Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Alex Smith's success is directly related to a defense that shut down some opponents. AS a QB, Smith did nothing other than throw short dump off passes except for an occasional deep throw to McLaurin. I do not belive there is a single team in this league that would have any interest in him. His comeback was a great story. But it is time to read the last page where it says "The End".
AS won games in both stints as our qb with teams that collectively the games where he did not play. I don't know what AS has left in him, but i don't see the incessant need by some to belittle the success we had with him as qb. The leg injury sucked for him and us, but he had all the skills to lead a team and win games. I hope he finds peace after football because it clearly is one of his anchors that he can't let go.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. That's probably his best bet if they'll have him. The jury is still out though as to whether anyone is going to want him after seeing how he regressed down the stretch last year. If Urban won't take him, I think he has to realize it's over. |

I'm starting to think Dak is done in Dallas; maybe not this year, but definitely after the 2021 season. I don't see them taking a risk and giving him a huge long term deal after that injury. No one knows if he's going to be the same guy. If they keep him (and they probably have no choice) it will likely be with the franchise tag, and then my bet is Dak says 'peace out' next year. Dallas needs their draft picks to rebuild that defense. I could be wrong, but I don't see them giving up a bunch of picks to move up, or to get Watson. |

All reports I've seen say his rehab is going very well. If Alex made it back no reason why Dak can't with a much less complicated injury. We'll see of course but I don't think it will be an issue. |

Yeah, I'm sure he'll be back. I just don't know if Dallas will be willing to go all in on him before they see if he's the same guy on the field. They might, but it's a risk. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Interesting stat
Over the last 20 years the Colts have had a 1st round pick (2 of those being the #1 overall pick) start at QB for 17 of those 20 years. They have 1 Super bowl to show for it. Wentz will be the 4th 1st round pick the Colts will start at QB since 2000. That's nuts |

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Alex Smith was broken last year. It got to the point where he couldn't move two feet in the pocket without falling down. I don't know that anyone is incessantly belittling the success WFT had in his starts. I think people are just pointing out that the team won in spite of his presence on the field. Those wins were championed by the defense, coupled with just playing bad teams with mostly backup QBs. I think a healthy Kyle Allen or Heinicke could have had this team on the same run or better. Love Alex Smith, but he was not the same Alex Smith, and after that injury it's a little self-centered for him to think this new coaching staff owed him the opportunity to see if he could play football again. |

I doubt Watson would agree to go to Dallas. Although they have offensive weapons (Amari, Zeke), they have no offensive line and their defense sucks. Plus they have no cap space to absorb Watson's contract. |

No he’s not. Watson isn’t THAT good. How good he really is and what he’s worth have gotten more than silly. People starting to sound like Snyder at the negotiating table. He’s not worth 4 first round picks and Chase Young. He just isn’t. |

The max you could trade is 3. There are rules that prohibit draft picks beyond three years. So there is a ceiling here. If Houston dialed up and said next three first rounders I would do it. |

Completely understandable. I just see a glass ceiling without a QB, but building in the draft and finding a guy works too if you find him.

Yeah I get the if part for sure. My biggest problem is if you trade 3 #1s for Watson and he gets Smithed/Theismanned on the first play of the season...where are you then? |

Sorry but that is a silly argument and that can happen with anyone. Injuries are part of the game, and that should not stop you from getting a young elite QB that will likely make your team into a playoff team. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
I honestly probably do a 1st a 2nd and CY for Watson.
Watson would have a bigger impact then CY on this franchise. |

It’s not a silly argument. It’s one of the reasons you don’t make trades like that. It’s BECAUSE it can happen to anyone on any play. |

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
From NFL Now: #Raiders QB Marcus Mariota has generated a lot of interest from teams, but the max value of his contract has been an issue for teams. Trade talk has slowed considerably. Could he be eventually released?

Yes, but if Watson gets hurt, he's not going to be hurt for three years. And I agree that it is a lot to give up, but if you are a team like Washington, which has a lot of pieces in place, and will have a lot of key talented players on rookie or inexpensive contracts, you can afford a trade like this. Every potential move you make, whether it is drafting or acquiring a FA, has some degree of risk. |

That's my bet. LV can't afford him, and teams aren't going to pay him $22m plus trade assets for him. It would be better for him if he was released, better for the Raiders (cap wise), and better for the team that eventually signs him in free agency. |

I agree it’s not silly at all .. look at it like this , if we had a top five pick and we selected say Fields and he got hurt and could not play for several seasons .. we would be out of one pick for that time .. if we give up 2 number ones and a second and starting player for a QB and same thing happens what are we out of ? Best not to trade away too much or as some say put all your eggs in one basket ... there is a huge difference .. |

Football Team will wait them out for sure. No need to make that trade. I would trade for Darnold though. I will confess I don't know much about him other than when he tore up the Redskins in 2019. I was listening the Sheehan and he said alot of "football people" what ever that means, I am assuming scouts, personnel and GMs, are high on Darnold. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Apparently there's two situations where Alex Smith (and his camp) felt slighted which led to Alex's comments.
1. Rivera saying that if Washington had a healthy Kyle Allen, they likely would have been in the same position as they were with Smith. (which is probably very true) 2. The fact that he did not start in Washington's playoff game. (Really?) It does? That stat is odd to me or non sense It doesn’t tell me anything. If anything it tells me QB is a position teams over reach for in the draft. Off the top of my head I guess the team with the most SB wins over the last 20 years had a 5th rounder starting at QB for them the majority of the time. I think getting a true franchise QB is literally like winning the NFL lottery. There is a lot luck involved in landing that guy. |

We take another qb. He also busts now we have wasted the picks and still dont have a solution. This is the cycle we have been in.
You take a risk in any move, and all you have to do is look at all the qb busts in the league to know that IF you can get a major confirmed talent you pay and be happy about it. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |
