The more I keep hearing about the defense issues, the more that I see a lot of the same problems the defense had under Manusky: vanilla defense, no innovating blitzing, terrible communication, and bad zone coverage.

After the first three games that would be the last thing that would surprise me.

The defense can rationalize the chargers game “we were still in it in the end, first game…we will get better” as well as Giants performance “we got that dub…can’t complain”

Buffalo performance can’t be downplayed, by the players nor the coaches. They got humiliated.

Chase said on a radio interview yesterday re Del Rio - "thats my guy, hes a realist" then went on to say that there is a lot of communication btw players and Del Rio during games and in game planning and Del Rio is constantly changing things and taking what they say into account.

I personally didnt see any change against he Bills 1st half, but 2nd half they changed things a lot right from the first D snap of the second half. Putting more than 4 on the line, dropping Chase back in zone a bit.

What you say, and what you think aren’t always the same. Especially when it is your boss/coach/superior. I just cannot believe that Sweat, Payne, Allen, and Young are the ones not getting it done and JDR is. No fuckin way.

I noticed that multiple times Sunday against the Bills. Seems like Bills game plan to let him take the high lane, Allen would then step up in the pocket and then go to lane vacated by CY to his right and make a big play.

Lets look at the positives.

1. Chase Young is at least saying the right things publicly. coach and players are not divided or pointing fingers.

That is a great break down showing the real estate Josh Allen then had just by simply being undisciplined. One of those plays would have likely been a sack an a FG instead of a touchdown. Kind of shows it is not just coaches. The execution is lacking but you can't bench CY or MS for being overaggressive.

Seeing something like this makes me wonder if it's not a bad idea to move Landon Collins over to LB. We have some young safety depth, but our linebacker play is so poor in pass, that having something a little more familiar in pass coverage (albeit not his forte) may help the defense "catch up", to these plays.

Just seems like the LB's are lost out there, and if we aren't generating pressure or blocking lanes, then their are clear windows to a TE or slot guy is a disasater.

Moving on from Bostic would be a start. Getting a veteran LB who can play and lead this young group would help, but the front office hasn’t delivered.

We all said last year going into the offseason…LB was a focus where we need to get better. Davis draft pick works but needs experience, but there were a lot of options to bring in someone else in free agency.

Obviously not delivering at the position has hurt.

The bold part is why I'm not fan of Collins (along with his subpar plays), I want players that will do whatever to help the team.

That's flat out embarrassing. Chase ends up like 10-12 yards past the LOS on both of those plays. So was Sweat on the 2nd one.

That's the type of stuff I'm pulling guys off the field for if it keeps happening. That ain't right.

Local beat reporters confirmed in the offseason they went to Collins about it and he said no.

Just tell him we are playing a 3 safety concept or something like that.

We heard all TC that Collins was back to his pro bowl form, expect Collins to turn heads this year .. blah blah blah ... hes getting 50% of the snaps from these coaches who raved about him all TC.

Bostic -- i think the guy is a fine backup MLB and asking him to start and play these zone coverages on known passing plays isnt fair to him. I feel bad the fans and talking heads are ripping him apart when we are trying to force a dog to be a cat.

Offense targets the lone high safety by having a curl route run in front of him forcing him to make a decision - to pinch down or stay high .. he pinches down leaving the fly guy from the otehr side of the field wide open bc the corner released him thinking he had deep coverage.

Really common NFL play call. target a defender then force him to have to make a decision, QB only has to read that 1 defender and throw ball to guy he decided not to cover.

Really curious on who screwed up here or if it was just a good play call against that particular D call with good execution.

Yes, I am guilty of that in this case. I expected that Davis' snap count would continue to increase, and not seeing him out there much on Sunday was frustrating. I think David Mayo was out there almost as much as Davis.

While the LB crew has not been good, to me the secondary has been the true culprit this year. Like the article said, no one expected them (the secondary) to be this bad - it was supposed to take a step forward, not five steps back.

It interesting the article reference JOK as being a rookie phenom. We passed on him twice in the draft. I still have reservations on the Davis pick but I am more frustrated with drafting a project in the first than in him as a player.

Parsons is clearly just being asked to play Edge and rush the passer. I dont know what JOKs being asked to do but if is also just being asked to rush the passer on passing plays .. then that is not comparable to what we are asking of Davis.

One thing I learned ... dont expect a rookie to step in at MLB and be your QB on defense. Just a much harder position with information overload for a rookie, especially a green rookie like Davis.

Del Rio also finally swapped collins/curl for an LB on passing plays .. and it worked a bit at 50% completion but we got burned as well.

At lest Del Rio tried something different.

That fair I don't know the expectations of JOK either. I was just going on the article calling them phenoms at the LB position. Perhaps that is a bit of a weak analysis of their expectations.

I am still worried about him being a project. I don't want to be in year 3 of his four year rookie deal hearing his is still learning his role.

I mean at year 3 you have enough evidence and game film to decide if he's worth keeping around or not.

But I think we should've learned by now we can't rely on these 1 year college starters to come in their rookie season and immediately play up to par in the NFL.

Also I thought Davis was having a pretty good year as per pff and all that, just wasn’t getting alot of playing time? Are we calling the guy a project based solely on last week’s game?
Am I wrong when I say he was grading out real well for a rook up until last weeks game? Maybe making his first start gave him nerves? Also it seems JDR has EVERYONE playing under expectations. I don’t think Im ready to say that he isn’t ready.

I don't know what his PFF grade has been by game, for the year it appears to be 51.9. However, he's been in on less than 50% of the defensive snaps. I wish they would just throw him to the wolves honestly. I really don't see how he could do more harm than good at this point.
