Pretty scary video.

Pretty sure my brother and his wife is on that boat. Im 99% certain its not my brother. He doesnt drink or do dumb stuff. I have my mom about 80% sure it is not my brother from the video but she is not certain.

edit - 100% sure. it says he is from Brazil.

really hope they find him.

very sad and somewhat surprised to hear that the 2 sheriffs have died as a result of the shoot out yesterday up in Abgindon/Aberdeen area.I read yesterday they were both wounded but my impression was they were stable.

it appears the first sheriff tried to be non-confrontational by sitting down with the guy.

it appears someone (the perpertrator's son's mother?) called police to let them know he was there and had warrants.

good internal instinct by the one mother and her daughter who decided to not sit right next to the guy bc he looked sketchy.

i normally make it a point to shake the hands, make eye contact with the dirtiest of homeless people when i give them a buck or food ... but i wont hesitate to move as far away from an erratic person.

Re: The Bad News Thread

Ive been dealing with a dispute at work since last Thursday and Friday. This is easily the maddest Ive every been in my life. It basically revolves around a well perpetuated lie that a couple associates...one in leadership...kinda established over covering their ass on a major underwriting fuck up.

I found the fuck up and took appropriate channels...then I got back an email from someone I work with from a group in Texas. When I read the email that was forwarded from one of the perpetrators here...I almost had a heartache because of the far fetched lie.

Ive been on calls at work over this and even told my boss who is up in Connecticut I contemplated calling our HR folks. Which Ive thankfully never done in my 15 years here.

I just feel betrayed...folks these are your people you work with, not your friends. Tough lesson to learn.

Still being worked out, but the 2 people involved know they are wrong...wont look me in the eye. haven't spoken to me since last week.

That sucks. Ive learned that lesson before. Eff them. When push comes to shove call HR. They are there for a reason.

Re: The Bad News Thread

My Rant for the week...

I am sick and tired for my boss controlling every aspect of my life...

Do to my boss's edict...She has to asked to approve my inclusion in any meetings.

She has to approve before I am asked to do any aspect of my job.

Lastly, because of her edict, and the agreement of HR, I am prohibited from eating lunch, during work hours, with anyone! I am required to eat lunch by myself at my desk

I am really getting sick-and-tired of being Controlled!

Honestly, that is the reason for some of my weird and bad humor...

I am sorry for some of my stupid recent comments, but I have had to deal with some stupid controlling behavior.

Basically, I am unable to do several part of parts of my job without approval of my boss, which is completely uncessary.

And now I am now on a Process Improvement Program...meaning one more screw up and I am terminated.

Soooo...I am required to be veeeerrryyy carefully what I say and do

From here on out, if I am caught saying anything negative about my boss to anyone...I am terminated.

And, of course I am required to do what I am told to do by my boss, and only what I am told to do, and nothing more.

So honestly, I will do what I can do to keep my job for now, since right now the job market, for the skills I have, sux right now, but I am going to to update my resume.

Re: The Bad News Thread

Since we are having a boss rant, I think I'll join.

In the last two months my boss has dumped a massive trial in my lap that had been in litigation for seven years. The attorney assigned left and the attorney supervising had already left. So with no existing institutional knowledge, she assigns a two week federal jury trial to me six weeks before the trial date and denies my request for co-counsel (twice). The opposing side has two attorneys so I would negotiate the major concepts with the partner then hash out the details with the associate while partner moved on to next big issue. I worked insane hours to read thousands of pages of depositions, pleadings, transcripts and documents and then distill all that to prepare pre-trial motions and witnesses testimony. The month of February is a blur during which I barely saw my family and worked almost exclusively on the trial.

One week after the trial, boss assigns a TRO to me on Friday for which a hearing is scheduled the following Thursday. Client screwed crap up so I am running around all week trying to learn the procedures from three different sets of administrative appeals and fix the screw ups before the Thursday hearing. All the while, trying to get the letters and supporting documents, necessary to succeed at the hearing. Judge calls us in three hours ahead of scheduled time to say I win but only if I file certain affidavits within three hours. Spend three frantic hours putting the paper work together and get things done.

After working several 80 hour weeks (and none less than 60) since January 1st, Boss comes in today and says "You have had these three projects since before Christmas, why aren't they done?"

Used to love my job. Got to find something new. I have settled multimillion dollar cases, won trials everyone said I should lose, am the hired gun picking up other people's crap and making it into diamonds, have completely revamped the litigation unit to create system of case tracking and accountability. But I failed to answer questions the client said "Don't need those now; get back to me after your trials," so I suck and will get tanked on my performance review later this week.

Damn guys, hope your luck improves. My previous boss was terrible, a micromanager who always felt he had to look over my shoulder and tell me exactly how to do my job. Luckily he only lasted 6 months because profits plummeted after he took the job. My new boss took over 3 years ago and I enjoy working with him so much I haven't left.

Re: The Bad News Thread

I'll post this in the bad news thread because it's the only current one right now, but it ended up being good news...

Story begins a few months ago. I notice a dull, yet annoying pain in my upper right abdomen. I ignore it, life goes on. One day, we're driving past a MedExpress and I'm like, "Hey, let's just stop to get this checked out." I go in, they talk to me about it, do a urine test and I've got blood/white blood cells and I'm like, "Well fuck, this sucks."

Get set up with a GI who first does an endoscopy and sees some minor stuff, puts me on Prisolec. He schedules an ultrasound and I come to find I have a hemangioma on my liver. As someone who is not shy about my drinking of alcohol, this worried me considerably. Being a worrier, I started falling into a semi-depression. They eventually schedule a CT scan just to confirm there is nothing more. Since I was worrying for weeks, I was convinced it was something more serious. It was literally all I could think about day and night to the point it was effecting my daily life.

CT scan came and went, days go by and eventually I get the call that all is normal.

Definitely might be minor compared to what everyone else might be going through life/health-wise, but I was seriously concerned for months and am currently weaning off a drug (Prilosec) that has it's own set of side effects when you come off it. Today is day three of coming off and imagine being extremely anxious or worried for no reason at all. That's what it's been like. This afternoon it's almost like a switch flipped and I'm starting to feel normal again. Bottom line: I had a lot of tests done to the point where if anything ELSE was going wrong, it would have been caught, so I can say with a good degree of confidence I have a clean bill of health.

Absolutely. It wasn't even a result of drinking. Basically all the tests showed something on my liver that I could have had for years. It DID make me highly curtail my drinking. It's a benign tumor which seems unsettling but there has been 0% chance of this ever turning into cancer. When it's on the outside, it's a birth-mark.

If was extremely painful when I was rushed to the emergency room...but I could never pass it because it was like the size of the "big marble". I was peeing blood and it constantly felt like someone had a lighter to my kidney that morning before the emergency room.

it got broken up with soundwaves during outpatient surgery. I passed the particles of it but by then it was pulverized to like small flakes of dead skin...that took like 2 months. It wasn't very painful that that point, just having the stint in was the bad part.

I have a guy in I.T. here pass one while pissing one morning and he said he was yell and screaming. He passed it and said it resembled a large piece of sand.

Re: The Bad News Thread

I feel like my current problems pale in comparison to the ones listed above, but I need to rant so here goes anyways. Couple weeks ago my desktop at home started having random power surges out of nowhere, after the 6th one (which happened right after I tried to log in) I finally decided to do something about it. Bad choice. Obv the smart move would be diagnosing after the first. I figured since the electricity at home was fine the power supply was just crapping out after 3 years, so I decided to upgrade and replace it. Took it out (Corsair 600 watt) and replaced it with a semi modular Corsair 750 watt. Try to start it up and nothing happens. After having multiple second opinions and seeking help online it seems my motherboard has crapped out, so I have to replace that. Well my old one is 3 years old and my CPU which has the LGA 1155 chipset isn't compatible with the majority of new motherboards which run LGA 1150 or the newer LGA 1151, so now I need to get a new processor to go with it. And most of the new motherboards only support DDR4 instead my old DDR3 ram, so need to get new RAM as well. Now I could go the cheap route on all this because I'm actually in transition between jobs atm and need to save, but I know I would just be postponing the inevitable because I do some amateur photography in my spare time and need a pc that can support the habit. I know this is a first world problem but the timing is terrible.

We started a war in the Middle East. This is the result. Violence feeds violence. We can get some yahoo in office to send another a million Americans to War and that is not going to do a God damn thing to stop these small cells all over the world from springing into action. It just pisses these Assholes off and they plan more sneaky bullshit terrorist attacks. In this case compassion and understanding may be the best avenue. Not towards the terrorists but towards The world in general. Shape future generations with a positive message not a violent one.
If we had some magic bomb we could drop that would somehow blow up terrorists alone Id press the button myself. There is just no easy action to take in this War. But we can certainly always spread a positive message and hope that most of the world is with us.

So if he had been more stern at the podium the dude would have gotten cold feet this morning in France?!? Lol. Come on.
Of course i can blame Bush. It takes years for groups like isis to gain ground. Your seeing what they are capable of now and hopefully its not the tip of the iceberg. This isnt a ground and pound war. This is as much mental as it is physical on a world wide level. We cannot just start bombing cities again. Alot of good that would do. Maybe we should have bombed France?
Do you really think any future potus is going to stop this shit with troops and bombs?!? And than you know what people will blame Obama - oh look at the mess he got us in. He let the terrorists get strong. Blah blah blah. Bush started all this shit. 9 fucking 11 was THEE SINGLE WORST ACT OF TERROR COMMITTED ON AMERICAN SOIL - it hasn't happened again here has it? He is not allowing anything to happen, and I believe the general public thinks there is some easy way to stop it. The President is just the guy (or girl) who gets blamed. It will be someone else next, than someone else, etc etc.
I mean whether you love him or hate him how is the POTUS responsible for France anyway?[/quote]
