Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Easier to say that on Peyton Manning day eh :D
Still I think it's safe to say we have enough viable rumors linking us to a trade up with St. Louis. Just because they horded picks last year doesn't mean they'd be adverse to trading them this year. If they get Manning then fine trade down and hoard picks but if we don't get Manning we all but have to trade up for RG3. I mean really, who else is there besides Manning and RG3 that can stop the staff from getting fired and preventing another episode of roster turnover that would make the stockpiling of picks a moot point? Quality over quantity my friend, quality over quantity.
I don't get this moth to a flame crap about RG III. I mean come on Cam Newton came out as a beast, but he will be on a losing team til they build one for him. RG III will suck on our team if we give up a bunch of high rounders. Do you really think our patch up line is going to help this kid? We have no depth at any position. Our most consistent wideouts are two old school vets and one in his prime. These newbies suck, minus Hankerson. I pull for Niles Paul, but I doubt he is going to cut the mustard outside of the PS. Don't even get me on our defensive backfield, minus Landry. Oh and don't forget we might be showing Fletch the door, which means our best LBs are Orakpo and the still green Kerrigan. ANd as for the quantity over quality stuff? Yeah that works if you have some depth, but we don't have that luxury, and sometimes quantity overcomes quality. Ask the Germans that fought two world wars about that. Sorry dude, but Manning is going to take one hit from Pierre Paul and co and lights out baby, the guy is going to be down for the count. If Peyton was smart he would just retire gracefully like Joey T. As for RG III, I have seen him earn his hype, then that KSU game he choked, so he is a good one, but I am not as sure he is going to be another Cam Newton. |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
So you guarantee RG3 will suck here? Thanks for clearing that up.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
We are totally talent deficient and will stay that way if we keep giving up picks for overhyped players. Jordan couldn't win a title til they brought in Pippen, Kucoch, and the rest of the gang. Shoot towards the end of the six title run, they had half the Detroit Bad Boys on the bench!!!!!! My point being is RG III isn't going to automatically make a bunch of scrubs title contender, much less divisional champs. I like the one rumor that had BA and MS trade down to 20 and get Tannehill or Weeden. We could garner maybe another second rounder and get a decent G or C, or both with 2 second round picks. We need to upgrade everything my friend, and not just QB.

With a starting offensive line that would be bench warmers on the contenders, yes he would. Cam Newton did marvelous things with the Panthers, but it didn't translate into many wins now did it. Why? Simply because he couldn't do it all, and his defense sucked. I am not saying RG III is going to suck with his performance, but he isn't going to win, with this sorry ass team we have overall. How many Pro Bowlers do we have on our squad? Or I should say Pro Bowl potential? Not too many dude. If the Giants stay relatively intact next season they will repeat as NFC East champs. We might end up being bottom feeders again, unless we really strike gold with FA and the draft. |

yeah, cause it's not like the clts went from the playoffs to the #1 pick because of a single play... oh, right. and it's not like cam newton did all that m.... oh, sorry, i forgot. if you want a great QB or LT, a top 5 pick is the safest way to get there. how many great teams won without a QB? ravens in 2000, the bucs once... how great were the teams in the SB this year? one lost to us twice and both had horrid defenses, but they had QBs that saw them through and made up for those issues. if you switch eli or brady for rex grossman, we'd be in the playoffs and they'd be picking in the top 10. This isn't basketball, you can't keep players for 10 years reliably. sometimes 40% of the roster turns over in a single year... how many player do we have from 2005? or 2008? how much longer should we "build"? whats the point of circular building if it can't lead anywhere without a QB? |

I don't understand the perfectionist mindset in regards to the supporting cast. Every year plenty of viable tackles, corners, running backs, linebackers, safeties, etc come along. At the end of the day they're a dime a dozen compared to the viable QB prospects. It's like we can't even look at a promising rookie QB until we've recreated the Hogs. Did a year of Rex Grossman getting game balls from the other team and John Beck mistaking the NFL for a game of 10 Mississippi not teach us anything? You may frown on the Panthers and use them as an example but I'm looking at a team that went from 1st overall in the draft to 6-10 and a bright future. They're talking about playoffs this year. Us on the other hand, we're wondering if our coach is going to make it past this year and weather or not we would have to deal with a large amount of roster turnover for the new coaching staff that would replace him. All of that trading down, adding picks, young talent that you guys love. A lot of it will be for naught when the new regime starts to realize that a lot of those guys don't fit the new new system, after which the cycle will repeat it self. I know this is sacrelig but the QB is the foundation of any team, not the line. You don't have a QB chances are you're not going anywhere in this league. Maybe you can sneak into the playoffs with an easy enough schedule and a couple of lucky injuries to division opponents, but other then that good luck getting there year in and year out with the Kyle Orton's of the world. I mean for God's sake look at Peyton and the Colts. They were starting one of our Training camp cuts in the Super Bowl at Guard along with an UDFA at LT IIRC. the QB is the horse not the cart. |

So, GusFrerotte..who do you want as the skins QB? Peyton? Rex? Tannehill? Yourself?

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
As if every team has to build their team slowly an methodically. Our talent is not as bad as some people tend to think. Our defense is better than the Panthers D was last year.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Like I said people talk as if we are sending a pop warner team out there. It's already been established that we are signing a WR in FA. Be it Colston, Garcon, or Jackson. Also, outside of Jeff Saturday can anyone tell me the other 4 OL for the Colts in the SB years? We have two good TEs, our WR problem is settled with one of the FAs and probably our 2nd pick in the draft. OL Smith looked good but a draft pick/FA wouldn't hurt. That leaves our lineup as follows:
RB Helu/Royster FB Young WR VJax (in this scenario)/Hank/Moss/Gaffney/Armstrong/Paul TE Davis/Cooley LT Williams LG Lichtensteiger C Montgomery RG Chester RT Smith/Brown/FA/Draft Pick Yep worst talent in NFL history. Like Dirtbag said, trading back and getting 32 draft picks means nothing if we go 6-10 again, fire Shanny and the roster gets turned over and we're back to square one. Quality over quantity. We can have more depth than the ocean but if we have no QB to steer the boat you might as well sink the ship. |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
We all know that the Rams want our 2nd rounder and we don't wanna give it up but if all it took was our 1st rounder this year and next year and our 2nd rounder this year would you do it.
Yeah it looks like sf is out now, I'd still say
Miami Arz Wash Houston Are the only true options
And Seattle. They have already contacted his agent right after it was announced. Then there is the Bronco's who have already contacted his agent, yes and the big question ......what do they do with Tebow? Keep him behind PM or trade him? Apparently they are not fans of Tebow mania. As the rumor goes. |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Houston keeps coming up but it seems it's only media generated as far as I can tell not one team official has said they will and the fan sights have more about their current QB and hardly anything if at all on PM.
I think the BIG players are: Miami Seattle Redskins Broncos The jets have inquired but they don't have the ammo to get him and all his friends. |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
The Jets or Arizona,Redskins would get their QB(Sanchez or Cobb) and still draft a youngin.
