Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
The switch can't come soon enough for me.
Here's my worst nightmare: Somehow, we pull off a win this week. in doing so, Brunell buys himself more time. But, ultimately we lose more key games and the season goes down the tubes anyway. But, it happens too late for Gibbs to consider any QB change, so we are stuck with MB for another 10 games. Everyone says starting Campbell means giving up on the season. I don't necessarily buy that theory. I feel he can't possibly be any more inept than Brunell. I'd rather have a QB who possibly throws more INTs, yet revitalizes our sick passing game, as opposed to a QB who rarely throws INTs because he doesn't attempt much beyond 10 yards. This offense needs a major spark and a QB change could be that spark. Starting Campbell isn't giving up on the season. Sticking with Brunell is.
Plus, many feel that anything short of the playoffs this year is a failed season. Regardless of our optimism, I doubt there are many here who would be willing to bet we'll make the playoffs this season. Giving Jason Campbell some opportunities before season's end will enhance his readiness for the coming season providing their plan is to have him ready to be the starter next season. Also, the sooner we get to look at Jason under game conditions, the better we'll be able to determine if he is actually capable of being able to lead this team starting next season, or if we would have to consider looking even further perhaps for a veteran QB. So, the sooner we find these things out the better off we'll be in terms of making any further decisions as to which way to proceed. I feel it's imperative we test his state of readiness "now" so the team can begin to rally around him while we still have our core group of offensive player locked into long term contracts and they can all grow together. |
Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
I posted this on another thread but here goes. I'd love for JC to come in and do great things but...
I think the players know if JC is ready and from what i've heard he isn't. For example, Sellars and Lloyd have recently been on the John Riggins show and stated that MB is their guy and if he goes down, they would want Collins insteade of JC. I'm paraphrasing here, but they stated JC is getting better but not ready to start. If you go back a couple of years alot of nfl scouts though JC was a "project" at best and wasn't worthy of a 1st round pick. Now, alot of scouts are often proven wrong, but the verdict is still up in the air. I just think the players and the coaches will make the right call on this one. Hey, i'd like to see what JC can do too, but it says alot when the players don't think he's ready to play. |
Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
Saunders recently said that Campbell is redshirting right now, but that redshirt can come off at any time.
Translation: he's not ready to play but if the season is lost Campbell will get his shot. |
Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
So I guess Todd Collins is Ready to play. Wow here comes yet another Michigan QB (not named Tom Brady) that sucks. Let's not play the young back-up, lets play the perineal back-up who has sat the bench his entire career! Yeah, that's brilliant! HAIL from MCUSA!

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
It has been the source of much conversation on the Dan Patrick show this pm. DP predicting that if the game goes south, Brunell grabs the pine, with Campbell in relief. I can't see Joe doing that, but I can agree with another poster earlier, in a loss, the skins fans won't let Brunell back on the field in the next home game. It won't be pretty.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
Sure in the hell won't be pretty! We are a proud franchise and losing is something we should not be getting used to! Think of us the Fans, we deserve better! HAIL from MCUSA!

Maybe Sellers and Lloyd could be correct in their asessment, but I wouldn't expect them to say anything anti Brunell at this time. If (and I say if) he's not deemed worthy by now then we really made a complete miscalculation in considering drafting him in the first place. Football is not rocket science, and JC is not going to get any better by sitting behind Brunell. The only way he'll get better is to play, and in the minds of many it's time. |
Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
If Jason Campbell is the future for us, we need to get him some reps, before the year is done, if we continue to lose. Campbell needs to be patient, we are trying to win a Superbowl, we are not in a rebuilding stage, his time is in the future.

I'm going to interject that old George Allen philosophy, "The Future Is Now" because there's no way this team is going to win the SB. With two more losses we will be in a rebuilding mode. |
Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
I think we'll make the switch when the 'Skins are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
I hope everyone is genuinely expecting horrific play when Campbell starts. The guy hasn't taken an NFL regular season snap as far as I know, so he should be expected to falter for some time. Guys like Roethlisberger are not the norm - struggling for a few seasons before getting things together is the norm. |
Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
if we are going to lose, lets do it in a year when we have our own #1 draft pick

At the very least Campbell would recieve much needed experience in the NFL to help in his developement, I seriously doubt he's learning anything productive by watching Brunell play. I hate to see us lose this week but part of me is hoping for a debacle by Brunell to get rid of him once and for all. |

Yes and no, I can only imagine what we would do with that pick and it ain't good. No one understands how to attack the draft in the organization. |
