Rivera could have brought him in last year but passed. I really don't see why he would want him now. He pretty much sucked in NE.

It's a lazy take by Adam, everyone just assumes it because they were in Carolina together |

Agreed.. I wonder if the Oline rankings are different when playing w Haskins vs Allen vs Smith. |

Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
The OL has been very solid all year
|
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
I guess they've been solid. Maybe being ranked 28th in the league in yards per carry is on the RBs, and 29th in sacks allowed is on the QBs.
|
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
Our run game has been non-existent.

I agree, but I think pass pro has been way better than run blocking. |
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
Doesn't add up to me. I'm not sure how you can be ranked 28th in the league in yards per carry and 29th in sacks allowed, but still have the 6th best O-line.
|

Offensive linemen often don’t get the recognition they deserve because it’s a difficult position to evaluate — one without readily available statistics to pull up in seconds. That's why the PFF play-by-play grading gives us a unique perspective regarding offensive line play, as it separates the play of the offensive line from the play of the quarterback it is protecting or the runner it is blocking for. Final 2020 offensive line rankings |
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
Ok. Well I would surmise then, that the RB and QB positions must be graded terribly if the O-line is that good, but the passing game/running game are so bad.
|
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
Wow we really did give up the second most sacks at 50 sacks. Thats surprising.
O line is hard to grade imo. I thought the left side would be an absolute turnstile that would handicap any offense we try to run leading to a 4-12 season. The expectations were very low for them. They definitely, each one of them, played above expectation. Scherff and Moses played through pain a lot. Lucas as well. Roullier is steady eddie. Wes Martin disappointed and Schweitzer took advantage. Run game = they didnt create huge holes or push their men back much. Pass pro = they didnt seem to get beat immediately off the snap and while not great, managed to identify and slow down rushers. They werent a top 10 unit imo but they werent bottom 10 which is what I expected. ---------------------------------- The Washington Football Team signed Chase Roullier to a new four-year contract Saturday, keeping the anchor of its offensive line under contract through 2024. The deal is worth $40.5 million with $19 million guaranteed, according to a person with knowledge of the contract, which makes him the NFL’s 10th-highest-paid center by average annual value, according to OverTheCap.com. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/01/02/chase-roullier-contract-extension-washington/ 10th highest paid center ... sounds about right. Kinda eye opening to see a center get 10M per but I guess thats the going rate. Good for Roullier. Great draft pick. |
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
Remember, we didn't have our current starting 5 to start the season. That probably put us in a big hole in regards to the rankings.
|
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
That's true, but even recently the offense sucks. I'm glad to know that it is apparently not on the O-line. QB / RB / WR need to step it up big time this week.

We didnt? I cant remember who was injured? Christian got injured mid season and Lucas replaced him. martin got injured, Schweitzer took his job. |

We started with Christian and Martin on the left side and it wasn't pretty. Oline play drastically improved with Lucas and Schweizer took over. I don't recall how many games they played before being replaced. Enough to bring the whole line down to start the year. |

Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
When looking at OL performance also worth looking at per player performance and play calling. McKissick and Gibson both averaged 4+ yards per carry but Barber was bad at 2.7. That brought the average down across the board, and to some extent the QB's did too. Average pass play was 6.3 yards. And then figure in play calling and execution where we hit very few big plays. OL largely did their job well so I'd argue better QB play, play calling and execution in the passing game in particular would make the OL rating make more sense.

Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
Maybe the number of sacks allowed were due to Haskins holding the ball, Smith limited mobility, injuries on the line.
|
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
Yep, I'm sure those were all contributors.

Not really sure Cam will even be in the league next year. No one will want him as a starter. Maybe he can compete with Griffin as a backup.

Think he will get a look somewhere. Just don't think he'll get a deal he wants. I still think he'll be somewhere next year. NE had him on the cheap, and it still didn't work out.

Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
It's weird, what I did see of him, he looked healthy but his throws were sometimes short of the mark. However, it wasn't lack of power, but seemed to be a mechanical problem. Kind of the opposite of Manning in his last season; had little zip but his timing and accuracy overcame that to an extent. I wouldn't be surprised if Cam went under th knife again this offseason, assuming he doesn't retire.

Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
“I play ball; I’m excited to go against the best,” Young said during a video call with reporters. “… I’m excited for every game. And Tom Brady — you think I’m not gonna be excited to play against the GOAT? Then you trippin’. And that is what it is. I’m excited to play against Big Tom. I’m not gonna apologize for saying I want Tom. No, I want Tom Brady. I want every quarterback I play against.”
LOL I love this dude |
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
Washington’s winning hand this season comes down to a simple formula: hold opponents to 20 or fewer points. That’s something it’s done during each of the final seven games of the season and 10 times overall. In those 10 games, Washington finished 7-3. When the opposition scored 21 or more points, Washington was 0-6.
|
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
That doesn't bode well. I think they absolutely have to have at least a 2+ turnover differential and a defensive score in order to pull of the upset. It's hard for me to believe this offense is all of a sudden going to get humming against this Tampa D.
|
Re: WFT Wild Card Pre-Game Thread
Looks like they have been held under 21 points only twice this year - Saints (3) Bears (19).
They have scored over 30 points 8 times. |
Antoine Windield and Whitehead are pretty good.
You're right. My point is this Bucs D is better against the run than the pass (1st in rush yards, 21st in pass yards), and if we're not able to scare them with a couple of deep shots, they'll load the box and make it very hard for us to move the ball, even with some short passing game. |
