Re: OT David Sharpe
David Sharpe - F
I'd give it a G or H if I could. We traded for him last year, as we had serious depth problems at T. Calling Sharpe a T is the height of optimism. Not sure he would have good foot speed or agility even in moon gravity. He moves like a G, but doesn't have strength of one. Yeah, he's a #4 T. You don't expect a world-beater, but if he ever had to man the edge for a long period of time you'd need 6 QBS on the roster. While I don't expect the FO to sign another FA in such a deep draft class for Ts, they had better draft a T with one of first 4 picks, Sharpe is so bad that even at league minimum (deal details not released by said 1 year deal) this is still an F signing. To me, this signing means one of 2 things: Christian gone or Charles health not progressing well. Let's hope the first. So our Ts as of now are Lucas LT Moses RT, with Charles and Sharpe for depth. If we drafted one of studs at #19, or a solid LT in 2nd round, this position looks WORLDs better. It bears repeating that Lucas and Moses older and will need to be resigned soon. Do we have the cap money for that if we extend Scherff and Allen (or by next year Payne), after all the contracts we've signed, many doubtless with small numbers this year that balloon next 2 years? Bringing in a young LT and grooming him a year sure does sound smart, versus spending $10M+. Ideally by 2022 you'd start Charles and whoever we draft at both Ts.
Was Sharpe really that bad? I think it's perfectly reasonable re-sign. I'd be absolutely shocked if we didn't draft a T in the 1st 3 rounds. And I think there are a lot of solid options in those rounds. If we're franchising a G for 18 million, I'm sure that Rivera is well aware of how important T's are. If Charles is ready to roll and we draft a T, I'm more than satisfied with the O-line for next year. |
Re: WFT Free Agency
And in addition to Kyle Allen I would include Thomas Davis who played his entire career in Carolina (except the 2019 season)
Thomas Davis played for the Chargers as well. |

I have never actually blocked anyone on here. I didn’t even know how. I figured it out though.

Re: WFT Free Agency
With both Lucas a nd Christian FAs after this year, Moses a year later, it would be negligent no to draft an OT in each of the next two drafts. If S.Charles is moved to tackle then they would need to draft another Guard, quite apart from planning for potential departure of B.Scherrf

Re: WFT Free Agency
John Keim
Looking back: Washington agreed to a 3-year deal with WR Curtis Samuel, giving him $23 million guaranteed. He adds the No. 1 quality they coveted most: speed. Washington had inquired about Nelson Agholor and Marvin Jones. But it added a versatile player who has improved each season; creativity will be key with him. Looks like Skins were checking Chico free agent plan at WR. How insane would it be to grab Florida’s Kadarius Toney at 19? 3 WR sets: Samuel and Terry outside and Toney in the slot? I mean if they have him as bpa... Right now TE and LB are our greatest need. FS and LT (draft prospect) next. |
Re: WFT Free Agency
Sharpe was fine. He only played sparingly, maybe two starts... gave up one sack. Obviously he's depth and nothing more at this point. Pretty low risk signing that makes sense.
So far it's hard to not like what they are doing (and not doing) overall. It's really too early to be doling out grades for free agency moves. We don't have the whole picture yet after a whopping two days... |

Pretty sure I know exactly who you blocked. |

Tackle, LB, Safety and TE are top priorities in the draft. Let’s who drops to us.

Danny Johnson is coming back.

Yup. Id grab a RB if available in the mid to late rounds too. Of course if one of the qb’s falls to 19 id consider that. I think having Fitz around would be awesome for a young QB. |

The team is making moves that clearly address needs and it looks like they have a good understanding of how the players they are signing match up with those needs. This is how a professional organization runs. Keep the goals in sight, balance needs of the team versus the constraints that the nfl and salary cap impose, and have a 2 to 3 year vision of getting and staying on top. Add in a touch of RR koolaid for moves like letting Sundberg walk and its a good time to be a longtime fan of this team. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

Jabril Cox (LB) out of LSU is another name that could be there in round 2 for us

Re: WFT Free Agency
I voted B on our FA after 3 additions.
Because all the signings we made makes absolute perfect sense and the team is improved. But the gaping hole at LB worries me, and I really don't see what was wrong with giving KPL 3.5M/yr. |

Haha I was thinking the same. My first block in nearly 13 years. |
Re: WFT Free Agency
I love the Samuel signing as long as he is in the slot.
|
Re: WFT Free Agency
We need to sign a FA linebacker today that fits are need ,we are so thin there right now it’s insane.

However, the same thing was being said after they let Darby walk and didn't match the offer he got. Soon after that we have Jackson III. Being former LBs, I'm sure they have Plans A - C for how to address the LB position before the 2021 season begins. |

Yep. Still need an outside WR opposite McLaurin. Maybe that will be Gandy-Golden, Sims, or Harmon... This would be nice: Rashod Bateman - 4.39 Curtis Samuel - 4.31 Terry McLaurin - 4.35 |

He'll be everywhere. He is one of the more versatile players in the league. |

Being former LBs, I'm sure they have Plans A - C for how to address the LB position before the 2021 season begins.
That's a quite fair point. But I the past few seasons proved us it might not be that easy to find 2 quality LBs, we only have one currently on the roster. Not saying I don't think they'll find a solution. Just saying as of now our FA is not an A without a start of solution at the weakest position on our roster. |

Rashard Higgins back to Cleveland. That was one guy I liked as fall back if we didnt land Samuels. No Jayon Brown, no Rashard Higgins ... oh well. |
Re: WFT Free Agency
I love the Samuel signing as long as he is in the slot.
He’s play outside and slot...him in motion to get single match ups, flooding zones or carrying the ball on sweeps is his best use. Speed and his versatility is what got him here |

Re: WFT Free Agency
Samuel will move all over the place. Backfield, slot, outside, he'll be motioned all over. We're not going to snap the ball in too many formations where we have two WRs flanked out wide. They may start there, but the ball won't be snapped in that formation.
I'd have my eye on Cam and Kelvin Harmon to battle it out for the #3 role, playing mostly on the outside in 3WR sets. I like Harmon's chances, good player who may still develop some more, so long as that knee allows. Or the #3 may come by way of the draft. Pretty deep class. But Steven Sims can GTFO. |
Re: WFT Free Agency
Steve Sims who?
He was such a disappointment last year. |

He's shown flashes, but overall he's been a disappointment. I cringe every time he's back returning punts, and he seems to have acquired a case of the dropsies on offense too. With Samuel in the fold, it's hard to imagine a place for Sims Jr on the roster. |

Teams in the NFL must be really worried that he may not get back to what he was pre-injury. He got much less than I thought he would. |

Article after article had him really liking the Titans organization and teammates .. plus that injury probably reduced his market a bit, he was given a full medical clearance .. This way he gets about 5m, can ball out for 1 year and hit FA next year > FA this year anyway |
Steve Sims who?
He was such a disappointment last year.
Yes, but he played very well in 2019. I thought he could make the next step up in 2020 but he seemed to lack the speed and explosion he had the previous season. At this point, I have no idea what to expect from him going forward. |

We know free agency isn't finished, not by a long shot. Dudes will keep signing for the next month. A week will go by and then we'll add somebody. Another week will go by and we'll add someone else. So when you grade the moves so far, you have to do just that, grade the ones we've made so far. For the rest of the openings all you can do is give an incomplete - aka leave them out of your thinking. When we get to June then you can grade it as a concluded thing, with omissions factored. It's a definite A on the three guys they've added. Yeah we still need LBs but I assume that's coming in the next few weeks. Only if they fail to address it will I take umbrage. |
Re: WFT Free Agency
Pie in the sky I know, but Philip Lindsay is an FA now. Can't help wondering what options having him and AG in the backfield would offer.

He's definitely going to be facing an uphill battle to make the team. |

I'd be surprised if they don't sign an FA LB soon, but I suspect they will add 1 or 2 more via the draft anyway. |
Re: WFT Free Agency
We need some serious upgrades at LB. If we can't do significantly better than KPL something is seriously wrong. I'm sure Ron and Jack have a plan. The offseason literally just started.
