and hasnt done one thing for this team imo and hes getting paid massive amounts of green.

Re: Release Him!!!
I hear Marko Mitchel the WR from Nevada has looked good so cut Randle EL and move on. Moss,Thomas,Kelly and Mitchel sounds good to me. we have the new rb's to do the returns.
and we are SET at the TE pos. |

Isn't that how we roll? :D |
Re: Release Him!!!
i didnt mean cut him for a rook. i meant just cut him and let thomas or kelly take his spot. i brought up Marko as a new talent that may come in on multiple wr sets. not as a starter.just a good addition depth wise
|
Re: Release Him!!!
I don't know. I like ARE. He's a good character guy & he's made some good plays as a WR. I'd really like to see someone else in the PR position, maybe Rock, or even Mason, now that we have him back. ARE just does too much east/west running for any good there.

Re: Release Him!!!
Jansen or Rabach.
Could we release Cerrato?!?! |

How is this not the title of a Colt Brennan thread?

Good luck convincing Snyder to get rid of his best friend & stooly. I think the only way Cerrato leaves the team is if he is run over by the team bus. |

No, that's not what I said nor even came close to implying. I was simply pointing out that it would take something drastic for Cerrato to no longer be here. Excuse me for not being more literal. Jeez. |

Well you'd be surprised by some of the things being said here sometimes. |

No I wouldn't. I have been a member of extremeskins for over 5 years & the dilution of intelligence there has pretty much driven me away. But, I apologize if I gave off the wrong vibe. I don't like Cerrato, but I wouldn't wish him to actually fall under the team bus. Maybe a metro bus....just kidding. :D |

I'm sure he'd get fired...and become a hero to all the Redskins faithful. Oh wait, now I'm instigating violence. Damn! |

LOL Ok, now we're getting silly. :D And hijacking the thread. I'm sure that will never happen, although, anything is possible. I would actually like to see a real talent scout & GM here. It seems that is the missing link here. IMO, Cerrato just doesn't cut it for me. |
Re: Release Him!!!
The version I like to come up with is Cerrato is hoisting the Lombardi trophy as champagne is pouring over him next February then just turns and hands the trophy to Snyder and says "Well, my work here is done" and rides off onto the sunset. Isn't that so much more family friendly?
|

I could live with that too. |
Re: Release Him!!!
But in all seriousness, I don't think Cerrato is quite as bad as people say he is. That said, I think this or next season will be his last as the EVP of Football Operations and he will move on to bigger, more non-football related matters for Snyder.

I'm sure someone will be like: "Cerrato doesn't know how to lift the trophy, he sucks. Now GMs from teams like New England or Pittsburgh, they know how to lift a trophy." |

What makes you think that? You think Snyder will make a move for a GM? Or do you think this will be Cerrato's decision? Just curious where your thought process is with this. |

I think Snyder would ultimately like to have Cerrato be more of his right hand man for stuff other than football decisions. Ideally Mo Brown or Scott Campbell (reportedly more so Mo Brown) will gain more experience this next year or two and move up the ladder. |

Hmmm, that's interesting. This is the first I've heard anyone say something like that. I would be interested to see if we could get a REAL GM here. I'm not familiar with either of those names so my next question would inevitably be...are they worth the inordinate amount of money Snyder would most definitely pay them? |

Scott Campbell is one of the major players in our FO. |

People say that about Snyder but I'd be interested to see where Zorn and Cerrato fall into the salary ranges with their peers. |

Since it doesn't have an effect on the salary cap, I am not sure why it would matter how much he pays them. If they get the job done, and he wants to pay them a top class salary, great. |

He could probably pay them a bit less since neither has experience as a General Manager/EVP. People here know I've advocated Scott Campbell for a couple of years. But I'm coming to accept that it seems he's generally viewed by Snyder and Cerrato as the perfect right-hand man so I'm not sure he'll ever get the top spot. I think Morocco Brown has more upside long-term but he's not ready yet. |

http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/28058-getting-to-know-redskins-front-office.html
Thanks. For some reason, I was thinking of someone else when you mentioned Scott Campbell. Not sure who, so don't ask, but was thinking of someone not in our FO already. I don't guess the salary would be an issue other then it would give the media something else to focus on with Snyder & his money other than what's important or actually news worthy. BTW, I'm pretty sure your sig is about me. ;) |
Re: Release Him!!!
Yeah they act like its their money that Dan is spending to improve his team. yet noone says a word when JJ builds a Billion Dollar Stadium. Or when the Lions pay a ROOKIE close to 80 Mil.
