That was definitely one of the least enjoyable Super Bowls I can remember watching. Had nothing to do with who won or not. Just based on how 1 sided it was. That was just an absolute beatdown.

Devin White should have won mvp. Sort of like Justin Tuck instead of Eli. Numerous other examples. Just rename it the winning quarterback award. Its stupid.

Drop a White type LB in our defense, and that's basically football porn.

Todd Bowles should have gotten the MVP

I was really surprised the emotional embarrassment of the Chiefs falling apart on the field. Chris Jones, Honey badger and t hill...all acted little pussies, crying like little bitches.

Eric Beinemy was throughly out coached...I’m so sick of the media crying how he is entitled to HC job. He’s not folk...get over it.

To see Brady and Gronk dominate seemed appropriate.

Todd Bowles is one hell of a def coach.

Folks Tony Romo sucks...the most overrated trash broadcaster

I think the Beinemy stuff is out of hand also, he's a good OC but almost anyone would be with that ELITE talent on offense.

Romo is ok until he starts rambling on and on.

That game was horribly boring, KC was never in it

I can't help wondering how it would have gone had Fisher not been injured. The Buccs publicly humiliated his replacement. And I suspect Beinemy trusted Mahomes mobility far too much by not having a back stay in for added protection. Buccs kept rushing just 3 or 4 and getting pressure so they had extra coverage available. No adjustment from the Chief's, just kept trying the same stuff on O.

Brady will get most of the credit but the game was clearly won in the trenches. TB dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball..

They made no adjustments. Should have kept in some blockers. Reid and EB had a bad day.

Chiefs had no answer for protecting their tackles once they had to move guys around to replace LT Fisher. You really do need AT LEAST 3 starting caliber Ts on your team bc injuries are guaranteed. They dont need to be all pros but youd better have a Cornelius Lucas type guy as your swing tackle.

That high powered offense couldnt run with the piss poor pass pro.

Wasnt the most boring Super Bowl to watch but it wasnt a good game either.

Actually I was thinking Lavonte David fpr MVP. White had some big plays but White was solid all game. Kelce doing nothing is all David's doing.

I don't complain about Brady, 3 TDs and basically a perfect performance, but the Bucs D was the MVP.

I don't think anyone is blaming the officials, but the NFL has got a problem with consistency of officiating. When you watch the Packers game, for the most part unless it was egregious, they were allowed to play. Last night, it was effectively the opposite. If multiple people are saying the same thing, then it's a thing. When one team plays aggressive man coverage a lot, and the other plays more zone, it creates an imbalance if you call every innocuous contact. In many games I've seen that PI on Evans get uncalled, as it was incidental contact. The holding on the INT was the lamest example of holding I've seen, especially compared to what TB and GB got away with in the NFC championship.

KC lost that game in the 1st qtr when it was so obvious they couldn't protect Mahomes. But the officiating ensured it was all over by half time. It's the biggest game of the season, one the NFL wants to be a showcase; the officiating shouldn't get a mention except to compliment how good it is. Not the case last night.

100% correct.
Tampa Bay played old school smash mouth football when they needed to....
The power running game with Fournette (#1 rusher in playoffs by a long shot) and their very strong offensive line helped Brady out immensely. The O-line also did a great job of protecting Brady.
Tampa's defense was #1 in the NFL regular season in only giving up just 3.6 yards per carry.
They recreated the old NFL recipe for success in the Playoffs, run the ball and stop the run. Back to basics, they ran the ball and ran short screens to slow down the KC blitzing. Then they could throw. it was not the other way around.
Tampa defense also led all teams in post season with 10 sacks and 7 interceptions.
Tampa just plain and simple physically beat up a smaller and weaker team.
KC drafting small speedy skill position guys the last few years caught up to them. Got to have the horses up front.

He could have checked out of plays, slide protections .. post snap he was fucked but pre snap they didnt seem to adjust or change it up based on what they saw. They had guys in motion but that seemed like a part of the playcall and not as a reaction to seeing the Bucs overload the left side or stuff like that.

One play in particular, Bucs show blitz and bring blitz, Mahomes throws a hot route to WR Hardman on the outside who never turned to look at the ball and it basically hit him unaware bc he never realized it was a hot route situation. Does Mahomes have to call out hot route or do you expect your QB and WR to be on the same page non verbally.

They refused to adjust. They keep calling 5 step medium to long developing pass plays, rarely helping that LT bc your TE Kelce was always a down field route runner.

Also ... I understand Mahomes was under pressure .. but you cant be running 20 yards backwards every time you feel pressure.

Idk if it is that easy to adjust out of the heat the Bucs bought especially with that porous oline play. Also not sure it is that obvious they didn’t try. When you dominate every defense you play for two years im sure you are thinking it will happen eventually and lets go with what has worked for so long....
Also on a couple of those 20 yard drops he threw balls on his head that should’ve or could’ve still been caught.

Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread

If the other team gets home rushing 4 all game, to the tune of a Super Bowl record, there is not much you can do pre-snap to fix it. Mahomes had no chance. I'm sure there were a few plays he could've done more, but that's the same every game. If you have 5 guys that can't remotely get close to blocking 4 guys, your offense doesn't have much of a chance.

SunnySide 02-08-2021 12:51 PM

Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread

Yes, Mahomes made some incredible throws escaping and throwing under pressure .. with a turf toe to boot. I honestly dont know how much he was calling adjustments or protections but he seemed very non-vocal compared to TB.

hes 25. he was the chiefs best O player by far. loss not on Mahomes. but I was surprised he didnt seem to take control pre snap.

I imagine an Aaron Rodgers/Drew brees/Tom Brady would have been very vocal. things have seemingly come easy for the Chiefs. They can dictate the style of play and never have to adjust. Basically got punched in the mouth last night and never got up.

I thought Bucs showed blitz and blitzed a good bit. All that pressure wasnt just from rushing 4. At one point the Bucs blitzed both corners.

sdskinsfan2001 02-08-2021 12:53 PM

Re: Super Bowl Gameday Thread

The Bucs clearly showed that they were the best team in the NFL this year. Best team doesn't always win. This year they did. Hats off to them.

Howard ruptured his achilles in September. But yeah, those other 2 did nothing. And they still shredded the Chiefs. Speaks to the obscene weapons Brady has.
