Having a QB compared in the passing department to Michael Vick for me is the red flag. The quick release and throwing motion are fine. I would think of an analogy but I can't think of one right now.

Well its not the some generalized 'passing department' comparison that he's making, its a specific comparison of their [I][B]releases[/B][/I].

Are you Jarrett Brown? The red flag from my perspective is that his release is similar to Vick's AND that the reviews vary on his accuracy. One says "flawless accuracy," while another says "makes receivers work for catches," and another says "His accuracy was not deadly." That sounds a lot like Mike Vick. That's somewhat to be expected from a late-round QB though, so I wouldn't be completely opposed to spending a 4th or later pick on him assuming we don't take a different qb earlier.

Doesn't matter how quick it is when a little under half the time he misses the target. So no I don't believe Vick has a good release in a game situation. Now if you want to impress a scout with how much velocity you can put on a football then fine he has an amazing release, but it's like getting a rocket launcher without a targeting system.

THERE'S YOUR ANALOGY!! Only took half a month.

Anyway I will never respect a true mobile QB until they can put up respectable passing numbers. Most of the mobile QB's that have become successful almost always evolved into pocket passers; Steve Young, McNabb, McNair, heck even Cunningham eventually reached his peak when he became a pocket passer. In the end the fact remains, a football travels much faster down the field then any QB can run.

I think the point that is lost on you is that Michael Vick has one of the better releases in the league.

Having a good release is not a red flag.

The fact that you can't admit that Vick has a good [I][B][U]release[/U][/B][/I] imo tells a lot about your willingness or lack thereof to admit when wrong.

Release is directly related to accuracy. If you have a crappy release your accuracy suffers. Vick is inaccurate ergo he has a poor release. I believe you're the one trying to change the subject. And please don't speak of things you know little of. I have a whole book worth of post where I admit I'm wrong. All right maybe a childrens book but it's pretty reckless to suggest such a character flaw without evidence, or at the very least a limited scope.

Anyway to review a release determines velocity and accuracy. If one of those components is lacking then the quality of the release is reduced. I believe you're confusing a quick release with a good release.

By your argument if someone isn't accurate or lacks velocity then they must have a poor release?
That simple isn't logical.

The quality of a QBs release is indepent from accuracy or velocity.
You can have a horrible release and good accuracy or velocity or a great release and horrible accuracy or velocity the factors are independent.

While Florida's Tim Tebow had the majority of the media huddled around him at the end of Wednesday's South Team practice, Scout.com's Ed Thompson focused his attention on the quarterback who was delivering the best results on the field during the practice sessions--West Virginia's Jarrett Brown.


Ed Thompson: Jarrett, I've been very impressed by your pocket presence this week.

Jarrett Brown: I've always had a knack for it. I was always a pure passer. Some people think I've always been a running quarterback, but I didn't get my speed until I got to college. I feel comfortable under the center and dropping back and just sitting in the pocket.

Thompson: You putting some zip on your passes and you look like you're getting your timing down with this all-star cast of receivers.

Brown: Yeah, you know that first day, my head was kind of spinning a bit. But now I'm getting to know the plays inside out and getting great anticipation on the routes. So I'm able to throw a nicer and more relaxed ball.

Thompson: As you're meeting with these NFL teams, what is it that you want them to know about you as a person?

Brown: I really just want them to know who I am, just the real me, Jarrett Brown.

Thompson: Tell me about your family and the role they've played in helping you get here today.

Brown: My family is everything, I wouldn't be here without my family. I'm the youngest in the family. I grew up in West Palm Beach and had all these great guys who pointed me in the right direction. I just didn't want to fail them.

Thompson: Talk a bit about working with Pat White until he moved on to the Miami Dolphins last year. Have you talked to him at all about what you'll be experiencing in the coming months?

Brown: I haven't talked to him about the Senior Bowl, but I have talked to him about his experience with the Dolphins organization. This is a great coaching staff. They kind of remind me of the West Virginia staff. They are great people, the kind of people I want to work with. Pat came back to school and started showing me some things. And sure enough, the coach here said something to me about one of those things, so it was great that Pat had already told me.

Thompson: I know you've met with plenty of NFL teams, but who are just a few of the ones you've talked to so far? I'm sure the fans back in West Virginia would like to hear about that.

Overview

Travis Ivey started all 12 games as a senior at DT and received an invite to the Texas vs. Nation all-star game. Ivey stayed healthy his senior year after battling leg and foot injuries earlier in his collegiate career. Strengths
Ivey has excellent size and above-average athleticism for the NT position. He's a space eater with the strength to hold position well. Has exceptional lower-body strength to anchor and drive. Weaknesses
Inconsistent player who really hasn't shown the production that a player with his skills should. He's more than just a space eater, yet he struggles to make plays. He doesn't play with an attitude and seems content to just push people around without an intent to get to the ball. Had trouble earning a starting position prior to senior season. Really needs to be coached up and motivated.
Projection
With more teams playing a 3-4, he'll get some attention with his size and athleticism, but his lack of production and motivation will keep him from being a high draft pick. Look for him to hear his name in the second half of day 3 of the 2010 NFL Draft. He'll need some time with good coaching before he can be a productive NFL player, but he could get there if he sets his mind to it.
