JP
Good. I bet they have their eyes on Mariota and are just waiting to see what the Raiders do. Raiders probably asked for too much initially which is why nothing has happened, but they will eventually have no choice but to bring their price down, or release him and get nothing. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
That's a huge chunk, take away 10M of that for Cam tho
Why? Cam didn't make anywhere near that in 2020, and he had a bad year. His base salary was $1.05M, and with the incentives he earned, his 2020 total salary was $3.706M. No reason on earth to offer him ten million. https://247sports.com/Article/Cam-Newton-New-England-Patriots-2020-salary-revealed-free-agent-Bill-Belichick--157804033/ |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
The best option for the Raiders would be to include Carr in a deal to get RW.
Wilson is 32 and a total prima donna. His best years are behind him and he is much more concerned about his brand than the game. He doesn't have the height to read the middle of the field over OL, and has no appreciation or gratitude for Carroll constantly scheming around this deficiency. These players who make King's Ransoms and think they have the right to be GM or act like owners. They are employees, not management. Wilson is trying the same game Watson is, talking his way out of town after signing a HUGE deal. Wilson is halfway through a 4-year deal he signed less than 2 years ago. It paid him $140M total, $65M signing bonus, $107M guaranteed, and $35M annually. Is it too much to ask for one these a-holes to play out their mega-deals. Wilson sure wasn't whining when he made $70M in 2019, was he? That huge bonus represented a LONG term commitment by the team, and means cutting or trading Wilson hoses their cap, would be $26M dead money if they traded him. What loyalty does the team get for backing up the Brinks truck? None. These guys are total HOLES. Wilson isn't worth 3 #1s, and that is what it would take minimum. For $35M a year, the asshole can't just come to work and do his job without assuming he should be managing the company? I mean Jeez. . . The cap is $180M this year, meaning the dead money is about 15% of their cap, unless they hose themselves for two years. All these hypothetical trades are ludicrous. Seattle isn't going to hose their cap that bad. Wilson is too much of a money grubber to hold out, but given Wilson's age and how massively overrated he is especially in his own mind--he is good but is not Rodgers or Mahomes--Seattle might bite on a ludicrous offer. If they get firsts that would allow them to draft a premier young QB, they might decide to rebuild. Of course, Wilson's big complaint is not enough WRs and linemen, and that Seattle should use pass first O rather than using what Carroll prefers, M. Lynch type run-first. So going to a team with no high draft picks until he is 35 or 36 isn't going to help his situation. If Wilson wanted to pick his place, he should have said no to the $65M bonus and played somewhere for $15M a year less, but he had no interest in that. Another cancer of a player no one should trade for. The reality is that Wilson hasn't won anything since Lynch and Legion of Boom declined or left. He is very good, but not nearly as great as he thinks. He has some AWFUL games where you need a pitch counter to track his INTs, and not just a few of them. |

I think it's very telling that RR and this coaching staff want no part of Cam. Didn't want him last year for $1+Mil, and don't want him this year. It's probably actually driving the market for his services even further into the ground. |

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
So according to Schefty, here are the teams RW would consider if he were to be traded (according to his agent):
Cowboys, Saints, Raiders, or Bears. The Cowpukes have no money, an aging offensive line, and a terrible defense. I think RWs agent is smoking something. |
Rivera's a dinosaur?
He's too old school and defense minded to attract a young and dynamic player like DW. I do agree that RW wants to go to a team and have a say in how things are run and there's no way RR would ever go for that. |

With RW, I'm not saying he should come here or have us as a destination. But it just astounds me that the Cowpukes and Jets are options for the likes of Watson and Wilson, with how bad those teams are either in personnel (Jets) or cap space (Cowpukes). |
^ Yeah not sure I get that either. Ron is a player's coach and is pretty widely respected.
That's all true but I'm talking about how offenses are run in the modern NFL. Rivera is too old school to attract a dynamic young free agent QB. |

I do think the lack of desire to come here has to do with Snyder, the TW situation, and not knowing if it really is a new day in our FO.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Per sources, Texans QB Deshaun Watson met with new Texans head coach David Culley last Friday. In that meeting Watson reiterated that he wants to be traded and told Culley he has no intention of playing for the Texans again. No change from Watson's end. He remains dug in.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
This franchise is barely one year removed from being THE most dysfunctional organization and the laughing stock of the NFL. While it is possible the organization in the process of turning a corner, there's still a lot of question marks with Snyder and his antics over the years, ownership questions, sexual harrassment claims, the cheerleader debacle, TW, no name, etc. I don't see this team as one of the top destinations for free agents. Maybe next year, if they are able to build on last year's successes (and Snyder doesn't draft another QB) players will look at it as a desirable destination, but I don't think we're there yet.

Yep, unfortunately. I think it will take 2-3 years for the team to show everyone it has changed for the better, assuming the issues with Snyder is resolved one way or other. |

The Jets have been a shit show for the past couple of seasons as well, yet they still garner attention for some reason. I definitely agree with your points above, I just don't get how a team like the Jets all of the sudden is a hot commodity. |

Actually, Seattle would crush with that trade ... Wilson is 6 or 7 years older than Watson. Watson throwing to D K Metcalf .... dayum. D K would jump into the top 3 WR's in the league. |

Jets Garner attention by media in absurd trade proposals, and have overpaid some FAs horrifically, agents influence media and mention jets hoping they can get them to pay out another stupid deal.

No they aren't. We are a mediocre team at best right now. We beat one winning team squeaked into playoffs with losing record, got soundly beaten, and still have one of 3 worst owners in NFL. The expectation of league insiders is that in 2 years or so Snyder will revert to his mean (standard or typical) behavior. Only Homer fans are oblivious to how Snyder and the Skins are viewed by the league insiders. It would take at least five years for any hope of this stigma going away. People thinking of coming here get on the phone with Shannys, Gruden, Williams, etc., and hear the real story of what actually goes on here. The basic approach of the best players is, why chance it? I can go to a team without a turd owner, why take the chance that Redskins remain what they have always been under Snyder, and be stuck there 4 years+? There are at least a dozen well-run teams in league with NONE of the myriad dysfunction has plagued Skins every level, they are much sounder choices than us. I wish that weren't the reality, but it is. We are at least one more year, maybe 2, from being free and clear of the bad decisions of past regimes, especially the horrible Smith contract and dead money thereof. Maybe the league strips Skins of draft picks after Snyder investigation? Etc. |

Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Cam is definitely all those things yet in the 9 years RR had one of the best QBs in the league he only made the playoffs 4 times and 2 of those were one and done. Cam came along about 10 years too early. Had Cam come along now with coaches who know how to scheme and game plan for the skill set a dynamic QB like Cam brings to the table it would be Mahommes only 2 inches and 15 lbs heavier. I do agree DS also plays a role in players hesitating to come here. Even if a QB wanted to come here and play, with how unstable this organization has been it seems like a gamble these QBs aren't willing to take. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
If you don't think this team is on the rise then you will never be satisfied... The youth and star power on the defense alone has everyone around the league/media talking

It's going to take a little more sustained success to win everyone over. I get the hesitation by some, but at the same time there are a lot of positive things to build on no doubt. |
