Re: Willie Parker a Skin
KC Joyner
Parker can still be productive
"The key to gauging a running back's production is to see how he does on plays where he receives good blocking. The study showed that top-tier running backs will post a good blocking YPA of 6 or more yards, average running backs will tally between 5-6 yards and subpar backs will fall below the five-yard mark. ... Parker also graded out well in this category by gaining 301 yards on the 51 carries where the Steelers' blockers won all of their POA blocks. That equates to a 5.9 yards per attempt total, which is more than adequate and indicates he would be a quality pickup if the Washington Redskins decide to go down the veteran player path one more time."
|

Who will trade for his $6 million+ guaranteed contract? |
No way all three are on roster on day one .
I 100% agree. One of these 3 will be shown the door after the last preseason game. |

That really is the 6 million dollar question. Id love to package Portis with our 5th rounder for a 3rd round pick. |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
I also think they signed Johnson/Parker to replace Portis. If they cut him this year, then next year there will be no cap hit. I believe they will draft a RB in the 4-5th round. I expect several draft-week trades, even for mid-late round picks.

Cutting Portis next year would save a relatively measly $5 million against the cap ($10 million cap number with a $5 million release fee). During the Vinny Cerrato era this would have been a LOT of cap space but with all the space we're poised to have when/if the cap returns the cost is relatively minimal. |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
The battle between Portis, Johnson and Parker should be interesting. It should make us better.

Overaged and over paid, the more things change the more they stay the same.

dude has a 3.1max, less than Rabach's guaranteed |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Things are getting a little over crowded.
I think CP will step up with a chip on his shoulder this year... Johnson & NOW Parker... This offense will be explosive. |

The dont need another injury prone RB. |
Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Maybe Portis will be traded? That's a loaded backfield.

That's called a Shanahan offense. :) Seriously, we could run plays with 3 of them in the backfield at the same time, or even in an even 3-way share...they could all do VERY well. In the 4th quarter, we'll have 3 highly-talented, FRESH running backs. As long as all 3 stay motivated and with the plan, all will go well. As badly as Parker wanted out of Pittsburgh, I don't think he'll be a problem. LJ may have matured and will value another chance. CP...he could be the problem but if he believes in Shanahan and understands this will extend his career and possibly get him a ring...he could behave. |

He's not starting. He won't be abused and overused. It's a GREAT depth signing. We needed another RB. Would you rather have Anthony Alridge or P.J. Hill as the #3 RB? |

Ha, typo...I meant to type "with 2 of them". I guess I got a little excited about the thought. Definitely no Wishbone in the NFL...right? :D |
