We drafted Kirk Cousins effectively.
Also a drafted qb would get about 3 years, maybe less if he's too immature to put in the work.
We drafted KC as an afterthought and he is still a divisive topic. But the vikings after 3 years with KC finished with the same record as us with 4 qb's. But let's play out the draft a qb scenario: So we draft a qb or two this year. We give him 3 years. Meanwhile our awesome dline gets older and we let 2 go due to contract. And at the end of 3 years we realize we still suck at selecting qbs and have zero to show for our dline. That is as likely a scenario as our FO hitting on a qb not picked in the top10. And if we are trading to get into the top 10, I am just as content trading for a qb with known NFL ability that our coaching staff thinks they can succeed with. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |
The window is opening, but we shouldn’t be irrational in getting a QB. Yes poor front office QB decisions lead us here, making another poor one does not help.
So here would be my perimeters in a trade... 1. Derek Carr does not get an extension. He is under contract at 20 mill for both 2021 and 2022...let him play it out and as we get to see if he is a fit. Do not Alex Smith where we are still reeling from an already poor trade. 2. Under no circumstances do you give A first round pick for Carr. He isn’t worth it.
1. I wouldn't give him an extension right away either. 2. Someone would give up a first for him no question. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Who would give up a first? Indy? What’s our competition for Carr?
Darnold, Carr,Wentz,Minshew, Winston ... which one of these would you pick ?
The one i can try for a year and get rid of if he doesn’t pan out that doesn’t really cost us much. Wentz still intrigues me even though he had such an awful year. |

Indy. Chicago? SF? New England? Any other team that needs a quarterback is in good position in the draft. |

Cap hit is too big to let him go, something like $49M |

Carr is a choker, I’ve watched plenty of Raiders games, they want two 1st which they would turn around use them to try to trade for Watson. There’s a reason why the raiders want to move from Carr. |
Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
With our really impactful FA upgrades dwindling, I stick to my statements that our best route is to retain Alex Smith as the starter, who can only get stronger physically with another full offeseason, and roll with him as a mentor to a draft pick that will either take over later in 2021 when ready, or keep watching as Alex takes us to the playoffs again.
Carr and Wentz will cost too much for not enough of an upgrade. Darnold, Minshew, Mariota, Garappolo...nothing special with no track record of sucess. Smith and a early-round QB are the better route if we can't land a true franchise QB like Rodgers, Stafford or Watson, which we won't at this point.. And upgrade around whomever the QB will be...WR, O-Line and fill the few holes on D like LB. I honestly think the secondary we were concerned about coming into last season really showed to be a strength. Fuller and Darby played great, Curl and a healthy Collins will be a good combo that we need to get on the field at the same time. Moreland and Everett made some plays too. Sure it could use upgrades, but it's not dire like it used to be. Aside from LB, we can and should concentrate on offensive upgrades. |

Hilarious that Dallas is at 11 and Philly 19. What disrespect to the WFT and NYG.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
Dallas ranked 11th shows that's a joke. Worst D in the league, no idea who the QB will be yet, and one of the worst salary cap situations in the NFL.
Texans, Eagles, Panthers, Bears, Vikings, Raiders, Giants, or Cowboys all have no reason to be ranked ahead of us. |

Beat me to it, nether can win it's own division yet you have them placed higher than the team that did, it's stupid. |
