Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
I'm glad they signed him because our defense really killed us last year. Unlike our offense which was a juggernaut.
This is another disastrous move by Cerratto/Snyder. They are not about addressing needs, they are about selling a once great brand to the masses who don't have the sense to know any better. To Dan Snyder there is only money. That's his whole universe. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
I wonder what the Cowboys, Giants, and Eagles interior linemen are thinking right about now?
Redskins put NFC East on notice with signing of Haynesworth Yes, we're absolutely a 4-3 defense. The rest is just speculation at this point.
Haynesworth will start at the nose. Griffin will take the 3 shade. Carter will be the right end. I have no idea who will start at LE. I think Daniels will probably come back at vet minimum, but it's hard for me to see Jason Taylor there as a three down end. We've already made that mistake once... Fletch in the middle, and I think Rocky will shift over to the strong side. I could see either Blades, or Taylor, or even a draft pick at weak side LB. Then you have Hall and Rogers at the corners and Landry and Horton at the safeties, and that's pretty straightforward. I would consider taking Maualuga with the first round pick if we get some free agent help on the OL. Right now, the defenses biggest weakness is the increasing attrition rate with Fletcher's age, and the fact that we are absolutely reliant on getting another 16 game season from him. He's a warrior, but is that a gamble we really should be taking?
I agree with this analysis and I think Taylors main position in 2009 will change dramatically depending on who we draft. If we draft Maualuga, then obviously Taylor would spend more time at DE. However, if we draft an OT, i think its more likely Taylor would play mostly LB and we bring back Evans or Daniels to play DE or even consider moving Monty there. In that scenario, Daniels is the most likely option... we could have him for the vet minimum, which would be next to free considering the cap credit teams get for signing older players. One other thing i'm not so sure about is Horton and Landry as our SS and FS, respeectively. I'm prediciting right now that Landry moves back to SS this year with Kareem Moore as our starting FS on opening day. |

However the rest of the East doesn't have such a pleasant distraction at the moment. The guy I'd be interested to see a reaction from though is Gurode now that he has to face Haynesworth twice a year now. |

We do need to address the OL, for sure. But we also need to get our Thomas, Kelly, and Davis out there to complement Moss, Portis, and Cooley and together with JC's growth the offense should improve. Investing so much in Haynesworth does present a bit of a risk but it potentially takes our defense to an elite level which makes the team much better...and we don't have to look to Ryan Boschetti for depth anymore. Now starters like Golston finally go to where they belong (solid depth on the bench) Disastrous move is quite hyperbolic |

He could have been lying to get the job, but he told Cerrato his suspension for doing that is what ""woke him up" and made him realize he needed to get his act together. |

Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Whats the big deal that he stepped on the guys face? Thats a plus in my book. That stuff happened every week back in the day and was just a part of football. Now it is too violent and not good sportsmanship. He should have received a bonus for every stitch the guy had to get.

Assuming a 50% markup all the Skins need to do is sell 2.9 million of those things and Albert Haynesworth pays for himself! |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
I no longer question the FO's number crunchers. They're the best in the business and in Redskins' land, there is no such thing as salary cap hell. I voted "love the player and the money" because of this.
I look at the moves in context- we picked up the best tackle in football and signed a CB (which our coaches seem to think) is going to step into the top slot. Both have prime years left. We shed Springs and Washington (I'll keep my avatar up for a little while longer, in tribute) who can't stay on the field and are way past their golden years. Why not shake things up in a major way? It's nice to build "the right way", but it's not like we ended the season as an up-and-coming squad full of momentum and youth. The fan base is not patient and our tickets are the highest among professional sports. We expect excellence every season and cannot wait for rebuilding years. Would you rather have Portis run into Albert twice a season or would you rather have the rest of the division's guards have to deal with him? Turnover city... here we come! |

Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Wow, that's a lot of money. I don't really care about the total amount of the contract but 41 million is a sh*t load of money. My take is he'll be great for at least 2 years, good for 2 more, and OK or injured for 1 year. That defense better be a monster and we better win the line of scrimmage every game.

Man Haynesworth is actually a pretty decent speaker. Nothing special but definitely articulate. I wonder how much this press conference is worth in terms of his contract?
Still a little uncertain about how much we'll be able to depend on Haynesworth, but when you think about just from a pure talent level 70% effort and performance out of Haynesworth is probably close to 100% out of Golston.
But this is exactly what Blache wanted, a dominant DT
Will he start allowing QB pursuits without a watch for the run first mentality though on downs that appear to be passing ones? |

He did a good job. Addressed the incident with Gurode right away, and got that over and done with. I think this incident and its aftermath made an impact on him and he knows better. He talked about coming in and making plays, be a disruptive force, and making others around him better. |

He commands double teams on every single snap. When have we had a DT like that?

Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Great move!!!!!!!! My only thing about the money is the concern that some posters brought up with the botched Stubblefield experiment. Will he get lazy quick with all that guaranteed dough? Haynesworth was a great pickup, but is any one player worth that much?
|
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
I think we can get some Fed money to do a "buy out" on the AH deal! I refuse to believe that B. O'Bama cannot get behind some Federal loot to infuse some life in the ....National Defense?
|
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
solid pickup. exactly what most us of here wanted to see picked up. I dont like the question "will he get lazy?" or "will he not play to what hes being paid"... thats what the reporters are asking him and its no good. The guy knows what he has to do already...hopefully... but hell be good.
he will be a force on our D-Line. |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
After his press conference I'm liking this move even more. Not that a press conference always tells you what the real deal is, but he seems really grounded for a guy thats just made a ton of money.
|
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
I just jumped to the last page so i am not influenced by everyone else's post. so here goes...money cant buy everything. I just dont see Haynesworth being that one piece we are sorely missing. Our D was pretty solid as is...I mean to be honest it was the offense who really let us down in the second half of the season. one final thought and i am sure this is cliche by now...Dana Stubblefield. Any other questions????...if so see Dan Wilkinson....
|
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Holy crap! I hope this guy does not end up fizzling in DC.
|
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Horton and Landry are pretty darn good "stickem hard" players. I miss Sean's intensity also, but these two youngsters are playing for keeps. Our D is now pretty solid. Gotta work on the OL line now.

Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
I don't know if anybody has posted this yet (someone probably has, but I am too lazy to look through this huge thread), but the deal is really 4 years/$48 million, which is not bad at all.
League sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that a $29 million "poison pill" in the fifth year of Haynesworth's contract effectively makes it a four-year deal worth $48 million. The Redskins would owe Haynesworth a lump sum of $29 million in salary and bonuses in 2013, the fifth year of the deal. It is unlikely the team will pay the full commitment of $100 million over seven years unless the contract is re-negotiated. Haynesworth will receive $41 million in guaranteed money.
Albert Haynesworth guarantees success with Washington Redskins - 2009 NFL Free Agency - ESPN |
Re: Albert Haynesworth is a Redskin!!!!
Haynesworth's 'real' deal likely four years, $48M
SportingNews.com - ProFootballTalk
Like we've said time and again when it comes to these big-money contracts, the number that gets reported carries a lot of fluff aimed at making the deal look better, presumably to help the agent leverage the transaction into attracting further clients. In the case of the contract signed on Friday by defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth with the Redskins, the headlines regarding a seven-year, $100 million deal with a maximum value of $115 million sound a lot better than something like, say, four years and $48 million. But Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that, in reality, the contract is worth $48 million over four years. In the fifth year of the deal, Haynesworth is due to receive a whopping $29 million in salary and bonuses. And since he'll be 32 when the 2013 season begins, the Redskins likely won't pay those amounts. Still, $41 million of the $48 million is genuinely guaranteed, which is the true significance of the contract. Moving forward, look for a greater percentage of the actual base value of these contracts to represent guaranteed money.
WOW. Just WOW.... i LOVE this deal now that i know this. we get Haynesworth for the best years of his career and will be rid of him when he starts getting old and unproductive. |

You should've seen some of the other posts or some of the previous threads about this topic and see things like... - Dan Wilkinson actually put up some good stats the first 2-3 years he was with the Redskins - In the past, the Redskins have gone after flashy free agents who are past their primes or overpaid for average players - We acquired Dockery, which seems like the beginning of the FO addressing the offensive line - The way that AH's contract is setup, it compensates him the most for the first years of his contract (in reality the deal is like 4 yrs, 48 mil with 41 guaranteed). You're entitled to your opinion, however something that you mentioned have been discussed and I think your opinion may have not be as reactive. Although a lot of people still feel that there's a risk factor, so I give you that. |
